Summer was full swing and the forest was calm and cool, but for Sileas, it meant fresh foods would be ripe for the picking. Slipping out of her makeshift hut the young girl brushed some leaves off her clothing and some out of her hair. Picking up a bag she made her way quietly out of the forest. Heading for Redmount, not her usual target for swiping food, but nobody knew her there and maybe she could swipe a few things before someone noticed. "Right Sia, get in, get something to eat, get out... don't do anything stupid, don't make yourself too obvious" She told herself as she walked.
Upon arriving the young girl looked around, her ashy green eyes scanning the surroundings as she casually walked along looking for anything that may be able to be stolen with ease. a fruit stand caught her eye and she mentally licked her lips as she made her way over scanning over the selection of fruit. she noticed the stall owner was busy selling to another lady, and with some kids playing nearby nobody seemed to notice the young women slip an apple into her bag before she took a step back and casually walked away.

Allison's skin glistened with light perspiration in the midmorning sun as she jogged into Wensley, the village situated just across the Tarbus River from Castle Redmont. She slowed to a walk since she was at the conclusion of her eight-mile jaunt. Almost no one ran for sport at least in these parts, and it would not do to be on the receiving end of the villagers' questioning stares.
As she approached the outdoor market, she consciously made an effort to blend in. Not through the use of her camouflage cloak—she was dressed for exercise—but by walking with clusters of shoppers and keeping to the shaded patches. It was something she liked to practice to ensure her skill level did not drop. Allison paused near the center of the village to take a drink at the well. A water barrel had been placed there for that purpose so that an entire bucket would not have to be hauled up every time someone was thirsty. The refreshment soothed her parched throat, and the Ranger left the dipper hooked on the rim of the barrel.
She looked around with her hands on her hips, taking in her environment. A woman haggling over turnips. A street trader hawking costume jewelry. A fruit vendor counting a customer's coppers. Allison's eyes moved briefly to the left and caught what appeared to be a young lady shoplifting an apple from the stand. It happened so quickly and subtlely, the Ranger almost questioned whether it had occurred at all.
"Miss!" She jogged toward the girl. "Brown shirt!" She raised her voice to be heard above the din of the busy market.

Sileas heard the call but figuring it was for to someone else she continued walking. Turning she slipped down a side street and kept walking, making her way for the entrance of the city, continuing to play it cool and move as if she was meant to be there " just a little farther, and your home free, just stay calm" she said softly to herself.

The girl appeared to be ignoring Allison though the Ranger supposed she may not have heard. Grabbing a handful of the shoplifter's brown top, Allison gave it a firm tug to get her to halt.
"Miss," she said sternly, trying to normalize her breathing. "I watched you take that apple without paying."
For the first time, Allison saw the girl's face as she turned. It was not exactly clean. Smudges aside, her face was thin. Some might say overly so. The Ranger's eyes darted to the shoplifter's hair. Her hair was messy with tangles and even little bits of debris caught in it. Allison thought she saw a piece of a pine needle. This girl is stealing out of necessity.
"I ought to make you return it."

Sileas let off a soft yelp as she felt the sudden tug on her top. " H hey! " She said in shock about to say more when the lady spoke again these words made her lower her head, nobody had ever caught her before. "I--I'm Sorry," She said softly as she moved her hand into the bag and pulled out the Apple. " please don't turn me in... I'll take it back " She said now speaking in a sad tone.

The stern look on Allison's visage softened.
"Is everything all right, Ranger?"
Allison glanced over her shoulder to see a capable-looking man with his hand on his sword hilt. He had observed or overheard at least part of the exchange.
"Yes, Constable Walter, everything is fine," Allison replied.
Walter gave a small bow of the head and turned to resume his patrol. When he was out of earshot, the Ranger let go of Sileas' shirt, sighed, and continued.
"I don't have any coin on me at the moment, but we can return and purchase the apple later. For now, why don't you put it back and join me for brunch?"

The word ranger made the hair on her arm stand on end what trouble had she gotten herself in she knew now running was impossible. the young girl would remain silent as the two spoke for a moment not even moving or backing away at all knowing anything she did would just put her into more trouble. " Yes Yes I'll take it back... a and brunch sounds good," She said not wanting to make the Ranger mad by denying her offer. ~great what am I going to do now~ She thought to herself.

As the pair strolled back through the marketplace, the Ranger prompted Sileas to return the stolen fruit by giving her a light push to her back, then they continued to the northern end of the village. As they rounded the corner of a building, the street opened up into a square, and a medium-seized wooden structure stood directly across from them. A large, colorful sign was nailed to the wall adjacent to the door. It read, "The Heaped Platter," accompanied by a dramatic depiction of a mound of vittles piled onto a plate.
"My name is Allison by the way," she said as they walked. They entered the establishment to find it busy, but not yet packed. "Have you ever eaten here?" she asked Sileas. They found an empty table with two chairs and made themselves comfortable. "Chef Jenny's cooking is locally famous for good reason."

Sileas slowly walked over to the fruit stall and sat that apple back down before slipping back away from it without a word she then followed the ranger looking around as they walked not very fond of still being within the town, but she wasn't going to complain. Her stomach rumbled at the smell of food as they got near to the building.
inside she was happy to be sat away from people, upon the ranger telling their name the small girl spoke up " My name is Sileas" She said softly looking around "No, I have never eaten here before" She replied looking around again, clearly nervous.

"G'morning, Allison!" A young man in a waiter's uniform stopped at their table and beamed at them.
"Hello!" The Ranger chimed back. "Rafe, this is my friend, Sileas. Sileas, Rafe here is the head waiter at the Heaped Platter."
Rafe straightened up a little with pride, and his countenance brightened even further, which hardly seemed possible. "Pleased to make your acquaintance, miss. What may I fetch for you ladies to drink?"
"Coffee for me, please, and my meal will be the usual. Sileas, order whatever you'd like." Allison slid a menu across the tabletop. "Oh, and Rafe? Put this on my tab. You know I'm good for it."
Rafe nodded.

Sileas give a shy smile to the man " It's nice to meet you " she said with a soft nod " Could I have some milk?" She asked looking at the menu " And to eat id like some stew" She said looking at Allison and then back at the Waiter.

"Of course," Rafe replied. "I'll be just a moment." The young waiter gave a small bow and retreated to the kitchen returning a minute later with two mugs which he placed before the ladies. Again, he left them to themselves.
Allison pondered the morning's events in silence. Sileas had blended with the throng in the market smoothly, much like the Ranger herself had been trying to do. The girl definitely had potential. With proper training, that skill could be cultivated and put to good use within the Corps. After all, Commandant Crowley had been urging her for months to take on an apprentice.
"I would like to make you an offer, Sileas," Allison began, "But I would speak with your parents first before we discuss any formal arrangements."

Sileas watched the waiter walk away before she took a look around the room, observing the people seated at other tables. There were people drunk and slumped over their table, some higher class people sitting in a back corner, she noted they seemed to be judging everyone, by the way, they would discreetly point at someone and then laugh, Rolling her eyes Sia looked back to where the waiter had vanished to.
She only turned back to look at Allison once she spoke. " What kind of offer? " She asked tilting her head slightly " You can't speak to my parents because, Well... My mother's gone and My father is nowhere to be found... I don't even know who he is, or if he's alive" She added with a soft sigh.
