Quite possibly.
I would not call "unassigned" rangers rouges. Rouge has a feeling of being a rebel or outlaw or cast out to it.
I would rather we called rangers not assigned to fief's as "unassigned" or "roaming" or "ranging" or something like that. Otherwise it is too confusing.

okay. srry for the confusion. I seem to cause that a lot now that I think about it. *grin* So roaming rangers are allowed. Are all rangers roaming or can we actually be assigned to fiefs? O.o?

Yeah, I've been wondering 'bout that too. When we first become a ranger, are we assigned to a fief? But there aren't enough fiefs. Definitely not 50.

you can be either - whatever you want. Just don't be assigned to a fief that someone has already picked. (Like Tandar has Meric and Rick has Araluen. I think someone claimed Redmont too, but don't remember who and Jezus claimed Caraway I think.)
Also, The staff is going to have to decide if people can make up names of other fiefs, since the author has not made up all 50 fiefs yet.

I suppose we could always ask Mr Flanagan nicely if he's worked out all the names yet.

Wouldn't that be cool if he answered us?
Wouldn't it be even cooler if he actually reads this site and gets a good laugh out of it?
Grin!

Nah, he wouldn't read the site. Back when the Random House RA website had a forum, there was the topic of fan fictions and it was made clear that Mr Flanagan wasn't going to be reading anything like that in case any of his ideas were similar to ours. But, yeah, that would be cool.

I can understand that reasoning. But it is kinda a bummer. I expect he would get a kick out of some of the stuff on this site.

Yeah, I reckon that he would. It'd also be cool if he did find out about the site and out some sort of hidden reference to it in one of his books.

yeah, that would be nice. I think the official RA site has an ask questions forum on it (though I don't remember for sure since I only have been there once or twice. That is where the maps came from.)
I am thinking that if we want to write in the fiefs on the current maps, that they would have to be recreated in some program (like Photoshop or Illustrator) so that we could add things to them any time we needed to. Plus they are likely the property of someone on that RA site, so modifying them would likely be a copyright infringement.
But mentioning this site in one of the books would be kool!

Or we could just ask for permission. I think that Mr Flanagan wouldn't mind if we modified his original maps, just so long as we asked and gave him credit for them. He might even have a master map with all the details that he might share with us.

I guess it wouldn't hurt to ask. Does he have a "public" email account or fan contact info somewhere?

cool! Better run the idea past Tandar before contacting him, though.

Yeah, it'd look bad if we went over his head.
