"Hey, Ari, wake up man! It's dawn and the first of the refugees are coming!" Drake nearly yelled at Ari. "Come on man! I know you didn't get much sleep but still, get up!" For a few seconds Drake thought he saw Ari move in his make-shift bed. But he didn't. He heard Ari move behind him.
"What? How did you? What the? Huh?" asked Drake in a very confused voice.
Do not even tink about me vaking up to see da furst of dem I vas on duty all de damn night ant you ver snoring loud enough to scare a damn troll!"Ari replied, giving Drake a moment to catch up.
"I am going back to sleep, I just got up to water dat tree...ant by de vay did you know dat you vas asleep ven I voke up?"
"Yes, as a matter of fact, I did. And with good reason." Drake responded, caught off guard.
"Ya I vould like to hear dat one but tell me just after you vake me for lunch? Ari chuckled.
"Ummm... I ... got sleepy. Yeah, that's it." Drake knew that Ari didn't even need to comment on his lame response. 'Man,' Drake thought. 'this is going to be a very, very long day.'
(OOC ok man I thought you might go back and change what you had written but I think you may have been unsure of how to do it so I altered it a bit to reflect my real accent and what my personality would have led me to do and say. I left your actions as written but from this point on, you write you and I will write me. if there are spots were you need a reply just break and start a new sentence and I will back fill, or stop the post and wait for my reply. You will get the feel for writing in a conversational style without directing the other half of the conversation it is a little tricky but you are a good writer and will pick it up!)

Master Morgan MacFadden trotted his dark roan up to the hitching post in front of the Dancing Bear.
He dismounted and lay his reigns over the top of the rail looked at his mount and said "Stand Sterling".
He went into the Tavern area common room and there were a few of the local characters sitting and talking while drinking coffee and eating ham and eggs. a loaf or two and some cheeses also were set in the middle of the table.
Morgan looked around and saw Kirby cooking up more eggs and frying some ham strips. He turned to see who had come in and nodded to Morgan with a smile. "Kirk!" he called.
Morgan walked to a overstuffed chair by the fire and sat down. He crossed his one leg over the other and looked at his tall reddish brown riding boot.
A young boy came scuttling over to him with a mug of coffee and a small three legged table to put it on that he set beside him.
"Morning Master MacFadden! Your usual coffee and shall I get you a plate for breaking your fast?" The boy said.
"Oh thank ee Kirk, not right now bu' yew could ge' meh the loveleh young Lady Ah sent heer last night."
Oh yes Sir I was just about to bring her up her breakfast and a washing bowl as I woke her."
"Skip the breakfast bring her th' washing bowl, an tell her tha breakfast is here with meh. Then when you come back down bring out two plates for us at the table over there." He pointed to a medium sized round table over by the window overlooking the castle.
"Right away Sir." said Kirk and he turned and sped off to the kitchen.
There he recovered a large wooden bowl and an oak pitcher bound in iron like a barrel. he poured hot water from the iron kettle over the fire into it and took a white linen towel and put it over his arm as he carried the other two items up the stairs.
He got to the top of the stairs and turned right and down three doors.
Balancing the wooden bowl on his head like a helmet, he rapped on the door, then grabbed the bowl back and said,
"I beg your pardon Lady Olivia are you awake I have come with your morning wash and there is breakfast in the common room with Master MacFadden if you please!"

Olivia heard footsteps coming up the stairs. She quickly finsihed her thought in her journal and set her quill down just as there was a knock on her door.
I beg your pardon Lady Olivia are you awake I have come with your morning wash and there is breakfast in the common room with Master MacFadden if you please!"
She got up and opened the door smiling at Kirk. "Yes I am awake. And thank you very much for the wash bin, that was very thoughtful of you." She took the burden from him. "Please tell Master MacFadden that I will be with him in a few minutes. " She then closed the door and set the wash bin and pitcher on the table. Then she splashed the warm water on her face and dried it off with a towel. Then she did what most girls called primping. Although her version was more like 'lets see how fast I can pull back my hair and call it good.' than primping really. She pulled her long brown hair back with a blue ribbon smoothed the crazy curls a bit and looked around her room. She made the bed, put her blue cloak on the back of her chair put a cork in her ink bottle and nodded to herself. There the room looked more tidy.
Olivia set her used wash bin and towel on the table along with her pitcher. She wasn't sure where else to put them and she wasn't the type of person to just leave it in her room expecting someone else to do it. Then she slipped out and went into the common room looking for Master MacFadden. She found him and strode over to him. "Good morning Master MacFadden." She said cheerfully with a smile on her face. It felt nice to be fully awake and not sleepy, she had slept solidly until the morning hours when she usually woke up. She had woken refreshed and more than prepared for her task.

She wasn't sure where else to put them and she wasn't the type of person to just leave it in her room expecting someone else to do it. Then she slipped out and went into the common room looking for Master McFadden. She found him and strode over to him. "Good morning Master McFadden." She said cheerfully with a smile on her face. It felt nice to be fully awake and not sleepy, she had slept solidly until the morning hours when she usually woke up. She had woken refreshed and more than prepared for her task.
"Good Morning Lady Olivia," The Dashing Horseman said as he rose and pulled her seat out for her. "Allow me, I have taken the liberty of ordering you breakfast, there is not a large selection here at the Dancing Bear, but whatever is cooked is assuredly wholesome and rather tasty. Coffee?" He said as he filled his mug again.
"I think it best we get a good start with a decent meal as you may be quite busy today! The Battleschool master will not be available to see you until lunch with the many duties of the school at this time but he has given me leave to escort you around the School and answer any questions you might have until we meet him at noon. Would that please you?"
"I believe Kirk has gone out to make sure your mount will be fed, saddled, and ready for us after we break our fast."
He smiled at her trying to make her feel comfortable.
"Ah here we are now! Thank you Kirk did you see to the Horses?"
"Yes MiLord They are saddles and waiting out front" Kirk said cheerfully.
"Very good, you will get some extra riding time this week for your attentiveness." Mac McFadden gave him a wink.
"Thank ee Master McFadden make sure it is Goldie I love her! Kirk said with glee and scampered off.
"So good Lady, Tell me about yourself, were are you from, why did you choose this life?" He said the sat back with his breakfast and listened to the lovely courier before him.

Olivia nodded. "That will be just fine. Do you know if there are still guards around Marshwood for the people running from the plague?" She asked sipping at her coffee, she had to stop herself from saying yum or making any kind of odd noise.

"Well, there isn't much to tell. I'm a normal sort of person. I was born in the Araluen feif, I had always wanted to be a courier and when I came of age I was chosen to be a Courier. I trained in the Araluen feif and when I graduated from my training I was assigned to the feif of Norgate. I've been there for," She paused thinking for a moment. "Close to three years now." She drank more of her coffee as well as eating something, it really was good. Well , anything tasted good when you were hungry. And she was hungry. Whoever made the coffee was excellent at it. It was really good tasting, nice, and flavorful.

Well I would surmise that there still are at this point as we have not recalled our own mounted patrols as of yet. However we are expecting to get a messenger from the Port very soon as Baron Justin is likely to make a decision shortly.

"Well that is quite charming, I always say that simplicity is the blank canvas on to which we paint a colorful life, so shall it be with you I believe my dear." He said with a knowing smile and took a final long sip of his coffee.
They settled down to finish their breakfast and when it seemed as though they were done he rose from the table. "Excuse my for a moment Lady I will return in a moment and we shall be off."

Olivia nodded slowly, she would need to be quick then, she had to do her best to convince the Baron to keep Marshwood open for refugees. She had a feeling that he was about to call a halt to their progress and send them back. They had to keep it open this was the only place that was close enough for the people to go to.

Olivia couldn't help a small smile to come to her kips as well. He was right she supposed. She hadn't really taken much thought to it.
They settled down to finish their breakfast and when it seemed as though they were done he rose from the table. "Excuse my for a moment Lady I will return in a moment and we shall be off."
Olivia looked up form the remnants of her breakfast and nodded. "All right."

Later in the morning Ari clawed out of a deep but disturbing dream. He had tried to get back to the dream he was having of Mylia before Drake had awakened him, but it was no good, her sprightly face washed from his mind like a chalk drawing in this cold grey rain.
He rose and broke camp, packing his kit upon his big sandy charger.
He slithered into his chain mail hauberk, then donned each piece of his metal armor.
First his grieves went over his tall boots. These protected his legs from his instep all the way up past his knees, which is paramount for a mounted warrior.
He then put on his mantle-like steel gorget with the layered pauldrons and rearbraces. Now his neck, shoulders and upper arms were clad as well.
He finally put on his gauntlets and over them, to cover his forearms and elbows went his vambraces. These were a smaller version of his grieves and their tops were cut and rounded long enough to cover his elbows.
He slung his wide belt around his waist and fastened it behind him so the plates and rosettes gave extra protection to his midsection. Then he affixed his sword and dagger to his belt and checked his pouch was secure as well.
Finally he donned his Helmet and took up his spear.
He used his spear to assist him mounting as he held it in his left hand and held the rains and pommel with his right. He put his left foot in the cup like armored stirrup and swung himself up.
He had gotten quite used to the maneuver and had become a rather good horseman since he entered the Battleschool.
As with most things that Ari put his mind to, he learned quickly and excelled with a natural skill in any physical or martial activity.
"Drake!" He called to his comrade in arms, "I am going Sout' to Vestmarsh beyon de Vall, to rendezvous vit de Vardens, I may stay over, so keep a eye out for messengers."
Ari turned his mount toward the forest, the "Green Wall" as they called it, and trotted south.
With an almost hallucinatory memory the smell of Gracie's Sheppard's pie filling his nostrils, he revelled in the thought of getting a home cooked meal.

Master MacFadden returned and was pulling on his riding gloves as he reached with both hands to pull out Olivia's chair for her.
"I trust you enjoyed your breakfast Lady? As I said, it is simple fare here at the Dancing Bear but I have rarely had better, more holesome stuff!"
Let us go forthwith to see the Battlemaster he may have some knowledge or advice to to aid you on your mission."
They mounted their waiting steeds and as Olivia got to her horse the young boy Kirk was beaming at her.
"Hear you are M'Lady, It was very nice to meet you!...um are all curriors as pretty as you?..I I mean...is it part of the job?" He fumbled a bit nervously and blushed.
Morgan looked down from his big charger and shook his head with a broad smile,
"Work on that one Kirk it was both cute and comical in an endearing sort of a way, it might have worked if Lady Olivia was not quite so urgently pressed heh heh." and with that he spurred his horse into a trot toward the School.
"Follow me Lady" He said with enthusiasm.

Olivia smiled at him as she got to her feet. "I enjoyed it a lot. And in my opinion the more simple it is the better it tastes."
Let us go forthwith to see the Battlemaster he may have some knowledge or advice to to aid you on your mission."
She nodded and followed him out. She had been deep in thought while she waited for him. Thinking of ways to convince the Baron to keep the borders open. It really all depended on the Baron, what he was like.
"Hear you are M'Lady, It was very nice to meet you!...um are all curriors as pretty as you?..I I mean...is it part of the job?" He fumbled a bit nervously and blushed.
Olivia smiled at him she had gotten this line a few times it never ceased to amuse her really. As the horse master rode away she quickly gave Kirk a pat on the shoulder.
"Being pretty isn't part of any job Kirk." She boosted herself into the saddle. "And really if you want to know just look at another Courier and then you tell me if being pretty is part of the job." She gave him a wink before galloping after the horse master.

Fowler Turtleman sat quietly in the comfortable bottom of his little punt. It had been a good morning thus far he had pulled two of the quickly vanishing turtles out of the marsh on the way to his favorite hunting spot. The turtles were not endangered in any way but they tended to become more scarce as the seasons changed. there would be less and less as the fall progressed and the time he normally spent in trapping spearing and catching turtles for there meat leather and shell, would be replaces by eel spearing and then eventually all would give way to water fowling.
Right this moment in fact he was waiting silently in a large open patch of water that was protected on three sides by the tall grasses. He was anchored by a slat of wood which was jammed down through the daggerboard trunk into the soft mud below to hold him fast. His rig of half dozen or so crossbows were strung and loaded and affixed to the bow and a bit of grey netting which had been littered with some of the surrounding marshgrass and debris was piled up behind them and draped to conceal the little boat and it's one passenger.
Fowler lay in the bottom of the punt with his back and head propped up by extra nets and his canvas sail so that just his head poked up above the combing of the cockpit. His feet were braces against the thwart on either side of the daggerboard trunk and his strong forearms rested on his upper thighs. In his hands he held the cord that was tied in a large loop and that passed through each of the triggers of the many crossbows.
It was quiet her, he loved this spot, it was secluded and not well known to any on the marsh save the most experienced marshmen.
These spots were passed down from generation to generation and were not only coveted they were well guarded by the hunters who used them. there was no official claim on a spot but there was a code of honor that was strictly adhered too by all who hunted. Marshmen "worked" their spots, not only in their harvest, but in their maintenance and husbandry. a spot was considered its own little biome. In one such spot, like this one he currently sat in, the marshman would cultivate the banks for nesting areas, make sure there was adequate food source to attract the many species of animals he was looking to attract and keep the proper "flow" of water in and out to keep all of it vital and alive.
The smell of the duckweed around him told Fowler that this rich ecosystem was healthy and that he had done a good job in managing this spot.
Just then the whir an whistle of many wings ripped over his head and he sow the flock of geese descend with a plop in front of him. he waited till the maximum amount of fowl were within his "Kill zone", then with a strong jerk on the cord he set off his whole rig.
The quarrels shot forth into the flock and the majority of them to more than one bird apiece.
This was not Fowler's first hunt he had been doing this since he was younger than Djolimar and was considered a better shot than most of his peers.
He sat up and moved forward to remove the net screening and view his catch.
The carnage before him was never particularly easy to witness, he love the birds and beasts that he hunted and never took their sacrifice lightly, but such was the circle of nature that he was an integral part of. he hauled on the lines that were attached to each quarrel and pulled in one goose after another.
Seventeen fowl, two turtles of large size a string of muskrat a bucket of eel and two burlap sacks of duckweed was the days haul.
He secured the catch and got the boat ready for it's return trip. He had just gotten the mast stepped and the rudder in its gudgeon's when he saw the black barge at the mouth of his little cove.
Fowler could feel his face reddening and could almost imagine the wisps of steam come off his perspiring head.
"Those rotten bastards! just once they could let me out of a good hunt with all I had, just once!" he thought to himself.
"Well Fowler old boy, how did you do? What you got for us?" a shifty man on the front of the barge poled by six other men inquired.
"What I got for you ya little squint you don't want, as for my catch, the winter is coming and I need what I have!"
"Now now old man, let's not be greedy and mind your manners or I'll have the boys rough you up again, By the way were is that boy or yours eh he ain't been givin back his share lately, to busy tickling that pretty warden woman I suppose, Ah youth..."
"you leave Djolimar outa this or I don't care how many there are of you I will kill you first before I go! You can take a bit extra from me as usual I actually have a pretty good haul what do you say to a third of it?"
Half of it and we will leave you alone, just cause you have such a nasty tongue for us and we just doin our jobs!!"
Take it you vultures and I hope your offer on the duckweed is still good I made a special trip to get the good stuff since your master is paying so well."
"Yes that he is and don't go crying we are payin enough for the weed to quite offset your other losses."
"I don't eat money some of this food is for my table too ya know!"
"Well you ain't going hungry by the looks of ya and you marshmen are all staying healthy ain't yah? Bet the rest of the world doesn't have a clue what this weed can really do and the first one who says anything to anyone who ain't supplying us will get his throat slit I promise that!"
"Just take your ill gotten goods and let me be, or one day you may find the taste of my catch more than you can swallow!."
"Is that a threat Master Fowler? are you threatening harm to the Brotherhood Master Fowler, you know that with a snap of my fingers I could keep you from setting foot on this marsh forever."
"It is a promise you slimy eel! and you don't scare me, you would not dare cut off what I can produce. I bring in more than any three hunters to fill your pockets"
"Well then we might have to just find us three more poachers just to make up for ya cause I am sick of your guff!"
"Run along little man, you and your hooligans, and I ain't no poacher! what you get from me is under protest and all a bunch of brigands!"
"Oh sure we are, and you are just an innocent little lamb, one that lines our pockets and keeps his boy outa trouble and don't you forget it!"
Fowler clamped his jaw shut and seethed with hatred as he watched the barge and half his days toil, as it was poled away.
When it was out of site down the waterway he reached over to a line that was tied off to the stern cleat.
He pulled up the large wire basket hidden on the bottom in the mud, that held dozens of clams and muscles, oysters and conch.
There was enough in the basket to justify the hard days toil all by itself.

Morgan spurred his horse to a gallop and rose in his saddle, the spirited horse launched forward and MacFadden took a peak under his arm to see that Lady Olivia had taken the challenge.
She had and he saw her spur on her horse to catch up. He eased his weight back a bit shifting his center of gravity and it was enough to tell his mount to ease slightly, but when Olivia came astide he once again moved to a galloping position.
They continued toward the Battleschool and at last he eased up and sat upwards in the saddle slowing to a canter then to a trot.
"You ride well Lady, and your mare is as spirited as you are, you make a good match!"
"I will take you on up to the Battlemaster's office and then I must attend to my duties, but please call upon me if you are traveling back this way at any time I would be delighted to accompany you and a run over the countryside and a bit of a pic nic anytime you are in the area!"
They got to the main building and entered a hall that had many trophies and portraits of fighters and riders, as well as many weapons upon the wall and a few standing suits of armor.
"Right this way M'Lady up these stairs to the left".
In a blink MacFadden had wisked them both up t a large office that a large man behind a large oaken desk seemed to take up the majority of the available space in. Or perhaps it just seemed so as the Battlemaster was much bigger than most men and seemed to want not to stand out to emensley in his surroundings.
Morgan waited politely at attention untill the man behind the desk lifted his gaze . I seemed he had been aware of their presence for a bit but chose to let them wait till he had finished his thoughts and got them onto the paper he was writing on.
"Hahoom!" he uttered as he cleared his throat, "And whom do we have here Master MacFadden, a curriour by the looks of her, Are you on official buisiness my dear?"

Olivia and Mara caught up with him and kept his pace easily. She smiled an breathed deep she loved the fresh morning air on her face it made her cheeks go all rosy. At long last they slowed down and came to a rather large building. "You ride well Lady, and your mare is as spirited as you are, you make a good match!"
She turned to him a smile coming to her lips. "Thank you Master MacFadden," She bent down and patted Mara on the neck she tossed her head in response to Olivia's touch. "Yes Mara can be rather spirited I do admit. But I love her for it."
Olivia slid off her horse and straightened her cloak which had gone a bit crooked during the ride.
"I will take you on up to the Battlemaster's office and then I must attend to my duties, but please call upon me if you are traveling back this way at any time I would be delighted to accompany you and a run over the countryside and a bit of a pic nic anytime you are in the area!"
She nodded she rather liked this master MacFadden he was a really nice fellow. "Thank you very much I do appreciate it." She followed him into the building all the way to the battle master's office. She took in the room in her stride and used the time he didn't respond to their presence to take out the letter that was in her bag. It had the Baron of Norgate seal on the letter and it was unopened by her or anyone else but she could pretty much guess what it said.
"Hahoom!" he uttered as he cleared his throat, "And whom do we have here Master MacFadden, a curriour by the looks of her, Are you on official buisiness my dear?"
Olivia frowned slightly but smoothed her expression over and gracefully stepped forward. "Yes Battle Master I am on official business and my Name is not "dear" it is Lady Olivia if you please." She placed the letter on the desk. " I have an official letter from the Baron of Noragate Fief he requests that you look it over. It is of the utmost importance."

"Ah Yes, Hoom Hoom!" he cleered his throat in a officious manner as he puffed on his long hunter's pipe. Amid the billows of aromatic smoke he recieved the letter, "Thank you very much my..Uh Lady Olivia, we must always pay attention to the proprieties Hoom, quite, yes..." He opened the letter and took it toward the mantle to used the additional light to read the parchements contents. "Please do make yourselves comfortable Lady, you too McFaddon, whilst I have my scribe copy the contents of this letter," He rang a small bell and the studious little man from the outer office came in quickly with a scribal set and started about the transferance of the note to a blank sheet of parchment. The battle master continued. "I would then see that you are well fed and supplied Lady, for your continued journey to Marshwood. Has her mount been seen to Horsemaster?"
"Oh yes sir, said McFaddon, "and she has had a hearty breakfast, though I will make sure she is provisioned and escorted as far as Muttonton."
"Very good, Hoom, Thank you for your service Lady, do you have any questions or requests of me at this time?"

Olivia stood there trying not to blink rapidly as the smoke from his pipe was quite strong and almost making her eyes water. She stood calm and composed, every inch of her the Diplomatic Courier she had been trained to be.
"Very good, Hoom, Thank you for your service Lady, do you have any questions or requests of me at this time?"
Olivia was a little taken aback by the question it wasn't one she was used to. She usually had to badger her way through. She of course didn't show her surprise instead a look of thoughtfulness crossed her face very briefly. For she was aware that he was a busy man and didn't want to waste his time necessarily. But as stubborn and 'I can do it myself' kind of person she was not totally adverse to advice when it concerned barons. She knew very little of this Baron Justin and any advice they could give her she would take it willingly.
"Master MacFaddon has been more than kind to me. Although Battlemaster if there are any suggestions in which you could give me about Baron Justin I would gladly hear them. I know you are a very busy man so I will take up no more of your time than that."
