Ranger Doogan was chatting quietly to Bunt and turned a bit in the saddle. he heard the young ladies chatting and gave a smile. "Why don't you Rangers get acquainted on your first mission together, Ride up a ways, almost out of sight, and scout the road ahead of us. Keep your eyes and ears open and make sure you listen to your ponies. They have better senses than we do, which is why we don't ride carriages." He chuckled to himself and gave a wink to Bunt. It had turned into a beautiful Bluebird morning, the sky was almost azure with wisps of feathery, white, clouds very high above them. The sun was climbing and warmed the party's backs and a slight, but steady North breeze, out of Picta, served to widen their eyes and cool their faces.

Emily nodded, gesturing for the other girl to follow her before urging Dancer on. She was quiet, enjoying the cool breeze. But, she was also almost lost in thought, wondering about the trip.
She glanced around, using her eyes and not her head to make sure the way ahead was still clear and trouble free. She felt almost like a child again, and soon it was happiness and curiosity replacing her fear and worry.

Sage rode at Emily’s side, also looking around and above them. She was more than a little paranoid of bandits jumping out of trees since the incident last fall when she and Bunt were ambushed. There was a sharp curve in the road ahead and the trees were thick in that spot.
“Perfect place for an ambush ahead,” she said softly to Emily. “It wouldn’t surprise me if Bunt arranged some sort of party for us.”

Meanwhile Bunt was enjoying the company of an adult. “We needta git her evaluated n give her that silver leaf, Doogan. She’s wearing my patience thin at times,” he said, rubbing the stubble on his chin. “Don’t git me wrong, I love the girl, but she can shore be a trial to an old man. Probably up there cooking up something for us around that bend ahead right now.” He gave a slight flick on the reins as Low Belly tried to snatch at a passing patch of tall grass hanging over the road.
