“We had just received word that the ships had landed. God help us all.” The army had been on the warpath for years now, lead by an exceptionally powerful individual that had one goal, total domination of the continent. “It was only a matter of time, we all knew this was his next stop on his path to conquest, which is why we gathered the largest army ever seen. Even larger than when the ancient king claimed this land so many years ago.”
“His army has not known defeat. It's been told that his unholy horde were more afraid of losing for him than dying in combat with him. He has faced the odds of two to one and came out in a near perfect victory. I feel that this is an exaggeration spread by his spy's to plant the seed of fear in the troops of his next intended target. We will stop him here though I just know it! His army is out numbered five to one, there is just no way that he can win!”
“Still, we will ere on the side of caution. Traps have been laid out for his horde to stumble into. It has been said that his troops consist of simpletons to ignorant to know when to surrender. And now we wait behind our fortifications for his army to be spotted.”
“It was very late into the evening when we first spotted one of the scouts. Ugly as sin but as fast as a man on horseback. Our scouts lost the foul creature in the woods. A few hours until dawn was when we saw the first light. It was eerie watching a flame appear one after another. They seemed to be torches, the men seemed to think that they just kept lighting more and more of them. Before long it was as if the edge of the forest had a wall of flame cast on it. Our first trap was already set, we had poured oil and pitch, anything liquid that would burn, onto the ground a couple days ago. All one would have to do is light it and his army would fall like a burnt tree caving in on itself.”
“We watched in surprise and horror as what we thought were torches suddenly get brighter and larger until it looked like the forest had just breathed fire onto the ground in front of it. Our trap was sprung but had no prey in it. How did he know what we had done?! Even while the fire was roaring at us we began to hear another sound, one that shook us to our very core. His army had started to holler and yell, beating their weapons armor and shields together. Any noise they could make they did it was as if the gates of hell had opened and spewed forth an unholy chorus of flesh and steel.”
“It was then that we knew we were doomed, our best trap sprung, our moral abysmal, and our hopes fading along with the fire that had just burnt a path straight to us. Once the fires went out we knew we were all going to die. With the last sputtering flame his army stepped out into the moonlit ash field. They stood there as still as stone staring what seemed like hours right at us. Without warning they all in unison raised their fists to the sky, bellowed out a war cry and charged.”
“This is the end, they are coming...”
