Alastair Stormrunner
Age: 15
Gender: Male
Profession: Hopeful Ranger Apprentice
Appearance: Alastair, or Al, as he prefers to be called, is about 5’8”, with a slim but athletic build and tanned skin from his live outdoors. His shoulder-length, sandy brown hair is typically loose when he is around the house, or pulled back into a ponytail when out hunting in order to keep his vision clear. While overall, his expression is often unreadable, his grey eyes speak of the difficulties he has known in his past, and his even greater determination to face whatever the future brings and to achieve his dream of becoming a Ranger.
Personality: Al is a quiet person, usually keeping his thoughts to himself. While confidant in his own abilities, he knows there are people out there far more skilled than he is, and knows better than to overestimate himself. His quiet demeanor comes from the loss of his mother. Since he has had few people to talk to over the past years, he has simply gotten used to keeping his thoughts and feelings inside. While he may seem cold on the outside, however, inside, he longs for someone to talk to, someone to break the monotony of the day. Despite this, he worries how others would perceive him, and finds he has little to talk about even when he does have a chance to be around others.
History: The son of a Skandian father and an Araluen mother, Al’s earliest years were spent running and hiding. His mother had been captured on a raid, but managed to make her escape when Al was five years old, and took him with her. Eventually, she found her way back to Araluen, returning to her home in Seacliff fief, where they had a more or less comfortable, simple life, provided for by her job as a musician at a local bar. Unfortunately, three years ago, when Al was 12, his mother passed away, leaving him on his own. Having been on the run for the first part of his life, he was used to survival under tough circumstances, but the loss still deeply affected him, and he became much more withdrawn. As Al grew older, he discovered he developed an aptitude for archery and concealment while hunting for game.
After once seeing the local Ranger stop a fleeing criminal in his tracks at easily over 150 meters, aiming and shooting in the same rapid movement, Al determined he would someday become an apprentice to such a mysterious cloaked figure. When Al saw the Ranger, he hid himself in some nearby bushes. After the criminal was taken down, he swore he saw the Ranger give a slight nod in his direction, but could not be sure. He considered following the mysterious person, but after a short period thought about the fact that stalking someone who could put an arrow through him before he could blink may very well end up with him dead, and decided that was probably not the best way to find out about the Rangers. He has continued his practice with his bow and concealment/tracking skills, always with the hope of being accepted as a Ranger’s apprentice.
Additional Information: Al always keeps a saxe knife in his belt. This knife reminds him of his mother, who stole it from the Skandians when she made her escape. To Al, it is more than a functional tool and weapon; it is a reminder to never give up, no matter how dire the situation may seem.
