"If you should happen to be caught act like you are crazy," he suggested. "I can't guarantee it will help, but most primitive cultures respect madness and leave the poor unfortunate one alone. He couldn't guarantee it would help Roath, but he figured it wouldn't hurt.
"Heh! Well it seems to have worked for you this long! I might as well give it a try!" Roath said with a dry smirk as he loosened his sword sheath and re adjusted his waggle womper in the back of his belt.
Timothy would keep an eye on him and try to stay quiet so the Wargals, or whomever was out there, couldn't hear him unless Roath hollared for help. He only hoped Roath wouldn't venture out in the midst of what Timothy suspected might be an army.
Roath quietly slid out from under cover around the corner and stayed very low, he peered out to see a group of six figures, two of which stood tall and strait and the rest were most definitely not human.
He stayed in the shadows and crept toward the opening of the tunnel. It seemed as though there was a changing of the posted Wargal guard and the two humans were going off with the two relieved wargals back down out of the tunnel to the east. Past the two sentries Roath could see the floor at the mouth of the tunnel sloped down and there was bright daylight and open space out beyond the mouth.
One Wargal looked out toward the opening and seemed to be looking down over some vast expanse with his back to Roath. The other leaned his back against the wall just inside the cave mouth and propped himself up with his spear. He looked rather drowsy and was seeming like he was going to take advantage of the fact that he was out of sight of his superiors and his companion was on guard.
Roath waited a bit and then when saw the creatures head droop he crept closer to the mouth behind the outer guards position.
Down on all fours and with his body in a supine position Roath peered out between the bandy legs of the large furry creature. It was all he could do to keep from gagging at the stench that came off the parts of the beast closest to him.
As he got the angle he was able to see down the long path to what looked like a large bowl or sunken plateau. rimmed by high mountain walls, dotted with little openings all around. one of which he now was looking out of.
As his eyes focused he saw that the majority of the bowl's floor was carpeted with dark moving figures, then as they came better into view he realized he was looking at a carpet of humanity. There were thousands of people down there in a tent and shanty town of sorts but this camp had guards all over and fences of wire and slats of wood...they were refugees...no...they were prisoners!

It hadn't been a particularly good day from the start, Harken was effectively escorting refugees from Marshwood as they traveled to the docks. Many were sad and crying or had a blank stare on their faces. Still hope was on the horizon, literally. If they could get to the boats and get away from the plague all of their lives would be better. As they approached the docks and started boarding Harken felt that something was off. He couldn't put his finger on it but something was definitely wrong. Once all the refugees were aboard the ship they started making ready to set sail. Not feeling good about the situation he also boarded. He got Charger settled in and made for the fighting top. While heading back on deck he passed a couple sailors again something was off. Then it slowly dawned on him, they weren't simple sailors they were too rugged and were desperate to not show their faces. It was too late though the ship started moving. All the refugees had been captured.
"You there Knight! Have off with your weapons and armor then there won't be problems with the other folks," a gruff voice said to Harken. He turned to find four of these "sailors" with weapons out and ready to carve him up. He did as they asked and relinquished his gear. "Where are you taking these people?" he asked the one that looked in charge. "Not your concern Knight," as the one with the gruff voiced one threw his head to the side in a gesture. Harken was promptly whacked in the back of his head causing him to drop like a sack of potatoes.
When he woke he was in some sort of shanty town holding area. The only light came from torches that were placed all around, it was oddly dark in the area and Harken couldn't tell the time of day. His hands were bound behind his back. He could see his equipment in a crate nearby. Little he could do to get to it though, there were at least six guards around what looked to be a weapons cache. As he looked around he could hear horses not too far away. 'Charger must be there. I wonder what they want with so many people? Where are we anyway?' he thought in rapid succession. Not much he could do with his hands literally tied but he had to get out of here and warn someone, he couldn't take them all on. Crazy as he was there were far more than even he could think to handle. Harken decided to wait for an opportunity to present itself.

An old man and a boy walked up to Harken. they carried some soup that was the color of mud and had some greasy chunks of some unrecognizable meat in it along with a few greyish green plantlike bits. The boy took out a wooden spoon and the old man held the iron pot as the boy started to feed Harken spoon fulls of the distasteful sludge.
"Sorry Sir," The old man started, "I knows this aint very pleasin fare but it is all me old wife can do with what they gives her and what we can catch. They took all the women folk 'cept the old ones so we are hard pressed for thems that can actually make a meal at all! Since we came here though, all the rest of us have either died of the sickness or been healed by that nasty tonic they be givin to us, they calls it the antidote!, I am not so sure"
The guards came down past the prisoners, "Hey you over there, feed 'im, was all you was told, you don't have to tell 'im yer life story! You an the whelp get back to the shack now or you'll be tastin my whip!" The swarthy Easterner sneered as he passed knowing that they would comply.
"My Grandson and I will come back in the morning, hang on, and don't loose hope, there are too many to fight and even if you got loose it is near impossible to get out of this crator or off the plataue. We need your strength so don't waste yourself foolishly!" And with that they were gone back into the rabble of humanity that was the consentration camp.

Timothy inched closer to the opening of the cave so he could keep Roath in sight. He kept one hand on his sheathed sword so it wouldn't accidently scrape along the rocky floor or wall and give him away. His dark clothing helped him to blend into the gaping darkness of the cave behind him, so as long as he didn't make a sound he should be able to avoid detection by the now sleeping guard.
He saw Roath lying between the legs of a Wargal and clenched his teeth at the risk the lad was taking. He stopped inching forward and leaned into the wall, trying to make himself look like a rock jutting out from the cave wall. It was a bit lighter here due to the light from the mouth of the cave, but he was still back far enough in the shadows that one would need very keen eyesight to spot him. He just hoped there was no breeze to carry his scent down tot he Wargals.
All he could do at the moment was wait for Roath to come back with a report on what was beyond the cave, or attack if either of them were discovered.

The boy took out a wooden spoon and the old man held the iron pot as the boy started to feed Harken spoon fulls of the distasteful sludge.
Harken ate spoonful after spoonful of the foul stew. The greens were rotten and the meat, if it could be called that, was more like left over grizzle. Still he ate, he would need his strength.
"Sorry Sir," The old man started, "I knows this ain't very pleasin' fare but it is all me old wife can do with what they gives her and what we can catch. They took all the women folk 'cept the old ones so we are hard pressed for thems that can actually make a meal at all! Since we came here though, all the rest of us have either died of the sickness or been healed by that nasty tonic they be givin' to us, they calls it the antidote!, I am not so sure."
"No worries at all kind sir. Please tell me more when you can," he said between bites of his 'meal' of the day.
The guards came down past the prisoners, "Hey you over there, feed 'im, was all you was told, you don't have to tell 'im yer life story! You an the whelp get back to the shack now or you'll be tastin my whip!" The swarthy Easterner sneered as he passed knowing that they would comply.
Harken simply glared at the guards as they passed. The old man and boy ran off and so did the guards for the guards knew better than to test Harken. Even tied up Harken was still imposing. He wondered what they were taking the women for as he idly crewed on his last piece of grizzle.

Timothy silently laid a pheasant fletched bolt in the groove of his crossbow and pulled the string back until it clicked in place. Then he drew his long dagger from the sheath at his waist next to his sword. Every so slowly he inched forward along the cave wall into a posistion where he could slit the throat of the wargal Roath was crouching under and shoot the other, hopefully before either had time to raise an alarm.
As he neared the cave opening he could just barely see some dark dots on the upward curve of the natural bowl shaped valley below. He refrained from looking, however, intent on his quarry and not making a noise.

From his vantage point below the guard Roath could see the better part of the bowl like crater. These were refugees alright he could see many of them and they looked no different then the masses waiting in Marshport for transit except for the fact that they looked none to well treated and there was a distinct lack of strong young men and women in fact he could not see any women except a few very old ones anywere.
Just then Roath heard a bit of movement behind him and recognized it as Sir Timothy's crosboy being cocked the one guard he was not under heard it too and turned to look, as his roof guard turned to look Roath grabbed his ankles and tripped him, as he hit the ground Roath was on him and the Waggle womper did it's job with a quick draw across his thoat.
"Hmmm" Roath thought as he looked at his newly aquired blade, "Deez ranger seaxes are pretty good even rusty!"

When the Wargal turned to look at him, Timothy froze for a second, his eyes focused on the Wargal's as the beast tried to figure out the threat. Out of the corner of his eye, Timothy saw Roath grab the Wargal's ankle and out of the corner of his other eye, he saw the other sentry start moving toward him.
Timothy swung the crossbow towards the approaching Wargal and let fly the bolt, instinctively aiming for the Wargal's eye. Before the shaft completed its journey, he leapt forward, dagger in hand, and sliced the wargal's throat to keep it from crying out.
The wargal grabbed at the crossbow bolt in his eye and then his knees buckled and he slumped to the ground, dead.
Timothy crouched and turned back to help Roath only to find him standing triumphantly over his kill. Tim gazed at him in amazement for a moment and then stepped forward to survey the scene below. "Good work, Roath! We may have to start calling you Master Waggle Womper Weilder... heh heh heh" he chuckled. "What's going on down there, did you find out?"
He looked around, counting the number of wargals. If they could get the people below to help themselves, they might just be able to free the prisoners.

"It looks like dem people are prisiners and that they all came from up were the plague is. look at the way they are dressed, dey all lokk like dey stepped off a boat just de way dey stepped on in heavy clothes and such. if they were from around here they would not have to dress so heavy, like dat guy wit de coat wit the sleeves ripped off. Dey look hungry too, I don't see anyone but old men and women and kids what's wit dat?" Roath muttered.
"The other thing is even if we breaks em out, what do we do wit em? I aint leaded a bunch o hungy orphans and geezers tru de wilderness like de good shepard! Who is gonna feed em and take care of em not me brother!"
"It looks like we could get down to dat ridge and get to the fences if we were not recognized, hey why don't you put on the sentry uniform and push me ahead of you like an escaped prisner. we might get inside, or at least I could, den we could figure whats going on!"

Passing the time while you are a prisoner is like watching tar dry, it's all gooey and messy in the beginning but as time passes it just gets dry and dull. This was Harken's dilemma, he could get out but not without alerting the guards who seemed more than happy to hurt these poor folk at the drop of a hat. Not to mention the wargals he had kept seeing patrolling and guarding the perimeters. A blade would be needed to deal with those stink bags, but a blade he had not. These brigands had taken his shield to and put them somewhere. From Harken's reasoning and snippets from the passing guards it was on the other side of this "encampment" and that just wouldn't do, he would have to hope to claim one of theirs before body parts started flying. He hoped someone or something would make a distraction so he could make a move to get everyone out of here, preferably in one piece.
