((This thread is basically what Nikki is doing in Seacliffe, so feel free to add posts with your character coming to visit Seacliffe, I wouldn't mind the extra fun!))
Nikki had just gotten off the ferry that brought her to Seacliffe Island, the base of her new fief. She was glad to have been moved to a warmer fief, previously she had been towards the north, and in the winter she thought she would freeze to death, something she hadn't been much accustomed to in her previous life... which she rarely thought about. There was just to much in it too comprehend. Too much of her life back then had been terrible, so she sends it to the very back of her mind. She couldn't be a good ranger when she was worried about trivial things like her past.
She had spoken to the previous ranger, and he had recommended a certain inn that supposedly had some of the best flakey berry pie... something she was always in the mood for. She suspected it wasn't as good as her "mother's" in the inn she had lived in, but anything close would be nice. With that though she also resolved to visit the couple who had brought her up properly until her apprenticeship. She saddled up her pony in the stable and kept her Ranger's cloak with the pony so no one would treat her any different than a normal traveler. She hid her knives underneath her tunic, but kept her bow with her. It wasn't to odd to be carrying a longbow in this area.
Entering, a young innkeeper's daughter came to her, and ushered her into a seat. She thought the girl looked sweet, and she stomach seemed plump, maybe she was well take care of, or otherwise. The innkeeper came up to him, a twinkle in his eye. "'Ello there young'un, what'd you be eaten today." A smile crept on Nikki's face, she hadn't been called that for ages. "What ever your cook is making will do" He seemed to be surprised by her style of talk, no slang, but an accent on it, but he went out to bring her some soup.
Behind her she heard the gruff voice of a man who had obviously had his mouth around a pipe far to often than was healthy. His words were muffled under the untidy beard that caught what ever didn't land in his mouth, but what she could make out wasn't very pleasant to her ears. She ignored it as best as she could, but memorized his face and voice in case it came in handy.
When her supper came, she took in the delicious smell, and ate slowly and calmly. She thought maybe the man would make a bad decision, or drink a bit too much ale, and then she would be needed... despite her wishes to stay to herself, she wasn't even supposed to be here until tomorrow, no need to make townspeople edgy before necessity came in. Her meal passed, and as she waited for the berry pie, the man drunkenly stumbled from the inn, being denied another drink.
The pie was good, and she didn't feel the need to stay any longer, and she needed to find the cabin and go see the baron before she was allowed to rest, and she owed it to Nyx to unsaddle her soon, and she couldn't until after she spoke to the baron. "Thank you, compliments to the chef." she said as she paid, and left through the front door.
Hopping onto the saddle and setting off quick enough, but not to fast that anyone would raise suspicion, she set off for the cabin. It wasn't to hard to find, or to far away from the castle, but it was far enough to give Nikki her independence from the Baron. It was just like her last one, but just, not as harsh.
Entering, she knew there had been someone in here recently. The dust was gone, and it didn't smell damp despite the closed windows. She figured this had been the work of the Innkeeper's wife who, as the previous ranger had told her, cooked for the ranger of seacliffe and kept the cabin while he or she was away.
There wasn't much to do but relieve Nyx of the extra saddle bags, and tell Spirit to stay put and not follow her. After she did so, she donned her cloak and set off. It was curious to see the difference between her in a cloak and otherwise. Eyes stared, but never directly. Her cloak easily hid her gender, especially since she was barely womanly built, so no one was giving her uncertainly looks, just ones of fear and curiosity,
She wouldn't let the stable hand touch Nyx, instead insisting she dealt with the mare herself. It was only minutes before she was at the baron's office, her letter in his hands, already read. A smile was on his face, but it didn't feel welcoming more.... mischievous more than anything. Beside him was the battle master, the person she needed to make sure kept his students in line and trained and ready for a fight. Apparently he hadn't been doing that good of a job in past years.
Nikki wondered what these two possibly had in store for her.
