" Well, I like most people am doing what ever the hell I want to. Not that it is any business of yours, but I am gathering a few herbs I ran out of."
Nissa frowned. Gathering herbs? Really? Was this some kind of joke? She had never heard of any ranger gathering herbs before.
"Herbs for what?" she demanded.
The two other men in the cave moved to block off the mans escape keeping a watchful eye on the wolf in case he sent it on them. Or if it attacked them at will, either way they were ready for both man or beast. The rain still fell steadily outside, Nissa took a step toward him. "What are you really doing in the woods ranger?"

Well, it seems I better do something before they box Lupe and me in. I really don’t want to soil this place with anymore corpses, Justin thought as the men moved to cut off his escape. As the young bandit that had recently shared a meal with him asked her question he moved to stand to answer her question causing his very unwelcome new camp mates to shuffle their weapons nervously. “Don’t try any of yer funny Ranger business. We kin kill you dead before yer kin blink”, one of the men said while sounding none too confident in his claims. Justin looked at the man with his eyebrows raised and a slightly hurt expression on his face as he rose and moved toward the bowl of stew he said “Surely you don’t mean me? You have me outnumbered and my bow is still in its case on my back. I am just getting some more food while I answer the young lady’s question.”
As bent down to ladle more of the steaming hot stew into the bowl he turned his head toward Mouse “ Herbs are pretty useful things, young miss. They can be used to flavor stew or heal wounds or disease and many oth-‘ . “We aren’t interested in yer speech on plants, Ranger”, one of the Bandits spat clearly not believing that the Ranger was here just to simply gather herbs. Justin sighed loudly before saying in a slightly despondent tone “ I really hate to waste such a good stew. Oh, well.” The bandit who was blocking Justin’s exit looked at the Ranger with a raised “ What is tha-“ , he began before being rudely interrupted by a face full of still bowling stew. As the man fell screaming to the floor clawing at his face, Justin moved quicker than moved would think possible kicking the remainder of the stew into the fire, which turned the cave into a confusing jumble of black and smoke. Justin then threw his body weight against the last bandit barring his way to the exit. As his weight crashed into the man Justin pivoted so that as the man stumbled backwards he was sent head first into the rock wall, knocking him senseless. Then faster than the lightning that still flashed outside Justin gave a low wispier to Lupe and both of them were off into the rain soaked night.

Nissa realized a little to late what the ranger had in mind. She cursed and quickly gathered her things but not before smoke started filling up the cave. She shouldered her quiver and grabbed her cloak that at least was a little more dry she started coughing at the smoke. "Sorry Tick you are on your own!" she slipped out of the cave as the bandits coughed and tried to get out while getting the injured bandit out. She ran through the trees hoping that she was going in the opposite direction of the ranger. She ad no desire to run into him again, in fact if she never ran into him she would be happy. He now knew her name, her face, her trade mark of red arrows, and that she was a wanted criminal. She really hoped that she didn't run into him. Within minutes of escaping the cave she was soaked again she sighed, would this rain ever let up? Her arrows thudded nosily together on her back and her cloak was getting heavy on her arm. She stopped panting heavily looking around her. She cursed again, she had run off in the wrong direction of her camp. She turned in the right direction and started trotting toward it.

As she walked a sudden thought struck her. Perhaps maybe this was her chance to have a little fun. She stopped and searched the woods trying to think of which direction the ranger had gone. Of course stalking him would be near impossible but she had been dodging rangers for years, perhaps she could do a little stalking of her own. Who knew? Maybe she'd get lucky, if he knew no one was following him he might not act stealthy, and this rain would help mask any undue noise she made. throwing her cloak around her shoulders and flicking up the hood she blended in the twilight shadows perfectly. And then the Mouse decided to chase the Cat.

Well, that turned into a more interesting stroll than I had originally planned, Justin though as he and Lupe lopped easily though the rain soaked woodland. The steady pounding of the rain on the ground slowly dwindled to a steady drizzle. As the sound of the rain decreased some sounds that had been hidden previously by it put Justin’s keen senses on edge. The slight sound of rustling in the foliage to Justin and Lupes back could have just been the leaves rustling in the wind or it could be fabric as it brushed against the tangled brambles and ever reaching fingers of the surrounding forest. The Rangers did not train men to throw caution to the wind and hope for the best outcome, so Justin waited for a bend in the trail that would hide both him and Lupe from any pursuers and then with a small hand signal he sent his companion left and then he moved to the right circling behind his back trail to catch any pursuers from the side or rear.

Nissa noticed that he had stopped and she ducked behind a tree, she pulled out her bow and silently strung it and pulled out an arrow. She fixed the feathers so that it would fly straight and still using the tree as a shield shot a little before the ranger her arrow burying itself in the ground a little ways in front of him. Seconds later another one landed behind him, she stealthily moved to another tree and shot again this time climbing it so that the wolf wouldn't tear her to shreds she saw him now he had caught her scent it was only a matter of time before he knew which tree. She cursed well this wasn't quite the way she had planned it she had completely forgotten about his pet, most rangers only had a pet horse not pet wolves. She put another arrow on the string but didn't draw back she would kill the wolf it made any attempt to get her she wasn't that high up. If the wolf jumped it could probably bite her dangling feet off. And she rather liked her feet attached to her.
