He cursed as she rose, but seeing no other option, he stood beside her. His hand went unconsciously back to his waist only to once again find it empty of his knives. Improvising, he crossed the room to stand by the door, thinking to attack anyone who entered. This way, he'd hopefully be able to take them by suprise. And keep the woman from killing the 'intruder' while he was at it.
He didn't want any bloodshed tonight, Lord knew he'd seen enough of it for a lifetime and the only crime the captain had made, as far as he was aware of, was being a selfish jerk. A crime that justice didn't call for death.
The door opened and he lunged at the man, not giving him time to even let loose a dignified curse. Only it wasn't a man he soon found out as his arm wrapped around her chest. He muttered another curse, but didn't release her, hugging her close to his body as he shot the other woman a glare and wrapped his other hand around his captive's mouth.
"What is it with you?" he asked, blaming the woman for the intruder's gender. "I'm not interested okay? Get over it. And you," he growled at the squirming woman in his arms. "Keep still."
She of course, didn't. He gave her a shake, but that didn't do anything either and he exhaled sharply before shoving her toward the other girl. He gritted his teeth as she let out a soft yelp as she stumbled and he quickly made his exit. He climbed on deck, muttering about his bad luck, and straight into a group of ten drunken looking sailors.
He froze. His hope that he hadn't been seen washed away with the tide as one after another they stood up, hands going to the weapons strapped to their wastes. Swearing he dashed back downstairs, well aware of the blundering sailors behind him.

Kadara looked between all of the sailors, rolled her eyes, then followed after Badger. "You sure do like to run away from your problems, don't you? Come on. I thought you rangers were courageous!" She laughed, twirling the dagger in her hand and paying the sailors following them no attention.

He flicked a glare at her. How had she known he was a ranger?
Ignoring the question for now, he made his way back into the cabin and slammed the door shut. He looked around for the woman and found her curled up in a corner. He shot the woman beside him another glare as if blaming her for everything gone wrong.
He pulled the desk in front of the door before making his way over to the corner and squatting down beside her. He started to open his mouth to comfort her when the banging began on the door. He hauled her roughly to her feet and slung her over his shoulder.
He turned to find the window he'd seen earlier. It was bigger than the other ones and he figured even he'd be able to squeeze through it. Decision made, he opened it and shoved the girl through before climbing through.
Too late, he wondered if she could swim. Wincing as the wood scraped at his back and sides, he wiggled the rest of his body through the opening and landed head first in the water. He swam down instead of resurfacing, searching the water for the frightened woman.
He was hardpressed not to exhale in relief when he saw her and waste the last of his breath. He wrapped his fingers tightly around her wrist and hauled her to the surface. He gulped in air greedily before turning his gaze back to the ship. He didn't care much for the woman with the knife, but he still hoped she'd made it out.

Kadara looked around the room. If I were the captain of a ship, where would I hide the fire? She toyed with the thought and started looking through the drawers and cabinets, ignoring the constant banging on the door. At last, she opened a large cabinet and found flint, tinder and a whole lot of gunpowder. She grinned, laying down a trail of the powder from the middle of the room to a line across the door. Then she sparked the flint and tinder, sending a trail of fire towards the window. She quickly dived out the window, landing in the water beside Badger and pushing him and the other girl beneath the water as the ship burst into flames.

Badger opened his mouth to ask her where she'd been when he took in a moutful of water. He chocked and fought for the surface, dragging the girl with him. He almost forgot to keep himself afloat when he saw the flaming of the boat. He turned on Kadara angrily. "Why'd you do that? They didn't deserve to die! They were only doing their duty!" Man, if he had a knife right now, he didn't doubt that he would have used it.

Kadara rolled her eyes. "Jumping out of a window wouldn't have stopped them from coming after us. Besides, they were all going to die eventually." She started to swim away, but then turned back to Badger. "If it helps you sleep at night, I did it, not you. Now come on. Boat fires usually call some attention from the townsfolk. We should disappear."

Hating that she was right, he swam after her. He was glad she hadn't offered to help carry the woman, didn't want anything that would make him grateful to her. He wanted to get out, grab his stuff, and disappear. His stomach growled then, reminding him that the food in his pockets was now unedible. He'd sleep hungry again tonight. Maybe he should take her upon her offer.
No, he told himself. He had enough problems as it was. And this woman was definitely trouble.

She swam far away from the docks to a small beach, hidden by some docks where they could return to town from without suspicion. Coming onto land, she sat down in the sand, waiting for Badger and the girl to follow after, when they arrived, she said, "Hungry? I've got food and dry clothes back at my place."

He glared at her, but his grumbling stomach gave away his hunger and he looked away in embarassment. He left the woman on the bank and headed toward the woods. He had about a quarter mile hike to where he left his gear. And then he'd head off again, searching for the jerk who'd sentenced him to this hellhole.

Kadara raised a curious brow. She looked at the girl and then at Badger who was already running away. She frowned and shouted after him, "What, is chivalry dead? Just gonna leave her here after giving me that whole speech on how the men trying to kill us deserve to live?!" She sighed. She didn't really care about the girl either. She followed after Badger with ease, sprinting until she caught up. "You need to eat. You need me."

"I don't need you," he grumbled, ignoring her as he charged on. "And that girl is better where she is than if I took her." He didn't care to explain. He just wanted to find a place to bunk down and then sleep away his hunger until morn.
He grabbed his weapons, strapped them on and began to trump once again through the brush...
And right into a camp of meeting men. He froze, muttered a curse for the thousandth time as they all locked eyes on him and the woman at his side, and pulled out his knife.

Kadara raised a slightly annoyed brow at Badger. Then she smirked and said, "Running away, leading me into camps of angry men; I'm starting to think you don't like me, ranger." Sighing, revealed her own dagger, as well as one other that had been hiding in her other sleeve. She walked forward, ahead of Badger and looked over her shoulder. "Well, don't just stand there. I'm a damsel in distress! Protect me!" She laughed and then turned back to the men who, now armed, were slowly closing in around them.

He snorted at her claim of being a damsel in distress. If anything, it was she who kept getting him in trouble. If she hadn't shown up on the blasted ship, he would've had time to get out before the men came back. If she hadn't followed him, he wouldn't have NOT paid attention to where he was going and fallen upon this blasted meeting.
He heaved out a breath and pulled out his throwing knife before stepping in behind her. He'd rather be surrounded with someone at his back than hitting from both sides (his and hers) with no one to fend off those behind him.
He'd just taken his stance when the first man attacked. He'd pulled a sword and in silence had swung it at his head. Badger would've normally just ducked and came up, sticking his knife in his opponent's stomach, but he couldn't now since the blade would just cut into the person supposed to be protecting his back. So he barried the blow and rammed his fist into the man's face. The nose bled, but he doubted that he'd broken it, so he swung his knife out diagonally to try to slice across his neck. His knife snagged empty air and he took a quick step foward to continue his advance when he was blocked off by two more assailants.

Kadara launched herself at one of the men, shrieking in a high, shrill voice as she tackled the man, sending him tumbling into the dirt. She chased after him, leaping onto his chest with feline ferocity and plunging one dagger deep into his heart. She stood up and turned to face the others. She left the dagger embedded inside of the dead man, instead choosing to reach down and reveal another dagger that had been strapped to her leg.

Badger attacked both at the same time, thrusting both knives out toward his targets. His throwing knife dug deep into the man on his left, slicing through his neck as if it were paper. The man on his right had jumped back in surprise, a tatic that ended up saving his life. Badger's aim toward that man's torso had only managed to nag his shirt as he jumped out of reach.
He took a step foward to try again, which also saved his life as a blade nicked his back. He swore as he realized that Kadara had turned on him, or left his back open. Either way, she wasn't on his side anymore.
He dropped to the ground as two blades swung at his head. Rolling to the right, he came back up and immediately spun his right foot in a backwards roundhouse kick and slammed his heel into the back of the man behind him. He completed the spin, placing his foot in front of his other as he watched the man careen into his comrade and into the ground.
He wasn't able to finish either one of them off though as the man who'd first attacked him came at him again. He did duck beneath the blow this time, making a 'u' of his movements. He spun around him and drove his saxe knife into the back of the man's neck. He jerked it back out as the body collapsed to the ground, just in time to see the previous two men rising once again.
