Gender: Female
Profession: smuggler/huntress
Appearance:
The silky weaves of her hair fall in two different shades to the top curve of her breasts: the upper layer a dark chocolate compared to the walnut colouring beneath that matches her eyes. These soul portals may lie slightly farther apart than the average norm, but her long, straight nose and lush lips more than just balance out the imperfection. Combined with her strong jaw that is forever raised in self-confidence, her face holds an additional shine that would capture almost anyone's gaze - male or female.Personality:
Standing at 5'4" and weighing an athletic 116 pounds, Adriana would hardly ever be without the comfort of a man if it wasn't for the cold demeanor of her walnut eyes. They spoke of a chained fence with spikes at the top hoarding a nightmare too dangerous to release; they spoke of an area that would forever be off limits to all but her closest allies...that was, if she even had any. But more repelling was the battle against insanity she was slowly losing in an attempt to cover up all the pain she had experienced.
Despite that her body is only marred with two highly distinctive marks - one a six inch long cut along her right side and the other a burn that tore all up her left forearm - Adriana has more scars than stars in the sky and all because of the Celtic tattoo on her left inner wrist. Carved and filled with a special ink on her eleventh birthday, the intricate design is a constant reminder of all the demons she has ever fought and all those yet to come. It is constant reminder that, at the very minimum, she should always carry a saber strapped to the belt loops on her left side and a Bowie clipped to those on her right. It is because of this warrior-like set-up that she will hardly ever be caught in anything other than chaps and boots, regardless of the social norm conforming women's attire.
Her private rebellions against the norms of society show a clear insight into her highly independent personality and a more murky pathway into the battle of psychopathy that she's been fighting since she turned eleven. With each hunt and smuggling ring she brings into operation, she loses the few remaining bits of innocence she has left to an overpowering desire to protect herself from the pain. Despite that she despises the "Werewolves" she is to hunt and completely believes in their mission to end their reign of terror, the constant killing would tear at anyone's soul and Adrianna is no exception. With each ending life flow she is responsible for she becomes more and more like her ruthless mother, and is haunted by the knowledge that if placed into a situation where she either has to save a loved one or keep on the hunt for her prey, she would choose the latter.History:
However, to hide this fear, she portrays a self-confidence that crosses onto the side of arrogance quite frequently. Combined with her headstrong attitude - which is just another word for stubborn - Adriana can very easily come across as cocky, especially when backed into a corner for the more afraid she is, the more confident she seems. This fighter personality was dominant from the very beginning and continues to be so in every aspect of her life, so it comes as no surprise when she gained the reputation of a ruthless businesswoman that should never be crossed. Then again, there is also the story of the one man who tried...only to die from "natural causes" three years later.
Clearly she can hold grudges, which is totally transparent to anyone who has ever seen her on a hunt. The way she is focused solely on her prey is hardly healthy and quite uncanny to those watching, though they are quite thankful that her attention is elsewhere. To her, the ends forgive the means and it is better to incapacitate her prey before questions. However, despite this seemingly cruel logic, to those that know where to look they can still find a beating heart.
Born into the matriarchal society of the Arridi people to a headstrong mother, Adriana's path through life was set in stone as soon as she breathed her first breath of life. Regardless that she was the second child of Jocquen Wolfsbane, she still experienced the full pressure of being a first-born daughter and so on her eleventh yearly cycle, her "present" was a rigorous training regime that would continue on for the next nine years, or until she could continue the family tradition of hunting down "Werewolves" on her own.Additional Information:
Even though it was custom for one's mother to train her in the deadly arts of combat and other helpful techniques such as tracking and bribery, Jocquen's still very active status caused this role to occasionally fall on another clan member.
However, to keep Adriana from being influenced by someone else's teaching style, she forbade any of these stranger instructors to take up the mantle more than twice, though that did not stop her daughter from forming a strong bond with Akiteira Chengfen.
Despite that she could be just as ruthlessly demanding as her mother, Chengfen had a playful attitude that Adriana had never before witnessed. So awed was she that a full-fledged huntress could still partake in innocent banter when on the job, she failed to notice her misuse of the word "innocent" - that was, until she met her daughter, Gōngjiàn shǒu "Yin" Chengfen, four years later. However, despite this shocking blow their relationship did not falter in the least with Adriana continuing to seek her out for advice, and on one rare occasion, for comfort.
Regardless of this close bond though, Adriana followed in the footsteps of her mother with her more serious nature, complete focus when tracking her prey, and ruthless determination. Regardless of the long days, short nights, and brutal beatings in the form of "instruction," Adriana did not come to fear or even hate her mother, but to deeply respect her. When she was sliced open by her mother's blade deep enough to put her out of commission for a few weeks, she simply scolded herself for not keeping her side protected or moving fast enough. When she was told to stay rested for four weeks, she fought to make it three. When her mother stubbornly refused, she practiced solo with Jocquen watching unknowingly from the shadows.
With the same stubbornness that was seemingly inherited, it came as no surprise when she was deemed worthy enough to hunt alone roughly a year sooner than most. Then again, her first kill was the accidental death of an innocent, wrecking a huge blow to her self esteem in the form of survivor guilt and pushing her harder than her fellow men.
However, despite these "blessings" she was not born into a family of money and for the last seven years she has been forced to run a smuggling business to finance her hunts. She mostly deals in high tariff goods, such as tea and satin, but on the occasional dire circumstance she has been known to transport humans, animals, and other illegal merchandise. It was on one of these such occasions that she gained the burn marks on her left forearm when a buyer got the idea of getting both the goods and keeping his money - by taking out the seller. Having been informed of her fighting prowess, however, he decided to stick to the smart idea of simply dousing her in fire. He wasn't too smart though considering they were making the trade on the docks...
Adriana had thrown up her dominant arm to protect herself from what she believed was an acid-based liquid, only to find herself without pain. However, before she could completely register the "sudden change of events" flames were licking hungrily across her arm. She swung her blazing limb toward the slime-ball before launching herself off the docks, currently content with his yelp of pain. She took her time in the water, making sure the oil was good and gone before rising from its depths - knowing that he had already fled the scene. She knew what he looked like and now there was nothing he could do to keep hidden. His time would come. And it did.
From there on her reputation had exploded like fire through the underground dealings of smugglers for it had been three years since that ordeal - three long years for the man and everyone else to believe she was no longer a threat. From there on no one dared to undermine her dealings again, especially when she gained Gōngjiàn shǒu "Yin" for a partner. For despite her seemingly jolly nature and quick to tease attitude, Adriana had heard her friend be used as a "monster under the bed" by many the scolding mothers.
Posts she's in:
- Araluen :: Northern Fiefs :: Norgate :: Highland Ice Serpent
Other favoured places for a hidden blade: sheathed knives in each boot on their outer sides, 5 piece set of throwing knives sheathed upside down on a bandage worn underneath her shirt; upright Bowie resting sheathed between her shoulder blades
Desert horse named Amaranth - tan with white mark on head
She favors knives despite that she is equally skilled with her saber and other lightweight swords; "master" of aikido/other similar martial arts; can usually hit the overall target with a bow, but definitely not a strong suit of hers
"Werewolf" = nothing like the legendary shapeshifters, but rather members of a sadistic underground cult
Family: Too young to remember her biological father and her mother doesn't talk about him, but she knew it was an actual love match. Four years later she remarried and he's been with them ever since. Mother: alive; father dead, but have step; very few males born into their family (only one in the last three generations); women aren't given an option to undergo training - they're forced to. One other sister. One brother (27 and married with two kids - both female; currently toddlers 3 and 4 - married young because half wanted to get away from their lifestyle; not uncommon in this family so relationship is not strained outside of his inability to understand); strong family ties, but able to leave behind to die for the mission.
