ooc: These guys aren't the smartest of the bunch...
The bandit looked up, "Did ya hear that?" he asked his companion, "Aye..sounded like horses. Lets go." he muttered, heading back down the trail that they came from. He was so done with this all, "Prob that frightened courier." he said laughing. His friend laughed along to, "Did you see her face, crying sobbing girl." he said "Please...sirs." he mimicked Ryills small voice. "Pathetic if you ask me."
Rounding the bend, he froze as he saw the knights heading his way, his eyes went wide. "(I suppose we can't swear right? so in that case use your imagination here.)...!!! RUN JARGLE" he shouted at his companion and both raced back down the trail.

Emily smiled slightly when she heard the sound of horses. And then frowned again when her two captives picked up the pace. She put both of her legs on one side of the horse they had her one and started to drag her feet, making a line for whoever was behind them to follow. She felt something shove her, and she fell off the horse, tumbling slightly and possibly breaking bones in the process. When she finally stopped moving, she groaned quietly. She hoped that the people behind her noticed her.

Katrina was in the lead and saw the two bandits come around the corner in the trail some distance ahead of them. "and there they are," she said calmly, but loud enough for those following to hear her. She urged Ace into a canter, leaning forward and pointed her crossbow bolt at one of the figures.
His eyes went wide. "*&^%$...!!! RUN JARGLE" he shouted at his companion and both raced back down the trail.
They disappeared back around the curve in the trail and Katrina nearly cursed right back at them. She hadn't had time for a precise shot and she didn't want to kill them. They might not find Emily if they killed these two. "Let's follow them, maybe they'll lead us right to Emily," Katrina suggested to her companions.
She urged Ace faster, as fast as the slightly overgrown trail would allow. Up ahead somewhere she thought she heard a thud which was followed by a moan, but it was hard to tell over the sound of Ace's hoofbeats.

"Let's follow them, maybe they'll lead us right to Emily," Katrina suggested to her companions.
Skylar nodded and urged her horse Lucky faster. She hoped they found Emily when they did she would do this world a favor and rid it of the these foul hearted bandits. Her sword flashed here and there as it caught the afternoon sun that streamed through the gap in the leaves of the trees. Her jaw was set her eyebrows drawn slightly. Quite frankly when she had that look her mother often said she pitied the person she was going after. It was the look at said I will show you now mercy. The look had set many a grown man on edge even sent a young teenager bandit running for the hills. She was determined and when Skylar Westington was determined absolutely nothing got in her way.

The one called Jargle looked at his companion, "We needa warn the others!" he said, turning around he didnt notice as he tripped right over Emily who was laying in the middle of the path. Jargle went flying and landed in a heap on the ground. "Dang, where are the others!?" he said scrabbling up, looking at the Ranger on the ground and then looking for the other two bandits. "I don't know Jargle, but come on help me carry her!" he snapped and proceeded to the ranger, intending to throw her over his shoulder and take off, "I'll take her and you keep them knights at bay!" he snapped.

Skylar hadn't hesitated at all , she urged Lucky into a trot then proceeded to go off the trail, the other didn't really notice they were a little busy making sure that they didn't lose sight of the two bandits. Skylar smiled grimly her hunch had been right, she had taken a brief short cut as the bandit reached for Emily She swung off Luck yin one smooth movement and before he could lay a hand on her, her sword tip was at his throat. "I really wouldn't if I were you." Lucky snorted as if to agree that the bandit shouldn't move unless he wanted to die. The horse eyed that man ready to give aid to his mistress should the need arise. Skylars face was determined and grim not she exuded the air of someone you really didn't want to mess with unless you had a death wish. She kept her other eye on the second bandit although she doubted he would get very far as the other knights were practically there already.

Emily tensed as she heard Skylar's voice, thinking that there were more bandits. Her whole body hurt at this point, and she couldn't move her legs without pain shooting through her body. She cried out in pain and immediately wished she hadn't. Her voice sound raspy and her head hurt. "Help?" She asked, her voice raspy, and barely a whisper. "Please?"

Katrina was in the lead but noticed Skylar veer off and figured out her intent quickly. "Tend to the ranger, Sir Rodney, and I'll get these scum." she said to the older knight riding next to her. She urged Ace faster, right up behind the bandit who had stumbled over Emily. She turned her sword around in her hand in a flash and knocked the bandit sprawling on the ground again, completely unconcious this time with the blow her pommel had made to the back side of his head.
She went past Emily and Skylar and stopped a few feet beyond to listen and check the ground quickly, looking for signs of the other's passing. Seeing that Emily was seriously hurt, she turned back to the others. "I think I see which way they headed," she said to the Baron and other knights. "But she looks like she is going to need some bones set right away and should be taken back to the castle. Should we pursue them now? We have two of them for questioning and we can probably find the others once we get the Ranger taken care of."

The other bandit looked at his fallen comrade and then fled, he ran for all what he was worth, no way was he gonna get caught. He stumbled through the forest, then yelped as he slipped down a bank, tumbling head over heels and landed in a splash in the water. He groaned slightly and staggered to his feet, no way is he gonna get caught, and continued half stagering through the forest.
ooc: sorry for the lateness, been out of town.

Without hesitation Skylar jumped up on lucky and set off after him. Bandit's it seemed were stupid no matter where you were. Didn't the man know that he couldn't out run a horse? She easily caught up to him, she splashed after him, when she was close enough she stuck out her foot and kicked him in the back sending him sprawling then she jumped down and grabbed him by the scruff of his neck and using all her considerable strength slung him over her horse mounting behind him. For good measure she knocked him unconscious with the hilt of her sword just as Sir Katrina had. She trotted lucky back to the group the bandit slung over her horse her sword laying across his back, she wasn't all that ready to put it away yet you never knew what one might encounter in the woods. Bandits usually traveled in packs.

Katrina slipped down off Ace and pulled some rope out of her pack. She tied up the bandits and told Ace to guard them. Her warhorse eyed the men, alert to any movement from them.
Katrina then knelt down next to Emily and Sir Rodney to see what she could do to help.
"I think we should splint her legs to get her back to the castle," said Sir Rodney. "We'll need to make a litter too. No way is she riding out of here on a horse."
Katrina nodded. "I'll start stripping some saplings. There's bandages in my pack we can use to tie the splints in place." She stood back up and searched the trees around them, looking for straight saplings with strength enough to keep Emily's legs from moving.
Quickly she found four that should do the trick. She cut them down and stripped the branches and nubs off them with her belt knife and handed them to Sir Rodney. Then she set about making a litter from two small trees and her bedroll. All the while she kept one eye on the bandits they'd captured and one eye to the surrounding woods in case their friends showed up.
"We should get out of here as soon as possible and come back with a much larger force. I suspect there are quite a few more bandits out here than these guys," she suggested to the Baron.

Emily grimaced as Rodney put the stilt on her leg. Her fists were clenched and she tried to smile. "I know what I'm never doing again. Falling off of horses." She said. Rodney shook his head and looked up at Katrina. "You know?" Emily said, rolling her eyes. "Pauline's gonna kill me..."

Ryills gazed out of the window, looking down at the courtyard, waiting for the knights to return. She has finally calmed down and now just felt sore and exhausted. Still lingering in the back I her mind was the way she acted ealier today. Ryills squeezed her eyes shut, "great first day..." She muttered, "what more can go wrong?!" she sat on the ground and hugged her legs let's with her goodarm, her eyes didn't leave the front gates. She'll make it up somehow to Emily, somehow.
the bandits grumbled as the trudged along behind the horses, "it was stupid idea." Jangle muttered to his partner, "a ranger, we took on a ranger." His partner rolled his eyes, "well I wasn't the one who let the courier go." Jargle spit at him, "she wasn't important, it was easy pickings...so you said." they fell in to silence.

Skylar smirked. "You really thought you would get away with attacking a ranger AND a courier? You do realize that they are officials right? Did you honestly think that there wouldn't be harsh consequences to your actions?" She looked over at Emily and a little thread of worry worked itself into a knot in her stomach. She smiled down at Emily.
"I know what I'm never doing again. Falling off of horses." She said. Rodney shook his head and looked up at Katrina. "You know?" Emily said, rolling her eyes. "Pauline's gonna kill me..."
"It'll be ok Emily. Besides the only thing you need to worry about is getting better. Pauline won't do anything to you it was hardly your fault."
Then she went back over to the Bandits keeping a safe distance away from them she crouched down so she could be at eye level with them. Her face was hard. "What did you mean 'it was easy pickings?'" what could you possibly gain by attacking these two? Their Apprentices. Not only that but no one would ransom them its against the rules of their respective work. Who told you to do it?"

Katrina prodded them with the tip of her lance as she followed along behind them on Ace, "Oh don't stop talking now."
Skylar smirked. "You really thought you would get away with attacking a ranger AND a courier? You do realize that they are officials right? Did you honestly think that there wouldn't be harsh consequences to your actions?"
Katrina had a hard time believing these guys were really as stupid as they appeared. "They have to be working with someone, or maybe there is a bounty out for couriers and rangers and they really are stupid enough to think they can get away with it," she mused quietly.
"These bandits are getting bolder around here, especially since Halt has been away these last few weeks," Baron Arald said. "Something needs to be done about them."
"From what I hear, the problem is not only in Redgate," Katrina answered. "We have been rousting them out of Norgate for months and it seems like for every one we kill or capture, three more show up in their places. Now with the plague causing the food shortage, there are also normally honest folks who have taken to thievery just to feed their families." Katrina shook her head, watching the bandits. These two didn't look they fit into the honest folk category. She'd bet they were career criminals. "Marshwood and Caraway are the same, but I didn't think it was this bad as you got out of the northern most fiefs."
Katrina studied Emily as she was being dragged along behind Sir Rodney's warhorse on the litter, her own ranger horse trailing after. It was odd, the two men they had caught had nearly gotten away with capturing and almost killing a ranger. There had to be more bandits lurking in the woods around them.
Katrina overheard Skylar ask the bandits, "What did you mean 'it was easy pickings?'" what could you possibly gain by attacking these two? Their Apprentices. Not only that but no one would ransom them its against the rules of their respective work. Who told you to do it?" Emily wasn't an apprentice, but that made it all the more mysterious. Katrina wanted the answers to those questions too.
"I think you better answer the Lady," she poked Jargle with the tip of her lance in his rump. "Who are you working for and what do you think you were going to gain by attacking a ranger?" she asked grimly. She didn't say it a loud voice, but she could be quite intimidating when she got quiet and seemed to look right down into their souls with her startling icy blue-gray eyes. She had spent years perfecting the look and played it on the men now as she threatened to poke them again with her lance.
