Welcome to Halt's Playground. It is great to have so many new people on the site. We staff members hope that you are having fun.
In order to make it fun for EVERYONE, we ask you to take a moment to look at the rules on posting in threads.
There is one specific rule that is being mangled by several people on this site:
The minimum length for in-character posts is three lines of text.
and another that is at least being tromped on here and there lately:
Powerplaying and godmoding are not permitted. Powerplaying involves anticipating another character's actions before they post. This includes forced movements, expressions, and dialogue. Godmoding is making your character invulnerable, possessing or inflicting damage beyond what is humanly possible. Essentially it is creating a perfect character.
These two rules are here for a couple of reasons. First and foremost is so that everyone in a thread can understand what your character is doing and have a chance to respond when it is their turn. Another reason is that if your character is superman (can leap over tall buildings and kill a 3000 man army with one swipe of his mighty fist, etc.) or knows everything (just because YOU know what is happening, it doesn't mean your character knows what's happening) other players will soon tire of roleplaying with you because it is very unrealistic.
Please take some time and think about your posts. Read them over 3 times. Ask yourself if you are just responding to the other character or have you set something up in the plot for the other character to respond to?
One or two word posts are NOT ACCEPTABLE! In the rule: "three lines of text" equates to at least 2 full sentances, if not 3 sentences. If you are posting less than that you are not giving the other players anything to work with. And even that is a rather pathetic post. We would like you to put up 3 or 4 paragraphs in each post. (Some forums like this require a 1000 word minimum post. We figured that might be a bit intimidating for some of the younger members, so we set it to 3 lines of text.)
NOTE: That 3 lines does NOT include quoting someone else's post (what someone else's character has said or is doing that some other member wrote). The 3 lines is YOUR original writing.
This is a general encouragement (warning) to improve your posts.
Also know that the staff may start issuing some warnings via private messages if you continue to disregard the rules.
Remember, we want YOU to have fun. We want YOUR Opponents and Allies to have fun too.
Also, this is not just a role-playing forum. It IS a WRITING forum. Many people here are aspiring writers, and everyone can benefit from honing their writing skills with this forum. We can all help each other to become better writers.
So get out there and start WRITING!
