(OOC: Open to Damien and Red)
A few days out from La Rivage, Red crested a low hilltop and pulled Hap to a stop, examining the terrain with a careful eye, and waiting for Damien to catch up. "It looks like we've found the front..if those vultures are gathering for the reason I think their gathering for." He turned Hap sideways so he could look back at their trail. "Seems nice and quiet."

As Damien caught up to Red, he pulled Equis to a stop. Hearing Red comment on the vultures, Damien nodded his head grimly. "Well if its quiet, then either the enemy is waiting in ambush, or both armies moved on for a bit. Either way, I say that we move with caution from here on out. The last thing that we probably want is to be ambushed. After all, we are the ones who should be doing the ambush, not them." said Damien as he looked around.

"Yep." Red sighed, then gave Hap a nudge, sending his horse down the slope at a quick walk. They might as well check out the vultures. Not that he really cared, personally, but the vultures were here and so was he and Damien, so they might as well find out who'd died.
He reined Hap to a stop again, only a short distance away from the source of the vultures' grisly meal. A half-dozen men had been killed-- sometime yesterday, apparently-- and from the looks of things, a large, large army had marched through not long after, headed deeper into Gallica's interior.
Red cringed as he looked around, taking stock of the situation--it wasn't a pretty sight. The vultures had been making short work of the bodies. Glancing at the sun, Red estimated that they had close to half the day left at their disposal. Red shifted in his saddle, undecided for a moment, then sighed and slumped his shoulders, turning Hap to follow the tracks of the army. "Can't risk burning what's left-- someone might see the smoke, so little left, we might as well leave them. Come on. We might as well find out how much opposition we're gonna have...and where the Gallicans have got off to."

Damien sighed as the dead men came into view. It was hard not to let loose the contents of his stomach, but Damien kept everything in its rightful place. Hearing a small wimper coming from his saddle bag, Damien gently patted Fenrir on the head to reassure him. Hearing Red say that they should move on, Damien responded, "Right, lets keep going." Looking down at the ground, Damien said, "Look, it seems that we've got some tracks leading away from here. Guess we should follow them. Right?" He then waited for Red's answer.

"Right. But keep your eyes open for trouble. They might still have scouts bringing up the rear." Red cautioned. "And on account of that, we're going to keep to one side of this road." he added, guiding Hap to one side of the mass of tracks that they were following.
As they were riding along, Red suddenly asked, "What are we doing here? We came to Gallica looking for a bunch of horse thieves, and wound up in the middle of a war." He shook his head, trying to rid his thoughts of the confusion those two sentences brought. "Focus!" he muttered, berating himself for the short lapse in his attention.

Damien nodded his head and urged Equis into a walk. Patting the horse for comfort, Damien looked around. This would be his first dangerous mission. Anything could happen. Staying close to Equis's neck, Damien kept an eye on his surroundings. The person who doesn't pay attention almost always winding up dead. And Damien did not want to wind up dead.
So far so good, no one had attacked them yet. Jerking his head up, Damien heard something. Voices in the distance. Urging Equis to walk up next to Red, Damien whispered to Red, "Do you hear that? People in the distance. Do you think that it could be the people that these tracks belong to?"

Red tipped his head to one side, listening carefully. Sure enough, the sound of several voices jabbering away came from up ahead. "Odd. I wouldn't have thought we'd catch up to them so quickly. Not that I'm complaining, of course. I think we'll lead the horses for a bit--save some of their energy, in case we have to leave the area sudden-like."
He slid out of the saddle, reached for his bow, and frowned, irritated. "Rats. Yes, I think if trouble's up ahead we'll be leaving quite fast." Mentally, he reminded himself to at least make a bow and arrows at the next opportunity. Then he nodded to Damien. "Well, what's up ahead?"

Damien nodded his head in agreement as Red stated that they should lead the horses in case that they had to make a quick getaway. Noticing that Red didn't have his bow and arrows on him, Damien slid his bow and quiver off of his shoulder and onto his hand and said, "Here. Take mine. Your a better shot than I am. Besides, I prefer close combat." To exemplify this statement, Damien readied his two knives. Putting the larger knife in his right and the smaller one in his left, Damien was ready to fight if need be.
Looking up ahead, Damien peered through the forestry. There seemed to be a camp with only a few men up ahead. It seemed to Damien that this was just a small raiding or scouting party. That would explain the dead bodies a little while back. Looking over to Red, Damien said, "It seems to me that this is a small scouting or raiding party. Probably split off from the main group. Well, your call. What should we do? Do you wanna take them head on, or observe them from a distance?"

Red nodded gratefully to Damien, "Thanks." as he accepted the bow and arrows. He slung the quiver over his shoulder, but kept the bow, strung, in his hand. Upon seeing the small size of the encampment, he frowned. 'Very odd indeed.'
Damien's voice broke into his thoughts. "Do you wanna take them head on, or observe them from a distance?"
Red knew immediately what he wanted to do at the moment. "Observe. We don't want to get in over our heads in any trouble just yet." he muttered the last sentence to himself, low and under his breath, "Yet."

Damien nodded his head in agreement and said, "All right then. Probably best to see what their intentions are anyway and see where their weapons are. You know, just in case." Turning back to the bush, Damien continued to observe the encampment. Peering through the bush, Damien looked for the tent with all of the weapons. Finally spotting it, Damien said, "Figures, it just has to be in the center of the camp."
A couple hours later, the sun was beginning to set. So far all Damien had deduced was where their weapons were. Sighing, he turned to Red and said, "Wow, this is beginning to get really boring. And to top it off the sun is beginning to set. What do you want to do? Wanna keep observing them or wait and see where they are heading in the morning?"

"Well.... If they're part of the actual army... Which has more than enough men in it already..." Red narrowed his eyes thoughtfully, then nodded his head, slowly but decisively. "I think we'll pay them a visit. Get some rest, when I wake you up, I'll have the details of this operation figured out."

Damien nodded his head and said, "Okay. Some rest sounds good to me." Walking over to Equis, he pet the horse on the side of its neck, then focused his attention to the dog sticking his head out of the saddle bag. Gently picking the dog up and out of the saddle bag, Damien put him down on the ground. Petting Fenrir on the head, Damien sat down and kneeled against a tree. Having Fenrir lie down next to him, Damien fell asleep.

Red gave some careful thought on just how much disturbance the two of them could actually pull off, and finally decided to go for the maximum amount of damage. He waited for the next six hours, giving Damien time to rest, and the Aslavians time to grow lax in their vigilance. Finally, Red turned to Damien, and shook him gently. "Wake up. It's time for us to make an impression on these folks.
Here's the plan: You're going to wait for me at the edge of their camp, while I go in and try to get as many of their weapons as possible. I'll come back to where you are, and give you the weapons. Your going to take them back to our horses and tie them to my saddle. Once you've done that, go back to your spot at the edge of camp, and there you'll probably spot another bundle. That'll be weapons too. You'll do the same thing with them, as you did before.
When you come back, I want you to untie as many of their horses as possible before you hear a ruckus, and lead them away from camp, as quietly as you can. While your doing that, I'm gonna see about setting the tents on fire. Now, when you start hearing a ruckus, I want you to get to our horses, and ride, got me? I'll sneak one of the horses you didn't get, and catch up with you as soon as I can. Now, lets get to work."
Red grabbed his bed roll, before leaving the horses, and making his way down the hill, toward the encampment. Once there, he waited for the sleepy sentry to pass, and then slipped in between the tents. Upon reaching the weapons tent, he unrolled his bedroll and, taking one inside, spread it out and began laying weapons down on it. Once he had a goodly supply on the blanket, he wrapped it up and carried it to the outskirts, where he left it to Damien to carry back. Then he went back for the other blanket and more weapons.

Damien nodded his head as Red recited the plan to him. "Right. Got it. Good luck." he said as he put Fenrir in the saddle bag. Giving the dog the be quiet sign, Damien went to his position. Seeing the rolled up weapons, Damien took a quick look around then moved quietly towards the weapons. Picking them up, Damien tucked them underneath his arm and scurried towards the horses. After reaching the horses, Damien tied the weapons to Equis's saddle. Giving the horse a pat on the head, Damien scurried back to his position at the edge of the camp.

Red finished the second bundle, then took a careful look around. for a small group, they sure carried enough weapons. He borrowed a couple of knives, sticking them through his belt, then took the liberty of selecting a longbow, three quivers of arrows-- one of which, along with Damien's bow and quiver, he put in with the weapons in the blanket-- and a half-a-dozen bow strings, which he placed in his belt-pouch.
After this, he picked up the bundle and carried it to Damien's position at the edge of camp. Reaching the brush, he gently laid the bundle down and, reaching into his belt-pouch, drew out three of the bowstrings and placed them on top of the bundle, for Damien. Then, after dodging the sentry again, he headed back into camp for the second part of his half of the operation.
