Deep within the Mountains of Rain and Night, far from the eyes of any guard or watchman, lies a place of much violence and pain. This is "The Arena of the Damned" and for most, that name holds true. A huge stadium, carved from the very rock of the mountains, it is revered as one of the greatest accomplishments of the world... among less friendly folks. But then, it's only the less friendly folks that know it exists. In The Arena, slave and warrior alike may be pitted against one another for gold and glory. Some men and women fight for long-awaited freedom... and some... just for kicks.
For secrecy's sake, The Arena is accessible only through a steep, rocky path from the Southern Cliffs that must be found by boat. Betting on fights is not only permitted, but encouraged. Anyone can enter, but dying is a possibility for any and all contestants. So... Will you brave the Arena and earn the title of "Champion"? ___________________________________________________
THE RING This includes the fighting ring, the stands and the judge booth. The Ring is the site of the action. Whether it be single combat or a man defending himself against a pack of lions, there is always entertainment to be found here. Up in the stands, bloodthirsty viewers make wagers and shout taunts at the combatants below. In the Judge Booth, Llane Rikan and his highest advisors decide the fate of souls unfortunate enough to lose in the Arena.

As dawn reached the Southern Cliffs, Llane Rikan took his seat in the booth, high above the ring of combat below. As he sat there, waiting for the first fight to begin, he stroked the shell of Krogel, who sat in his lap nibbling on some cabbage. He could smell blood in the air. It made him smile. He sat up and followed the stands with his eyes. Not many people this morning. There never were, but things picked up at night. He hoped to see some more interesting fighters today. They'd hit a dry spell recently and very few made far enough to even be considered worthy adversaries for the veterans. He slouched in his chair. It was... relaxing.
Melody shook her head at the sword handed toward her. She didn't want to fight. She wanted to go home. She went limp in her captive's grip and earned a backhand across the face.
Before she could control her, she attacked. She grabbed the blade handed to her and slammed it deep into the man's stomach. She whipped it out again, a sneer showing on her face as hte man collapsed to the ground, blood trickling from his mouth and gushing from his wound. He was still trying to hold in his insides when she was pulled by another guard and shoved into the arena.
Melody screamed at her, begging her to put the blade down and head back inside, but she wouldn't. Kieran was in charge now and she wouldn't give it up easily. She wanted to kill again, wanted to know that she had control. She sneered as she noticed a line of blood on her hand, splatter from the guard's stomach. As her opponent entered the ring, she licked it slowly off her skin, eyes mocking the man as she did so.
Without a second passing, she attacked as Melody screamed. She whipped the sword around to come down in a diagonal strike from left shoulder to right hip before cutting across the stomach horizontally.

Llane watched the two enter the ring and sighed. Another slave... It would be over quickly. He slouched in his chair only half paying attention to the battle below until... The girl fought. She fought well. He stood, moving to the railing to get a better view. The crowd loved her. He smirked with delight. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Melody's opponent jumped back, surprised be the speed of the attacks. He put up his shield and took a defensive stance, waiting to see what she would do next. He was still underestimating her though. He assumed that first strike was a fluke.
13 Right arm (severe damage – deep cut, bone breakage)
Kieran sneered as the man blocked her blows. A kill shouldn't be too easy, if it was she had the tendency to play with her victim. She loved the screams the best. She wanted to make him scream. She hadn't been out in so long.
She didn't go for his body this time, instead attacking hard on the shield. She slammed her sword into it before snapping her left foot hard into his side. As she bent the knee to bring it back, she snatched the knife out of her boot and slammed it into his arm to the hilt before jumping back.
Melody panicked. "Where did you get that!?"
"I picked it off one of the guards."
"No." Her panick increased. "No. No. No. No. No!"
Kieran laughed hauntingly in reply. "Yes Mel. You don't have as much control as you like to believe. Do you really think your mother died by an animal?"
Kieran's laughter rang out, blocking Melody's screams, but she never once took her eyes off the man facing her, especially the blood pulsing from his arm. An inch higher and she wouldn't killed him, tearing into his artery where blood pumped out so much faster. But she didn't want him dead. She wanted to play.

Llane grinned as the girl below laughed. She wasn't just good... she was nasty. He liked her. He'd already made his judgment. When this was over and that man was at her mercy, he would die and Llane would give her permission to deliver the final blow. He looked at Krogel who sat on the banister in between his hands. The turtle looked up at him with an indifferent expression on his face. "Oh, don't look so bored, my friend. You just aren't watching closely enough," he said jokingly. He grabbed Krogel by the shell and spun him around so that the creature faced the ring. --------------------------------------------------------- 11 Neck (light damage – flesh wound, bruise, partial choking) --------------------------------------------------------- The man howled in pain as the blade broke his flesh. He staggered back, ripping it out and watching his arm bleed as the little girl laughed maniacally. "You little..." his voice trailed off into incoherent swears and vulgar language. He charged, having dropped his shield, unable to lift it with the wound in his arm. He brought his sword up in the air and brought it down, hilt first, trying to knock her out. Unfortunately, he was losing blood and tripped, the hilt barely connecting with the girl's neck. He limped backwards, sword extended towards her with his bloody arm hung limp behind him.
Kieran rolled her neck, feeding on her own pain though light it was. She hit the side of the man's sword, forcing both blades parallel to the gorund. They hardly stayed there as she sent hers in circles around his, spiralling the tip of her blade closer to his hilt before flicking it away.
She grinned as she watched it fly a few feet to her right and she stepped in after it, blocking his path toward it. She cocked her head to the side with a smile, playing her tongue over the bottom of her top teeth.
"I'm so happy you want to play with me. I don't get to play much."

17 Torso back (severe damage – deep cut, vital organ pierced, spine broken) -------------------------------------------------- The man stepped back, looking around. He refused to lose to this girl. He would die here... or worse, he would live with the shame of defeat. He spun around, spying the blade that had been used to pierce his arm before. Hr stumbled back, grabbed it and charged the girl again. He used what remained of his strength to spin around her, pivoting on one foot to get at the right angle. Then he plunged the bloody dagger deep into her back. "Take that!" he shouted at her with what pride remained in his voice.
Kieran kicked out at his leg just as he was spinning around her, but it was a weak blow as pain exploded in her back. [continues with the counter-attack on next post since you can't roll two different outcomes, if that's okay? If not, I'll just delete it and redo this one.]
18 Head (severe damage – cracked skull or unconsciousness)
She didn't step foward to get it out without tearing more of her flesh, nor did she do much of anything to remove the blade. Knowing that the cut was deep, she decided to leave it in there to try and lessen the amount of blood flowing from her body.
So she twisted the sword in her hand, moving it up and to the side - straight up through his jaw to pierce his brain. [OOC: Is that okay? Or are the 'cracked skull' or 'unconsciousness' not just examples but the only possibilities?]
"Bad playmate," she skulked as she twisted the blade and removed it. She stood her ground, not daring to move in case it pierced too close to her spine. She wiggled her toes as she looked up to the judges' seats, defiance high in her eyes, a crooked grin on her lips.

Llane grinned as the man dropped dead to the ground. His eyes met those of the girl down below and he shouted, "Well done, combatant! You have fought most excellently for a first timer! You have claimed victory today! Return to the Undercroft and receive due medical attention. You've certainly earned it. Though you would be wise to remember in the future to wait for the Judges' call before delivering the death blow! The consequences could be... fatal," he said with a wicked smirk. He returned to his seat, lifting Krogel from the banister and bringing him back as well. Today looked promising.
Kieran accepted the guards' help out of the arena. She was proud, but knew when to fold. Help would be taken and those that shamed her in offering it would later die. She smiled at the two guards helping her, her tongue rubbing the bottom of her top teeth. Their deaths would be pleasurable.
Brandwyn: Thanks Firehead. It is getting a bit better. I think the PT is causing more pain than the injuries. LOL

Brandwyn: You can jump in on Tory's surprise. I need to go rattle Tandar's tree so he comes and posts on it again. LOL Oh, and you didn't sound rude at all. We quite often post here in the chat box to let people know we have made a post someplace, so that was fine.

Brandwyn: Hello. Between physical therapy, work and this stupid AD&D campaign that I really don't want to play, I haven't had much chance to post here. Got tomorrow off and I am going to make an effort to catch up on some threads!
May 16, 2021 19:50:05 GMT -5
Brandwyn: okay, it is technically Tandar's turn on Tory's Surprise. I am going to jump on the Halts Playground facebook page and see if I can get him to put a post up ASAP. If he doesn't respond, we will probably skip over him and keep going.
