Marina's eyes widened in shock and horror as she watched her arrow fly true - straight into Lea's flesh. The urge to vomit knotted hard in her stomach once again, but she managed to keep it from rising as she staggered over to t hem at Monkuta's command. She shook almost violently as she saw the blood from her comrade's shoulder and the pain upon her face, shame and guilt weighing heavily on her small shoulders.
"Lea, I'm so sorry-" She cut herself off from saying anything more for not only was now not the time as more men entered onto the field, but she feared that if she kept her mouth open, she was going to barf all into the woman's wound and she doubted, really doubted her appology would mean much after that. So Marina swallowed the rest of her words and turned with Monkuta to face their new opponents.
There were five of them this time, but they weren't as armored as the others, so she figured that was a plus. Her mind wasn't working well enough to think that they'd be more agile than the previous three and thus more of a threat in their own ways. She simply wetted her lips, almost closed her eyes before forcing herself to open them again, and let an arrow fly a few seconds after Monkuta. She watched as it pierced the side of one of the men, but not enough to down him. Breathing in deep, she quicklly set another one in place and released, sucking in a mouthful of air as it pierced his lung, dropping him to writh upon the ground.

The three men still standing didn't need any more of a signal. They charged from three different directions, running faster than Monkuta could shoot. One lunged at him, feet first, and landed a solid kick to his chest, knocking him to the ground and sending his bow sliding across the ground. Damn...
No sooner had he started to sit up than one of the men, presumably the same one that had kicked him, was in the air above him, a longsword pointed at his chest and coming down fast. He rolled out of the way and unsheathed his saxe knife, slashing at the enemy as he landed. A solid cut across the man's right ankle. The man didn't even seem to notice the wound, or the blood pouring from it. He just kept coming, swinging and jabbing with the sword almost to quickly for Monkuta to react. He felt like an acrobat, ducking and jumping and dodging to avoid the blows.

Lea didn't have any intention of sitting out the battle, but her arm didn't want to work right and she didn't want to move it too much for fear of the bleeding. She pulled out some string from her belt pouch and tied the bandage in place. It was difficult to get tight because it was going around her neck and under her arm and she could only pull it so tight. Maybe it would do for the few minutes this battle was taking.
She looked around and saw that Monkuta was in trouble. She pulled her throwing dagger that had already killed one opponent in the last hour with her left hand. She wasn't as accurate with her left hand, though she tried to train with both.
She waited for an opening when there was little chance of Monkuta dodging in the way and saw her chance as his opponent stood up straight and raised the sword over his head in an attempt to crash it down onto Monkuta's shoulder.
Lea let fly with the knife. It fluttered through the air tip over hilt and struck home with a squelching sound into the man's throat. Her aim had been off. Instead of dead center under the adam's apple, it had hit slightly to the right and nicked the artery and his wind pipe. A whistling sound came from his throat as he dropped the sword and clutched the knife with both hands, a wide look of surprise in his eyes.
The gladiator pulled the knife from his throat and threw it back at Lea, catching her in the left hip as she tried to roll out of the way. His swift movement had caught her off guard and now she saw her own knife patruding from the outside of her thigh. She gritted her teeth in pain and pulled it out and clamped her hand over the wound. It wasn't as bad as the arrow wound, but both were going to hurt for days.
When she looked back at Monkuta, his opponent had sunk to his knees, still clutching in his throat and the light of life faded from his eyes.
She smiled hugely at Monkuta, "That is at least two you owe me!" She laughed and slowly rolled up onto her feet to face the remaining opponents or whatever was thrown at them next.

"That is at least two you owe me!"
Monkuta kicked the corpse in front of him, just to make sure the man was completely dead. One never could be too sure about these things. Yeah... He's dead. He looked around. Lea was standing up; a good sign.
The two remaining enemies saw an opportunity to do major damage and took it. With Lea wounded as she was, they expected her to be an easy kill. Monkuta realized it a split second after they did and rushed to intercept them. They made the mistake, however, of charging her side by side, expecting to overtake her with little effort. He dove for his bow, picking it up and drawing an arrow. He aimed and shot, twice, without really thinking about it.
The two men fell, one bleeding heavily from his stomach, the other from his head. Neither were dead, but they wouldn't be alive for much longer either. With momentary piece, he approached Lea and Marina and sat on the ground, leaning back against his arms. He smirked at Lea nearby and said, "Consider my debt repaid."

Lea swayed on her feet and turned to see the last two men charging down on her. She couldn't use her right hand much at all so she pulled a long dagger with her left. She was out of throwing daggers. She didn't have enough time though to get off a decent throw now. They were too close. She held the dagger in her hand at her side, ready for them as she hugged her right arm to her stomach, her fingers still tingling.
She raised her left arm with the dagger blade lying along her forearm in preparation to block and roll at the first one's swing. At that moment two arrows screamed through the air and struck home, on in each man and they both dropped, alive but in pain and bleeding.
Monkuta sauntered over and plopped down on the ground as if he were at a Sunday picnic and smirked up at her, "Consider my debt repaid."
"Touche!" Lea looked down at him and shook her head in amusement, but the motion threw her off balance since she was rather unsteady on her feet. She wavered for a moment and then fell over and plumped to the arena sand, jarring the arrow wound. Spasms of pain shot down her arm and she gasped and lay back in the sand with her eyes closed trying to marshal her strength to get back on her feet again.
She didn't realize it, but the wound in her shoulder was bleeding profusely, already saturating the bandage she had loosely applied.

Marina stood off to the side, white and shaking with battle sickness. She couldn't get his eyes out of her head, seeing them starring at her, accusing her, slightly different than when he had died. She felt the full blunt of his death on her shoulders, her mind having changed the facts of her acting in self-defense. Her stomach heaved again, but its contents had already been spilled. She trembled with the shock of it, saw blood on her hands when there weren't any, and feverishly tried to wipe it off. But her hands stayed bloody, a permanent reminder; she screamed and collapsed in agony, curling into a heaving ball on the dirt floor.
"Stop starring at me!" She screamed it, then weeped it. "Please. Please, stop. Leave me alone. Please."

Monkuta jumped as he heard Marina's screams. He'd nearly forgotten about her. What was she doing? He ran over to the girl and forced her to stand up, pulling her to her feet by her shoulders. She was in no condition to be here, let alone fight. He looked over his shoulder, back to Lea who was lying down again. He frowned. This had to end now or they were done for.
He gently sat Marina back down again and trudged to the middle of the corpse-filled arena. He felt as if all the day's activities had just begun wearing on him at once. His limbs ached. He shouted up to the stands, "We've given you your entertainment, Rikan! That was the deal. Now let us leave!" He had meant to sound quite fearsome in his demands, but the sudden wave of fatigue had diluted his emotions quite a bit. ___________________________
Llane chuckled and stood from his throne, walking to the banister of his private booth. "You're quite right, Ranger. You've held up your end of the deal with astounding results," he said, loudly enough to ensure that every person in the gigantic chamber could hear him. "It almost makes me want to keep you here forever... However, a deal is a deal. You shall be released. But remember, no one must ever know of our presence here. If our location were to fall into the wrong hands, the consequences could be... tragic."
He clapped his hands twice and a large pair of double doors opened in the arena beneath him. Three large burly men entered the ring and ushered the fighters out. Once they had gone, Llane returned to his throne and sighed. It wasn't every day he got to see fights like that. But alas, he was a man of his word. He took a deep breath and shouted, "Let the next combatants enter the Arena!"
