Name: Marcus Christopher Blackwater
Profession: Ranger, Silver Leaf
Age: 23 (in 658) (Age 31 in 666)
Sex: Male
Appearance: Marcus is rather short, being only 5 feet 4 inches tall and is slight of build, though wiry. He has thick sandy blond hair which he generally keeps cut so that it just brushes his shoulders, however it is often falling across his face and seems to be rather unruly even though he tries to keep it combed. He has hazel, almost amber colored eyes with a straight nose and high cheek bones. His skin would be fair except that it is tanned from the constant exposure to sunshine for he rarely stays indoors for long.
He wears the standard issued ranger cloak, saxe knife and throwing knife and carries a longbow and quiver of arrows. Under this he normally wears brown trousers and a lighter brown shirt with a black leather tunic that laces half way up the front. The tunic is sleeveless and is trimmed in brown that matches his pants. It also has small beach-leaf shaped plates of blackened steel that overlap providing him with a minimum amount of armor over his chest and back. The sleeves on his shirt are tight and he wears dark brown leather bracers on his forearms. His black knee high boots lace up the front and have thick, soft soles to allow for climbing. He also wears black archer gloves with the fingertips cut out and in addition to the silver leaf around his neck he also has an earring in one ear. The earring is a chunk of amber with gold filigree fittings, however most people don’t even notice the earring because his hair is always covering it up.
Personality: Generally Marc is a happy person and gets along well with most people. He tends to make friends quickly and his boyish looks and honest nature invite people to trust him. He usually looks on life with a positive attitude. He takes his job seriously though and gets very angry at those who prey on the weak and less fortunate. He is intelligent and well educated and loves to read. He still dreams of being able to create and run a boarding school for the poor, the orphans and the street children. He is collecting books and money and other items with that goal in mind for when he is able to retire from the Ranger Corps. Marc is also a craftsman and pays particular attention to details and is a perfectionist. He has high standards for himself and expects no less from others around him and gets very disappointed in people when they don’t apply themselves to reach their full potential. He loves to climb trees and other things and to swim and he has a slight fear of snakes and reptiles. He also loves being a ranger but fears the day when he might have to take someone else’s life in the line of duty, for to him, all life is precious.
History: Marcus is the second eldest son of a woodcrafter and grew up in his father’s workshop learning the trade. However, upon his older brother’s 16th birthday, his father announced that Timnus was going to inherit the business and Marcus and his two younger brothers would have to discover another means to support themselves. This meant that if Marcus were to continue in the trade, he would have to purchase his own set of tools and find a place to open a workshop and merchant booth that would not compete with his brother’s and father’s shop. Although Marcus was disappointed, he was also somewhat relieved. He had been afraid that he would be a failure as a woodcrafter, given that Timnus was much more skilled than he. He had hoped that he would be a partner however, and take care of the business side of things, but his father put a stop to those thoughts and so Marcus, at the age of 14 was forced to make a choice that would affect his entire future.
That choice came to him suddenly one night when his best friend was murdered while making his way home from delivering wool to a ship down in the rough part of Araluen City near the docks on the Semath River. Determined to find out who had done the terrible deed, Marcus ran headfirst into the local ranger’s investigation and nearly got himself arrested. The ranger, however, saw something in the boy and took him under his wing. After they caught the culprit, the ranger suggested that Marcus become his apprentice. After five years as Rick Greenriver’s apprentice he earned his silver leaf and was assigned to Culway fief in the south. Now nine years down the road from that day he met Greenriver, he was back in Araluen visiting his family.
Other: Marcus has a ranger horse that is shaggy and a very dark gray with lighter dapples. He has four black stockings, a black nose and black tipped ears but his mane and tail are lighter gray. His name is Sea Spirit.
Relationships: Marcus is twitterpated by Courier Olivia and pesters her constantly to marry him.
