Profession: Apprentice Ranger
Appearance:
Filip is a thin, tall, and easygoing young man with frizzy light-brown hair, 'forest green'-brown eyes and relatively small ears. He often wears a ranger cloak shaded similarly to his eyes. He has a narrow face (basically, I mean that he doesn't have a round head), a small scar beside his left eye (which he had since he was cut in a fight a few years back), as well as a dark yet thin mustache and some peach fuzz on his short chin.Personality:
In addition, he has a special gold black and blue belt he wears on occasion, armed with some interesting weapons. These include strikers, black powder, some 'reinforcements' for his recurve should something happen to it, and even a odd-looking lance tip for several uses. When he isn't wearing it, it is usually hidden in a secret compartment of his horse's saddle. He also wears a rather odd-looking red ring with silver and gold markings on it.
Filip of Deephaven is, in most natural circumstances, easygoing and a rather cheerful boy, comparable to Will or Gilan in the RA books. But when angered, threatened, grief-stricken, or just in a bad mood, he changes entirely. He can become extremely dangerous and is almost always full of courage and determination.History:
Filip of Deephaven is, of course, from the small town named Deephaven in south-central Araluen, not too far from Celtica. He was born and raised there until the age of 15, when he moved to a much larger town called Wildeport on the north-western coast of Araluen (Castle Redmont being only about 20-25 miles away). There, he lived for a about 5 months before becoming interested in the Ranger Corps and was evaluated as an Apprentice to a ranger name Boalt.Additional Information:
At first, he was struggling to keep up his rigorous training and didn't think the occupation was right for him. He wasn't Ranger-type, he thought. Yet he decided to continue and persevere. He became more and more determined. Finally, he began to marvel even his master. Both Boalt and Filip started to become tangled in adventures and rough times as Will and Halt had in the RA books, except theirs were very different on most occasions.
Just one example of Filip's and his mentor's countless adventures is the time they returned to Deephaven from the Gathering but found the entire village to be deserted, as well as the castle itself. I won't state all of the details, but Boalt had found torn piece of a black cape. Filip and Boalt found more and more clues that finally led them to a small fort on the edge of the fief, deep in the forest, which is why they had never known of it previously. There were no guards, fortunately, and they entered.
To make a long story short, they found the man behind it all (his name was Richard Willington) and Boalt surprised Richard as he was about to strike down Filip for the way he spoke to him. Almost half of the arrow pierced through back and touched some of his vital organs, killing him almost instantly. They found themselves in a scrap with the guards, but finally made it out of the small fort and returned to the town of Deephaven. Everybody had returned soon after as they had heard the news that the dark man that had forced them to leave the domain and abused was now dead.
This short 'excursion' of theirs could be compared in some ways to the situation of Halt and Horace in Gallica with Deparnieux, although that Halt's was much much longer and difficult.
Now, 16, Filip continues to live his young life as a brave and capable ranger.
He has at least one obvious weakness, and that is getting emotionally injured by someone. That will cause him to become violent, and in situations like this, he can act on impulse and make mistakes. Other times, he might take his time (depending on the situation) and keeps his cool, becoming more lethal than ever. Which brings me to another point; he can be unpredictable at times. This can be considered an advantage in some rare cases (such as being able to use the element of surprise), yet it is often risky in life-or-death circumstances.
His best weapon is his throwing knife by just a slight edge over his great skill with the recurve bow. He is also quite decent in close combat using his saxe knife and has even handled a broadsword, though not as well as one would like.
Filip's horse is named Levitas (a male). It literally means lightning in Latin.
