...“I sure hope Mouse is okay.” ...
...Ben, are you awake? It’s...
...“She is really good...She really could make a decent..."
..."...said...he would...help... and to... bring..."...
..."terrific! I wouldn’t mind getting..."
“Bring him in here.”
“I got the arrowhead out...The point was right next to spine.”... ...“you did t..."
"...baking soda?...I had no idea. I need to add that..."
"...don’t have to cook it! He should be okay for a bit.” "Yeah let's..."
Ben roused fully to the faint smell of something meat-based cooking, and near complete darkness. "S' somebody cooking a mouse?" he mumbled incredulously. "Why?"
(OOC: He's a little foggy, and mostly going off of what he recalls hearing when drifting in that twilight zone between sleep and awake.)

Tory followed Nissa’s example and motioned to a serving boy to come over. She ordered a loaf of bread, the vegetable soup with dumplings, a full wheel of cheese and a slice of cherry pie. The special of the day was roasted grouse, which, the boy explained, was why the place was so crowded tonight.
“Did you have a hunter come through with a mess of them earlier?” Tory asked, curious how the tavern would have such a delicacy in enough quantity to make it a special for the day.
“Naw, Pap’s got a friend who raises ‘em, but we only get them every couple of months. Takes awhile fer the birds to grow, y’know.” The boy smiled at her, his eye resting on her horseman’s bow leaning against her chair. “Ya really know how ta shoot that thing? I thought girl’s couldn’t shoot”
Tory’s eyes narrowed in anger for just a moment, but she realized he wasn’t trying to tease her. “You don’t get out much. Lots of girls know how to shoot and are better at it than a lot of boys.” Obviously, her men’s clothing did very little to disguise her female form. Everyone seemed to recognize she was a girl, including the group of young men in the opposite corner across from the door. They were alternating between talking and laughing. One of them pointed at Mouse and slapped his buddy on the shoulder. Tory sighed, knowing what was coming next.
She turned back to the serving boy, “What’s the name of this town, anyway?”
The boy scratched at the side of his nose, “Waterford. You must not be from around here.”
“Nope, you have never seen me here before, right? So if I was from around here, I am sure we would have met before now.” This kid wasn’t the sharpest tool in the toolshed, thought Tory. She glanced at Mouse, hoping she saw the trouble brewing.
Sure enough, as soon as the boy left their table to fill their order, two of the young men approached the table while the other six sniggered in the background. They looked like farmers with nice, but simple clothing. They were probably the same age as Mouse, or maybe a year or two older. Tory didn’t feel very comfortable around them. She loosened the dagger up her sleeve and rested her hand on her seax knife hilt on her belt.
“Hi Ladies!” The taller, blond-haired man smiled at Mouse. “We haven’t seen anything as pretty as you two little doves light in here in many a moon. What say you join me and the fellas over there? We can have a real party tonight, dancing and everything!”
The other one was just four inches taller than Tory and he had dark hair. He was smiling at Tory and nodding his head. Tory glanced at the others and shrank back into her chair, wishing she was anywhere else. She shook her head, but didn’t say anything. She had a feeling Mouse was much better at handling this kind of attention than Tory was and she wanted to see what the bandit would do to get rid of their unwanted guests.

The healer looked up from his desk when he heard his patent ask, "S' somebody cooking a mouse?" he mumbled incredulously. "Why?"
“Well, Hello there. Welcome back to the land of the living.” He moved to Ben’s side and placed a hand on Ben’s forehead. “Don’t fret none. I am a healer and your friends will be right back. They just went to get something to eat. How are you feeling?” He took the blankets off Ben’s feet. “Can you wiggle your toes for me?”

Nissa knew that those boys would be trouble from the minute she had seen them. She made sure the dagger in her boot was easy to draw as Tory and her ordered food.

Nissa rasied an eyebrow but shook her head.

She had a feeling Mouse was much better at handling this kind of attention than Tory was and she wanted to see what the bandit would do to get rid of their unwanted guests.
"No thank you, we aren't really in the mood." she said a lot more politely than she really wanted to. She could tell that Tory was extremely unconfortable. She wished she could some how signal to the girl to act confident thats how you had to deal with bozos like this. The man didn't leave.
"Oh come now, it would be fun!"
"Oh I'm sure you fellas know how to have a good time but me and my sister just aren't interested right now. Maybe some other night?"
He frowned a little wondering why this chick was being so difficult. He was smart enough to know he was good looking but dumb enough to not realize he should just walk away. "But we want to show you a good time tonight. Come on, it will be fun. Me and my mates know how to treat a girl right"
Nissa smiled, but there was a cold glint in her eye. "I'm sure you do, but like I said we aren't interested. We just want to eat our food and sleep." she slipped her hand to the knife hilt in her boot she had a good idea what he was going to do next. Sure enough he reached his hand out as if to pull her into coming over to his table. Quicker than the eye could detect Nissa pulled out her dagger and slammed it down onto the table, it pinned his shirt to the table but didn't cut his arm. "I don't think you understand me very well." the other man looked warily at Tory in case she was capable of something similar. "Me and my sister have no interest in doing anything or going anywhere with you. If you don't leave us alone, next time. I wont miss. Understood?" The man nodded, she pulled her dagger out of the table and made a shooing gesture with her hands. "Now if you would be so kind as to leave us alone. We would greatly appreciate it. The two men looked at them then a eachother then slowly backed away and went back to their other friends. Nissa sighed. "Well that went better than I thought it would. Last time....well I won't mention detail. Needless to say someone lost an ear and a bet."

Tory took her hand off her seax knife and found it was shaking. She squeezed it into a fist to hide the tremors and wished the serving boy would bring the ale soon.
"Well that went better than I thought it would. Last time....well I won't mention detail. Needless to say someone lost an ear and a bet." Mouse sighed.
“I was going to aim for a place considerably lower than his ear,” Tory muttered. “I really need to stop falling to pieces every time some man like that fat pig, Korin, looms over me.” She couldn’t help it, however, every time she got into a situation similar to this, she flashed back to her childhood and felt again how helpless she was to stop Korrin from assaulting her. She remembered the sting of the whips on her back, because he usually did it late during the night after he had beaten her for some imagined infraction during that day.
Tory nearly snatched the mug of ale out of the serving boy’s hand when he came back to the table with their food. “Thanks for handling them. Let’s eat and get out of here fast.”
A few minutes later the farm boys got up from their table and made a lot of noise about leaving and the hour being late. Tory scowled at them as they boisterously walked out the front door. It was obvious they were pretending to be more drunk than they really were. Equally obvious they were planning more mischief for the girls.
“You know they are going to be waiting out there for us.” Tory muttered softly to Mouse. She noticed the stairs going up. When they were done eating, she suggested they go upstairs, possibly to the roof if they could find a way onto it. “We may be able to see where they are lying in wait for us from up there.”
“At least none of them looked like anyone in Avery’s gang, did they?”

Nissa shrugged, "Not a problem happy to help." she didn't comment on how shaken Tory looked, she knew that look she had experienced it so she knew what it was like. "Besides." she smirked a little. "You gotta admit his expression was pretty priceless."

Nissa glanced around the room as she chewed her bread wondering if anyone else noticed the boys, most just looked happy that they were leaving, so obviously they were normal trouble, well that was just great she bet though that she and Tory could handle them, Tory was a ranger after all that had to count for something right?

Nissa noticed where Tory was looing and had to admit she was impressed, the girl had a good eye. "Yes they are definteily planning something, if you are THAT drunk you usually start singing or brawling not walking upright like they were." She sighed drained her cup and nodded to Tory. "I agree with you there the roof is probably our best vantage point at the moment. From there we can make a plan." She got up and headed for the stairs after making sure no one was looking in their direction.
