( This takes place in Meric fief not sure what year, just want to RP Nissa a bit more, it's more or less about bandits and their gangs. Soooooo rangers and other bandits are welcome oh and assassins to!) [OOC by Tandar: Bandits' Surprise is just for fun and has no effect on the participating characters' history.] Nissa lay on her stomach knife on one hand quiver on her back bow strung and next to her ready for action. Beside her lay Lizzy also known as Bean Pole because she was so tall and skinny. The two had run into each other some days back, Lizzy had asked if Nissa would teach her some of her tricks on banditry and play acting. Nissa was only to happy to help, it was nice having another person to talk to, one that didn't talk down to her because her size. Someone who looked up to her, well metaphorically speaking because Lizzy was so tall she looked down at Nissa. She had grown to consider Lizzy her apprentice of sorts, the girl was good at moving without being seen, but needed to work on not being heard. When she was excited she tended to giggle uncontrollably at that gave her away as well as noisily plowing though under brush. Which reminded Nissa that she needed to give the girl pointers but that could wait until later right now they were going to get themselves some gold. Nissa pointed to the travelers on the road they were nobles traveling on horse back with only three guards. "See them? They are easy targets." "How so? They have guards." "True enough but look, neither of them has a bow and arrows." "And?" "Annddd, that means if they want to go after us they have to go after us themselves they can't just shoot us from afar. In which case they'd have to leave their masters behind and after being robbed I don't think they'd appreciate it very much." the two girls were laying on a sort of cliff that bordered the road on one side. It was the prime place for bandits to lurk and pick out the quarry. "So here is the plan, I'll go over to the slight hill farther down the road and make it seem like theres more than just the two of us ok?" Lizzy nodded. "Then when I call out 'Give us your money or your lives.' or something like that you come out from here and stay behind them." "Ok, should I take the money?" "Yes, I'll keep the gaurds occupied." "Oh my gosh this is so exciting!" Nissa laid a hand on her arm. "Not a movement or a word until I give you the signal, you come out to early you'll give us away and they will bolt and we'll lose them." "Ok, I wont." "Good." Nissa slithered back and staying low to the ground made her way to the hill, buy passing the travelers in a matter of minutes she crouched on the hill and readied her bow waiting for the right moment to stand and attack the small party.

There was another thief hiding in some brush up the same road. He knew that people would be coming around this time of day. He was young, but a master bandit, so he knew the "schedule" very well. The young man's name is Fin. He has been on the run from justice and committing acts of thievery since he was seven. He heard footsteps as he pressed his ear to the ground, and was in a ready position to sneak out, get some money, and leave, with little chance of him being noticed. And if he was noticed, he had a little knife always at hand.

Nissa waited for the right moment the stood to her feet pulling back the string as she did so an red feathered arrow nocked and ready. She let it fly through the air in front in of the first horse, it smacked the ground in front of it and the horse danced to the side in fright. A second later another arrow struck the ground to their left then to their right. The guards heads swiveled as they heard and saw the arrows thinking that there was more than just one. Lizzy was about to get up from her spot and run at the people when Nissa suddenly shot at her a signal to run away. Nissa had noticed it when she had shot her second arrow. The noble hadn't been the least bit surprised. In fact he even looked right at her and she knew right there and then that this was a set up. She raised her bow and fired off another shot hitting the first guard in the shoulder. She shot the other guard in the leg then ducked rapidly, the noble or more correctly a ranger had brought out their bow which had been concealed underneath their cloak. An arrow whizzed over head then she heard the shout that made her a tiny bit scared but mostly proud. "It's the Mouse!" "Steven take care of your comrades I'm going after her." that was the ranger. "Damn it!" cursed Nissa she got to her feet and ran off she heard hoof beats behind her she was being followed. "Well! Nothing like a mid morning chase to get the blood moving!" she thought racing through the trees dodging this way and that. There was little chance she could out run the ranger they were experts in the forest and she was on foot he on horse back. There was little she could do but try and run but inevitably she knew she would get caught.

Fin heard the whizz of an arrow, and peeked out to see what it was. He then saw more arrows being shot at the ground. There was a cry of pain, as an arrow hit a guard. He saw that one guard left, while the other stayed with his comrade. Fin ran out from cover and went behind the group. He took out his knife, threw it, and saw one of the guards fall. That should distract the other guards for just the right time. He rushed in behind the guard, grabbed his purse of money, and bolted.

Nissa knew that she only had one way of actually out running the horse provided the ranger didn't shoot her. Although with Rangers they usually wanted you to have a fair trial and all that stuff. Although there was a small chance that he wasn't one of those and would have no qualms in shooting her she had been about to steal money which was against the law. And rangers were keepers of the law soo yeah she was dead if he shot her. Well she needed some way to escape so she dodged suddenly to the side grabbing the small tree and using momentum to swing herself around so that now she was going toward the ranger and not away. She was to far away for him to reach out and grab or kick as sure footed as ranger horses were the second it took them to turn their horse around she could be long gone. Hopefully anyway she didn't see a lick of cover that little ploy had bought her time but how much?

Fin continued to slither through the underbrush towards his shack as he fled from the group of people from whom he stole the money from. He heard hoof beats close behind, but he knew that he was hidden quite well. He kept his eye out, thigh, for whoever it was that shot the arrow he had heard. His friends shod be waiting for him at the guild.

Nissa ran looked back at the horse and rider and ran right smack into something solid yet squishy. Her elbow slammed into Fin's stomach and she totally lost her footing. She came crashing to the ground with a grunt and thump the wind knocked right out of her. Luckily for her the ranger and the horse galloped by but it wouldn't be long until they circled back around realizing she had disappeared and where. Ranger's were uncanny that way. She rolled to her feet and looked at the person she had run into. Her hand twitched toward the dagger in her boot. Fast as she may be with a bow she was at to close of quarters to grab an arrow and release it without them stopping her. Her dagger and her fists were better suited for close combat.

The bandit attacks were terrible this year. Corps reports estimated the nationwide death toll to be in the dozens with many more injured. Robberies were becoming commonplace, especially for wealthy folks traveling on remote highways. Commandant Crowley had ordered that results be delivered soon, for citizens were starting to panic, and merchants were holding back caravans.
Patrick Palisade, the Ranger assigned to Meric Fief, adjusted the fancy cloak he was wearing over nobleman’s attire. He felt ill at ease, and not just from the stiffness of the clothing. He and the Araluen Guardsmen with him were easy targets on the open road for someone with a ranged weapon. Realizing he was holding his bow in a death grip, he slackened his hold somewhat.
His Ranger horse, Caliber, let out a low whinny, indicating that someone else was nearby. The first arrow with dark red fletchings hit the ground, and instantly, Palisade’s alert level spiked. He scanned the tree line in the direction of the shot, looking for the source. As soon as the second projectile left Nissa’s longbow, the Ranger spotted her. She was surprisingly decent with a bow and was able to put arrows into two of his men in a very short amount of time. He struggled to regain control of Caliber as the horse danced sideways in fright. Palisade whipped aside his cloak, revealing the small recurve bow that had been concealed underneath. He pulled an arrow from the quiver on his saddle and fired it in one smooth, continuous action. The shaft buried itself in the trunk of a cedar some feet behind Nissa, quivering with the force of the impact.
“It’s the Mouse!” a mounted Guard yelled as he identified the threat.
“Steven,” Palisade said in a gruff, authoritative voice. “Take care of your comrades. I’m going after her.”
Squeezing his thighs together, he urged his mount into a gallop, homing in on the shooter. At the same time, he reached for another arrow and readied his bow. The Mouse appeared to be no more than a mere girl, he thought as she fled before him. As he neared her, he made an attempt to ride beside her and make a grab for her long, blonde braid. However, the Mouse deftly switched directions causing him to inadvertently pass her. By the time he got Caliber turned around and galloping in the direction he had last seen Nissa, she had vanished.
“Whoa.” Palisade gently pulled back on the reins and dismounted. He knelt and silently examined the forest floor and understory for sign while listening carefully.

Nissa decided three seconds after looking at him that he was a bandit to. But despite what rangers thought not all bandits were friendly toward other bandits. She decided to cut her losses and help him since she did run him over, "There's a ranger hot on my trail. You should beat it before he gets here." she told him then deciding in probably a horrible decision that might just come back to bite her in the behind she ignored the other bandit and went to work silently climbing a tree. Making sure to only move when the breeze blew to minimize the realization that the tree wasn't shaking just from the breeze. Once she was up where she could see out she saw the ranger on the ground examining it. She sighed well he'd easily track her all the up to this tree. She'd just trapped herself. Or had she? She grinned a little, she un hooked her bow from around her shoulders selected an arrow but hesitated to draw back. Yes she didn't have a problem with killing him at all, she hated rangers so much, but on the off chance that she missed she would have given her position away prematurely. She raised the bow again and changed the aim off of the ranger and to the rangers horse. If she could get rid of his mount he couldn't come after her as easily, yes he had a longer stride than her but his main advantage was his horse. She hesitated yet again she had heard rumors that rangers were extremely found of their horses. If she killed his horse he was certain to come after for sure with a vengeance in revenge. She gave a soft sigh and shifted her aim back to him. Killing him seemed to be the best option right now so thats what she was going to do. She pulled back and was about to release the killing shot when a squirrel chose that moment to startle her by chattering at her and running along the branch above her. She gave a startled yelp and release the shot it sailed through the air and struck a tree 6 feet away from the ranger and his horse, her bow also slipped from her fingers and she toppled backwards She hit her shoulder on a branch. "Ow!" she reached out and grabbed a branch stopping her free fall. She hung there by her hands and cursed quite heavily. The farther down you were the farther the branches were apart from one another her feet were dangling about two feet from the next branch down. Only thing was she didn't know if she could retain her balance if she simply dropped down onto it. She tried to think of how to get herself out of this possibly life threatening situation. She didn't want to get captured by the ranger but she was totally out in the open facing him no less. She also didn't have a desire to break her neck either. "Damn it! I hate being so small!" she cursed if she could drop down to that branch it was another four feet to the ground she could make that drop because the ground was stable. She looked out at the ranger her expression unhappy wondering what he was going to do.

Emily looked down from the branch she had been resting on, her Ranger Cloak keeping her concealed. She swung her left leg over and let her self drop to the branch below her, barely getting her footing. Her feet had missed the girl's hands, and Emily sat down by the girl. "Your in a fine pickle." She said, keeping a conversational tone. "My name is Emily, and I think you could use some help."

Standing from a treetop perch, Karel viewed the road. He knew there were going to be travelers today, word had spread that a noble and armed guards would be passing through. This information came from a reliable source, however Karel didn't like it. In his mind it sounded to good to be true, 'It just screams trap! A wealthy noble passing through a known spot where bandits poach, announced even! Ludicrous! Still some may try for it, and then if they succeed I'll just have to take what's not theirs from the beginning,' he thought, an almost amused grin playing at his face. After some time the noble and his troop came into view and Karel slipped down from his perch and waited in some roadside brush. Sure enough someone tried to steal from the noble using a fairly elaborate ruse, what he didn't expect was the second thief to join in and abscond with his coin. Nor did he expect the noble to be a ranger, an experienced soldier maybe but not a ranger. Forgoing his seemingly lost coin he set out through the brush to follow after the ranger and see whom he had targeted, and maybe even lend a hand in liberating this brazen bandit should he/she/or they get caught. When Karel caught up to ranger he seemed to be looking at tracks on the ground as if his query had disappeared, so like the ranger Karel looked around and spotted two women in a nearby tree. Karel confused and being very cautious hunkered down waited and observed to see how the ranger was going to deal with the two women in the tree...

"That's a long drop." Emily said after a moment of silence. She held out a hand. "I will help you. Please trust me." She looked around the ground and she thought she saw another person hiding. "And if the person hiding doesn't come out, I'll send my saxe knife in that direction."

Palisade moved slowly along the floor, tracking his quarry. For a seemingly uninteresting patch of woodland, there were quite a few sets of footprints in the dirt. Though the sound of a squirrel's angry chatter reached his years, the significance of it was lost on him for a split second until he heard a short cry followed by a projectile zipping past him and clipping a sapling before burying itself in the soil. As the Ranger quickly sidestepped into the cover afforded by a large tree trunk, he managed to catch a glimpse of the dark red feathers on the end of the grounded arrow. He signaled Caliber, and the squat Ranger horse obediently trotted closer to his master, hopefully out of the shooter's line of sight.
Palisade took a few steps back from the trunk and began slowly coming around the tree while leaning out. The Ranger Corps called this technique "slicing the pie," and it allowed them to corner without exposing themselves much to a potential threat. He held his recurve bow with a nocked arrow in a low ready position so as to not obstruct his vision. Due to his training, Palisade could raise his weapon and fire a shot in the time it took most bowmen to draw the string. The Ranger missed the stopping power of his massive longbow but opted for a smaller, more concealable one for this operation. Fortunately, his target was within range of the shortbow, and almost any bow in the hands of a Ranger was a deadly weapon.
He stopped once he could see a little of the Mouse hanging precariously by her hands. From her angle, the Mouse would only be able to see a sliver of him peeking around the tree. Glancing at the ground, Palisade saw what appeared to be the bandit's fallen longbow. He opened his mouth to announce himself but closed it again. A nimble movement had caught his eye around the thick branch the Mouse was suspended from. He frowned, not comprehending what he was looking at. Patrick moved around the trunk a bit more. Then it dawned on him. A camouflage cloak. Someone was sitting in the tree wearing a Ranger cloak. As somebody began to speak, Patrick tried to listen in.
It was difficult to hear, but it was a female voice. Of that, he was certain. Confusion and anger welled up inside him, and questions flooded his mind. Is this newcomer a Ranger or an imposter? What is she up to? Why is she on my turf? Did Crowley dispatch her to Meric because I couldn't take care of my own fief? The voice spoke again but this time with more volume.
"If the person hiding doesn't come out, I'll send my saxe knife in that direction."
Patrick wondered briefly if she was talking to him or if yet another person was lurking in the woods. Not wanting to risk taking fire from a fellow Ranger, he bellowed back.
"King's Ranger—Palisade! Identify yourself!"

''King's Ranger, Emily Wilson.'' She answered smoothly . ''Would that be Patrick Palisade I'm speaking to?'' Emily jumped nimbly from branc to branch of the tree, rolling slightly when she landed on the ground. Her black eyes glittered .

"That's a long drop." Emily said after a moment of silence. She held out a hand. "I will help you. Please trust me." She looked around the ground and she thought she saw another person hiding. "And if the person hiding doesn't come out, I'll send my saxe knife in that direction."
Nissa glared at Emily. "I don't need your help nor do I want it and I will never trust you. You're a ranger!" Nissa moved her hands along the branch away from Emily clearly unhappy with the situation more so than before. She looked around for the ranger she saw some of him from behind a tree but nothing more. Her shoulders and arms were starting to ache from the strain of keeping her self hanging there. She didn't much pay attention to the proceedings after that but was happy when Emily hopped down from the tree. She moved her hands again concentrating on the branch the two rangers can do as they please but right now she ignored them. Either he'd shoot her or he wouldn't either way she couldn't stop him. She curled her feet up and using her abbs and her arms she pulled herself up and curled her body over the branch then lifted her legs so that she was straddling the thick branch she shook her arms then looked back at the two rangers on the ground. Hadn't the girl said that there was a second person? Nissa thought she had meant the ranger but maybe not. Her eyes scanned the ground looking for yet another person she hoped not otherwise she wasn't going to be happy. Well less happy than she already was. She carefully reached down and dug into her boot bringing out the only weapon left to her. Her dagger she rested it on the branch if anyone tried to climb the tree she'd slice their face. The only way she was coming down was if the rangers shot her out. Otherwise she was staying put. She had heard of Patrick Palisade, most bandits had, a week or so ago he had sent one of her friends to the noose. She'd be lucky if she escaped this one she had no desire to dangle at the end of the noose. But Patrick wasn't the kind of man you could fool with a sob story some tears and a pretend change of heart. Although he didn't sound to happy to see the other Ranger Emily she thought she had said her name was.
