"And if the person hiding doesn't come out, I'll send my saxe knife in that direction."
After hearing about a possible blade being flung in his direction Karel froze, then slowly lowered himself to the ground. He pulled out his hand crossbow, terrible out in the open or in any long range combat but perfect for short range and in the woods, and slid one of his own knives out of its sheath. Belly crawling to a different position Karel heard from the ranger,
"King's Ranger—Palisade! Identify yourself!"
and once again froze. Palisade was one of the best rangers out there and he was less than a stones throw away. Raising himself to a crouched position, Karel was able to peer through the foliage to see one of the pair of women and some of Palisade, not enough to take a shot but enough to know when he should start running should Palisade turn. Then Karel heard one of the women respond,
"King's Ranger, Emily Wilson.'' She answered smoothly . ''Would that be Patrick Palisade I'm speaking to?''
he was near a state of shock. One ranger was bad enough, Palisade was a different story altogether, and now she was claiming to be one as well! Things were going from bad to worse for Karel, no coin, no easy thievery, and now not just one but two rangers! He had to think of a way to get out of there. While Palisade was partially covered by the tree Karel thought he stood a better chance of getting away without too many problems since the second ranger didn't appear to have a bow at the ready. Karel, through his new found knowledge of such a threat so near at hand completely forgot that there was a woman still suspended from a tree. As Karel started backing out of this declining situation his foot settled on a twig, "Snap!" From there he remained motionless hoping that the keen eared rangers might have missed the sound, though he doubted it, and waited for the eventual running, fleeing, and possibly fighting for his life...

Emily turned toward the SNAP! of a tree branch breaking and had her saxe knife in her hand in a heart beat. "I'd like to have you where I can see you." She called out. "And, if you don't, my saxe knife will be coming to you!" She added, with mock cheerfulness.

"Would that be Patrick Palisade I'm speaking to?"
“In the flesh,” the male Ranger replied, still unhappy and wary of her presence. Palisade waited for Emily to land on her feet before inquiring. “Did you see anyone else while you were up there,” He gestured at the tree with his head. “Or are there only three of us?” As he spoke, he noticed the bandit girl retrieve a weapon from her boot. “Knife,” he warned Emily.
“Throw the blade down and come out of the tree,” Palisade ordered the Mouse.
At the sound of wood snapping, Patrick resisted the urge to turn toward the distraction. He knew the Mouse was clever and would likely take advantage of the moment to escape or attack. Since he already had the bandit girl covered, he figured Emily could investigate the potential second threat. “Wilson, go check it out. I've got the Mouse.”

"I saw a movement." Emily said. "There might be three of us, and I noticed." She said getting ready to go investigate the sound. Before she went she turned to Patrick. "My name is Emily you know. You can call me that." And with that she went to investigate the sound.

“Throw the blade down and come out of the tree,” Palisade ordered the Mouse.
Nissa's hand tightened on her knife she was not an idiot. She kept her gaze on Palisade or rather what she could see of him he was the real threat she had decided. Emily wasn't her problem Palisade was. She laughed but it was tight with now humor. "No. I may be young but I'm not stupid. I can't throw knives either never been much good at it so how about this? I'll keep my knife and stay safe up here and you don't shoot me and move on? Everybody wins no bloodshed no mess what do you say?" she highly doubted that he would actually listen to her, she knew he wouldn't but it would buy her time. She had some advantages. 1: she was high up in the tree in order to touch her he'd have to get on his horse to reach and by then she could scramble farther up the tree safe out of reach. 2: she had at least her knife anyone who came up the tree would get a slice or two. But she had some majour disadvantages to. 1: she had been telling the truth she couldn't throw knives, when she had run around with another gang of bandits for a little while the leader Tick and tried to teach her. They had both given up she was hopeless. She kept putting her archery instincts into it and it always messed up her throw. 2: she was in the tree surrounded by two rangers and an unknown person, all three of them could wish her harm and if they pooled their resources she was done for. Not only that but she couldn't get out of the tree because she was surrounded. 3: being in the tree made her exposed her legs dangled freely her upper body was partly concealed by branches she was pretty much a sitting duck for a ranger and their accurate aim with a bow. Although Nissa was surprised he hadn't shot at her yet, but of course she was grateful that he hadn't. She hoped he wouldn't, her mind was racing as to what she could do to get free. She supposed if worse came to worse she could turn herself in and then later when the ranger was sleeping she could slip free of her bonds and fade away into the forest. She was good at that, she was also good at freeing herself from being tied up no matter how tight or what way they did it rest assured given enough time Nissa the Mouse could break free, even from chains. she had done it before and the result had been extremely painful and left scars on her wrist but she had done it and as she gazed at the ranger she knew that if she needed to she would do it again. She would NOT go to jail to be hanged for her crimes she wouldn't! She would fight she would make this rangers life a living hell that he would be happy when she escaped. Being hung was a fate she feared most and a nightmare she dreaded. She set her jaw and took a calming breath clearing her mind, she would do whatever she had to in order to stay out of jail and out of the hangmans noose. Even if it meant killing Palisade, and Emily. She had come to far and done to many things to be caught and killed now her only hope was that Palisade didn't shoot her out of the tree, or if he did to only injure her. If she could live through this then she could get free later.

'Crows, crows crows!' he thought as he knew the acute hearing of rangers was sure and true.
“Wilson, go check it out. I've got the Mouse.” "I saw a movement." Emily said. "There might be three of us, and I noticed." She said getting ready to go investigate the sound. Before she went she turned to Patrick. "My name is Emily you know. You can call me that." And with that she went to investigate the sound.
Karel didn't dare freeze this time. He crouched as low as he could and moved into a nearby large bush, quickly turned his cloak around and draped it over himself so as that it would look like he was part of the shrub. He also got his hand crossbow ready just in case and placed one of his paralyzing poison bolts into the nock. His heart was racing and his adrenaline pumped through him so much that his breathing became heavy but he quickly regulated his breathing, and settled into a calm that only people who have killed another would know.

Emily turned toward the movement. "Come out we're I can see you!" She called, pulling her bow back to half draw. "Now."

When he saw that Nissa was not responding to his commands, Palisade returned his arrow to the quiver strapped to his back, exchanging it for one from his tall nobleman's boot. He didn't believe one word that came forth from Nissa's mouth. The dagger was a deadly weapon, and the Mouse's refusal to cooperate could be a stalling tactic while she planned a manuever. It was time to take it out of play.
"Mouse!" the Ranger called to get the attention of his target. At the same time, he stepped out from behind the tree and in a smooth, continuous motion, brought the shortbow up, firing a single shot.
The blunt-tip arrow struck the Mouse in the shoulder with the force of a small mace, inflicting trauma and sending her tumbling out of the tree.

Nissa didn't really expect the arrow to come flying at her. It struck her shoulder sending her falling from the tree like a stone in intense pain. She gave a sharp cry of pain she tried to break her fall by using her good arm to grab the branch she of course couldn't keep a hold on it and fell to the ground on her back with a heft thump. Nissa groaned she was in so much pain, she was sure her arm was dislocated and the fall had jarred every rib and bone in her body. She was seeing stars for sure, still she willed herself to roll over and pathetically tried to crawl away from the ranger. She saw her dagger it wasn't to far away if she could just get to it and least she'd have a chance. Using her good arm she dragged herself forward, she was breathing heavily and her vision was all spotty she willed it all away. She dragged herself another inch forward for once she was glad she had clipped her quiver to her belt and not her back because that would have hurt a lot more than it did now. Her arrows were clinking noisily giving her an idea she abandoned the dagger and instead awkwardly scrabbled at her side for an arrow. Arrows were sharp they could be used to stab someone just as good as a dagger.

'Like I'm stupid enough to come out and get shot,' Karel thought as he did his best to not move a muscle. 'Maybe I'll just sit here and blend in until you leave Miss Wilson,' he pondered. As the ranger grew ever closer to his shrub. With any luck she will pass right on by and be none the wiser then, he could wait until dark and high tail it.
"Mouse!" he heard Palisade yell. Then what sounded like a bull crashing through the forest. 'Crows, he must have shot that woman out of the tree,' he thought, 'case and point,' as he fought back a shiver. Karel had been shot before and knew it wasn't a pleasant feeling. He was in it for the long haul now and dared not move or breath to give away his position.

Emily stopped moving by Karel's hiding place. "Karel," She said her voice deceptively calm. "Come on out. I won't hurt you."

Palisade glanced around to make sure there were no other obvious threats presenting themselves before leaving the relative safety of the tree trunk. As he advanced on Nissa, he pulled another arrow out of the quiver on his back. This one had a sharp head. Nocking the arrow, he held the bow in a low ready position.
"It's not worth it," he told the Mouse, shaking his head. "Whatever you're trying to do is going to get you killed." He spotted the Mouse's hand moving to her side, so he stopped just short of her reach. "If you let me take you in, you at least have a chance, and you can leave here without further injury. However, if you continue to resist, I promise this will end badly for you."

Nissa glanced back at him and noticed the arrow on his bow. It was all over her shoulders sagged, it was all over for her now. She used her good arm to prop her head up off the ground and closed her eyes her forehead wrinkled in pain. Every breath was painful through her very sore ribs she wouldn't be surprised if she had actually broken one or two although it didn't feel like it she had broken some ribs before. They were just bruised but that didn't mean it didn't hurt. her shoulder was dislocated and throbbing she was sure there was a massive bump and an ugly bruise already forming. "We both know what will happen if I'm taken in. A so called fair trial will only end in hanging you know that." She didn't really think that he knew the extent of her thievery of the millions of people she had injured she had only killed a few he didn't know for just how long she had been hunted. She laughed painfully. "Promise?" she forced herself up into a sitting position her face screwed up in pain and faced the ranger, her eyes were alight with a very intense glare. "There is no promise I will ever trust coming from a ranger." her dislocated arm hung limp and awkward at her side using her good arm she grabbed her arm and held it close to her body so it was simply dragging on the floor. On her cheek was a nasty scrape from when her face had come into contact with the rough bark of the tree when she had fallen out of it. Oh yes she hated rangers and she was beginning to hate this ranger more that the ranger back home, well her old home with her father anyway the bastard.

Emily stopped moving by Karel's hiding place.
He heard the ranger move up near where he was hiding and held his breath. Tensing up and praying that she would simply move on passed him.
"Karel," She said her voice deceptively calm. "Come on out. I won't hurt you."
A sudden mystified shock went through Karel at the mention of his name. 'How did she know my bloody name?!' he thought as his mind raced under several different scenarios. 'Did she catch a glimpse of me and recognized my face from the wanted posters?! How on earth did she do that? I was so far away! She must have excellent vision! Bloody crows!' Then his mind took a different path, 'Not hurt me? First off I'm bigger, stronger and faster then you little ranger, second I know that's a crow begotten blatant lie. Crows! That other ranger just shot that other woman right out of a tree!' Karel didn't dare move but on the off chance he must his hand, that didn't hold the crossbow, hovered over the dagger at his hip. 'If she wants me to come out her mind has gone to the crows. I'm much safer in here. If she reaches in I just dodge or stab her and if she tries to shoot or throw something in here the foliage is so thick it'll deflect right off and come nowhere near me.' So as the couple mere seconds passed Karel had sorted it all out in his head. He was safest to stay right where he was ready to either pounce or hold fast. Come hell or high water Karel was not exposing himself to the rangers.
