The current game time is the year 666 (being the year 2020 in real-time). Treasure maps have begun to circulate in the kingdom... By October Desperation is a growing boomtown...
GAME PLOTS of the past:
The Healing Years: The time is February in the year 665 (2019). It has been 8 years since the Plague, known as the White Death or Wargal Fever. Most of the land has healed from the plague. Although the population in Norgate fief is still low and it is struggling to revive its economy, in the rest of Araluen People are thriving, growing crops and trading all across the country. Relations have been good for the last three years between Araluen and its neighbors. There are the usual bad elements, bandits and outlaws, domestic disputes, and crime in some of the larger cities. None of it seems to be out of the ordinary... at least on the surface... (You may post any time from Year 665 back through the lifetime of your character. Please indicate the year in an OCC post at the beginning of your first post on a new thread, along with the fief it takes place in.)
White Death years: The time is February in the year 659 (2013). The winter has been a hard one throughout the Kingdom, but especially in the north where so many died and very little food was planted, harvested or set aside for the winter. Norgate is nearly a wasteland with only a few pockets of people scattered here and there. Wild animals roam at will and most of the population is holed up in Macindaw and Castle Norgate. The southern fiefs are facing overcrowding and the plague still lingers in some places. Food is scarce all over and trade in Araluen and between it and other countries is almost non-existant. Many have turned to thieving to survive. Many have been hired by the Barons of the fiefs to patrol the cities to stop the theiving. They most often work only for one meal a day and a warm bed. {"All for a bag of Sugar" is the current thread}
The last flurry of activity in game time is the late spring of the year 658 (being May 2012). Stormcrow, Lupis Sails into Drayden, Plague Guards of Marshwood and Roubona's Revenge are the current threads.
The whole kingdom is in terrible shape. There was great famine in the north and food prices are high. Thousands died during the past summer of the plague but it slacked off during the winter months and some few that fled the northern fiefs are trying to return only to find the way barred by bandits. Rangers and Diplomats seem to be running into a lot more trouble than normal in their daily routines of travel around and between the fiefs all over the Kingdom.
No one has crossed the Scotti border and returned in months. Many are fleeing Araluen for oversees and the price for passage aboard ships has skyrocketed.
There are rumors and some evidence that the Scotti plan to invade as soon as the mountains are passable. The entire Kingdom of Araluen is being overrun with outlaws, thieves, famine and pestulance. Things are not looking good and the rangers have more trouble than they can handle.
...
We just came from winter 658 game time at the beginning of the sled dog race known as the Highland Ice Serpant taking place in Dec 657 through Jan 658. Racers will try to rediscover the ancient dog sled trail that ran from Norgate Castle to Marshwood Bay all along the edge of the mountains and border with Picta. Deep snow has the normal roads in and out of Norgate blocked for all but the hardiest of travellers on foot or on a large, sturdy horse. Trying to take carts loaded with supplies through these roads is impossible until the spring thaw. Even so people are still attempting to leave the northern fiefs to escape the plague and carrying it with them to the central and southern fiefs., although not in the droves that were evacuating through the fall before the snows came.
Those hardy soles attempting to transport the wool via the Highland Ice Serpant will face harsh weather and terrain as well as attempted raids by bandits. Their movements are appearing to be tracked by some criminal element that seems to be bent on the destruction of Araluen.
December and January (657 into 658, being 2011-2012 Gregorian) will see Halt's Playground embroiled in attacks from pirates and thieves and other dark forces that have taken advantage of the plague that is gripping the land, particularly in the Northern fiefs. The great dog sled race called the Highland Ice Serpant will be held to boost morale as well as the northern fief's economies by providing a means to get the Norgate Wool to Marshwood Bay Market for sale and distribution throughout the Kingdom and overseas. The economy is in shambles after the recent ravages by Wargals, constant Scotti rebels raids and pirates attacks on rivers and seaports all up and down the coasts. Ashton Thornbury is plotting with Baron Rathbone to free his sisters from his deranged brother-in-law and reduce his father to a poverty stricken puddle of snivelling tripe. Ringulf has his hands full with river pirates in Marshwood and Norgate is being over run with Wargals and Scotti rebels.
In the south the villages are being devastated by what is reported as man-beasts that have been driven out of Celtica by something as yet undiscovered. Relations between Araluen and Picta have come to a total halt and there is speculation of a war between the two countries. Relations with Celtica are becoming strained as well. Bandits are emboldened by the internal strife and the country is still trying to recover from the year of the Aslavian war when crops were not planted or harvested. Food is scarce and expensive and especially in the northern fiefs. The rural farming communities in the south are finding themselves well-off financially for the first time in a very long time. Life on the streets in the bigger cities is harder than ever and the rangers have likely never been busier during the reign of King Duncan.
The Gathering in the late summer, early fall of the year 657 has ended (Nov 2011). This took place about 10 months after the Harvest Faire in Whitby. (The Gathering is only three days of game time taking place at the very end of August. In real time it ran from July through the end of November 2011 - being the year 657 in game.)
In the fall of 656 (2010) The game time plot was The Harvest Faire in Whitby which was the last week of October in the Year 656. This is just about one year after the War in Gallica against the Aslavian's began. The war ended a few months earlier during the summer of 656.This event in this game is about five years after Will becomes a full ranger (or five years after the time of the 5th book; The Sorcerer of the North)
From the summer of 655 (2009) through the fall, winter, spring of 656 and into the late summer of 656 (2010) was the War in Gallica against the Aslavians.
