Rules For the Armored Combat Tournament
The tournament will be a triple elimination tournament, meaning if you lose three matches, you will be eliminated from the tournament. The prize for this tourney is 25 gold coins and a special commendation from the King of Araluen for your prowess with a sword (or whatever weapon) for each category.
1. Sign your character up for the tournament.
STAFF's JOB: The Marshals (i.e. Staff) will determine who is facing off against whom via a Tourney Tree and random drawing. The pairs will be listed at the top of the combat thread. Winners will be listed after each round and new pairings posted for the next round. The first round is a random selection. All subsequent rounds will be based on who one that previous round in that pairing.
ORDER OF PLAY:
The person with the highest die roll will win the match for that pairing.
Players will roll a die (hit the combat button on the reply box) and then add their skill level point to the die roll, then subtract the armor modifier based on the armor their opponent is wearing. Subtract the modifier if your opponent has a shield or weapon in both hands (except for knife fights). They must repeat this until one of them has won three times out of five. Once the winner is determined on the combat thread, players may free-form role-play the outcome on the tournament thread so long as they play out the scene as determined by the die rolls and modifiers.
2. Determine your character's skill level with a specific weapon. Use the table below as a guide:
List your skill level by number when you begin the tournament.
You can have a greater skill with one particular weapon over another particular weapon, so your skill level can change when you change weapon forms.
You may use any weapon form you choose. You may switch weapon forms between Rounds, but you must post that you have done so and state your Skill level with that weapon.
3. State what armor your character is wearing. You may change armor between rounds but you must post that you have done so and state what the armor is if you do so.
4. State if your character is using a shield or is fighting Florentine (with a sword or weapon in each hand).
Exception: Knife fighting- It is assumed that a person will use a knife in each hand during knife fights. Since they do not constitute much defensive protection, there is no need to subtract the shield modifier from your die roll, so knife fighting counts as a weapon in one hand only and no shield for scoring purposes.
5. Take a look at who the marshals have paired your character up with and determine what their armor is. Use the following table to subtract their armor modifier from your die roll:
If your opponent is wearing:
6. Determine if your opponent is using a shield or fighting Florentine and use the following modifier:
*Shields:
*** Special modifiers may be applied in extreme circumstances by the Marshals (i.e. the Staff) on a case-by-case basis.
7. Roll your die (Go to the combat thread for your tournament and post your character's name, the round, and then hit the combat die. Press post and you will see what your character rolled.) Add your skill level to that roll. Subtract for the armor and shield your opponent is using. POST that number with the modifiers below your die roll. Wait for your opponent to do the same. Once both have posted and determined the winner of that sparring match, repeat this process until one opponent has the best three out of five. Three points wins the round. (So once someone has reached three wins, there is no need to continue and you can go to step 8).
8. Then using Free-form, write out the combat on the in-game tournament thread where you signed up your character. Be sure that the outcome of your freeform reflects the outcome of the die rolls. You do not have to strike the opponent in the locations represented on the die rolls. You may write it however you like. Take turns posting just like in regular combat. Do not control your opponent's character.
9. Questions or disputes should be directed to the staff. Keep interactions between players civil, it is only a game! (You may post questions below on this thread.)

2. Determine your character's skill level with a specific weapon. Use the table below as a guide:
- Skill 1-4 Novice: untrained or little skill (no natural ability)
- Skill 5-9 Apprentice: Some training or moderately skilled (natural ability)
- Skill 10-13 Journeyman: trained with some experience or skilled (has a natural affinity to weapon form)
- Skill 14-18 Advanced Journeyman: Highly trained, years of experience or highly skilled (notable natural ability well-above average, possibly famous for it within the trade)
- Skill 19-20 Expert: Super skilled, Extensive Specialized training, (Exceptional or outstanding natural ability)
List your skill level by number when you begin the tournament.
You can have a greater skill with one particular weapon over another particular weapon, so your skill level can change when you change weapon forms.

5. Take a look at who the marshals have paired your character up with and determine what their armor is. Use the following table to subtract their armor modifier from your die roll:
If your opponent is wearing:
- No armor then do not subtract any points from your die roll
- Minimal armor (bracers or greaves or helmet only, or chest armor made of heavy fabric like a fencing jacket or very lightweight leather) subtract 2 points from your die roll
- Moderate armor (full armor made of heavy leather or equivalent protection) then subtract 4 points from your die roll
- Full armor (complete coverage made of studded leather, chain mail, scale mail or equivalent) Then subtract 6 points from your die roll
- Plate armor (complete coverage including helm made of plate mail) Then subtract 8 points from your die roll.
6. Determine if your opponent is using a shield or fighting Florentine and use the following modifier:
*Shields:
- If your opponent has a shield and you do not; then subtract 4 points from your die roll.
- If both combatants are wielding shields or neither combatant is wielding a shield; there is no modifier.
- If your opponent has a weapon in each hand, then subtract 4 points from your die roll (except in knife fighting: do not subtract any points for knife fights.)
*** Special modifiers may be applied in extreme circumstances by the Marshals (i.e. the Staff) on a case-by-case basis.
