 Arvid Firenze
« Thread Started on Oct 30, 2009, 12:24pm »

Age: 29
Gender: Male
Profession: Ranger
Appearance:
Taller than most other Rangers, but still short compared to the average man, with dark tanned skin and a dark stubble. He has dark, close-cropped hair and a small scar on the corner of his mouth. He's well-muscled, and hardly ever smiles. His voice is deep and quiet, yet you don't really have to strain to hear him. When he wants you to hear, you will hear.

He rarely takes off his Ranger cloak, preferring to blend into the background and remain anonymous. His cowl hides most of his face, but he's actually quite handsome. Underneath his cloak, he wears a gray shirt, brown pants and black boots. Other than his silver oakleaf, he wears no adornments.
Personality:
Being a Ranger has made his personality go through some changes. When he first entered the Corps, his mentor had a challenge in that Arvid had a very brash, violent personality. He was self-centered, impatient, demanding, overconfident and egotistical, though his talents convinced the Ranger to give the boy the benefit of the doubt and teach him.

Years of harsh training have, quite literally, beat the previous personality out of his system. Now, he's calm, humble, driven, and considerably more focused. He's also kinder, though that's hidden by a grim, anonymous front that he puts on, more for tradition than anything else.
History:
His mother and father died when he was young, and he became a ward of a coastal fief. His temperament was shaped by his skills as a Ranger, which manifested early in his life. He used his skills to bully and tease the other wards, and the Ranger of the fief was initially reluctant to recruit the young man. However, the Ranger eventually decided that he would train the boy's egotistical personality out of him, and took the boy as his apprentice.

While the situation was rocky at first, the boy soon grew out of his less lovable personality traits, and learned patience and of being humble. He eventually apologized to his bullying victims, who eventually forgave him, and became a talented Ranger in his own right. Now, as the Ranger of Seacliff, he lives alone, content to do so, in a sleepy, calm fief, occasionally reminding the Baron to watch the seas.
Additional Information:
He excels at blending and silent movement. His use of throwing knives and daggers is excellent, though his archery needs work, probably as a result of his reliance on his daggers, something his ex-mentor berates him about whenever he gets the chance.

Other than being a Ranger, his life consists of little else; the poor guy. He has no other habits or hobbies. His horse, Kali, comes from the desert region, and other than her, he really has no outside friendships. Maybe he needs an apprentice... XD

Nothing like a near-death experience to make you... Not like death very much.

You smell great; is that death you're wearing? It really suits you.

It all looks good except the line where you state "His use of throwing knives and daggers is unsurpassed, though his archery needs work,"

I would prefer to see the word "unsurpassed" replaced with "exceptional" or something like that.

The way you have it written implies that he is better at it than everyone / anyone else. Nothing wrong with being very skilled in an area as long as it is not in every area and as long as you don't claim to be "the best".

So, if you wouldn't mind making that minor change, I think we can then approve him.

I like the fact he has some personality issues to overcome - or has overcome. Always makes roleplaying more fun (some of us others can "push his buttons" heh heh). Good character!

I was worried about that. I hesitated with the 'unsurpassed' thing. XD Knew I should have chosen something else. It wasn't my intention, but it accidentally turned out that way, I guess. Consider it done.

Oh, if you push him, he will get angry. His temper is ingrained in him forever. XD People who act like he used to act make him incredibly angry, which is a bit hypocritical...

thanks for making the change!

(oh, and that is the whole point of pushing his buttons - heh heh. Shanna loves to push other ranger's buttons. Grin!)
