Name: Richard “Rick” Greenriver
Age: 31
Gender: male
Type of apprentice: Silver Leaf Ranger
Appearance: Rick is tall and lean with a wiry build and is very graceful, especially for a man. He has long black hair and high cheekbones with intensely green eyes that give him a hawk-like appearance. His favorite outfit is a pair of soft suede doeskin pants with a tight-sleeved T-Tunic, usually in a dark color with a black leather jerkin over the tunic. He wears his ranger cloak over that and carries a powerful long bow and the traditional ranger knives. He has one set of arrows he napped himself from flint as well as a traditional set of arrows with metal points. He makes all his own arrows, using crow feathers usually for the fletching and stains the shafts very dark brown.
Personality / Attitude: Over the years Rick has learned to hide his emotions, for the most part, but he is actually a fun-loving guy. He takes his ranger job very seriously, but also likes to take time to step away from the job and relax and have fun every so often. He enjoys other people’s company, especially women, and is rarely found completely alone for any length of time. He loves adventure and the adrenaline rush that comes with danger and often takes unnecessary chances because he enjoys it, or to gain some vital information. He has a martyr complex and will throw himself into danger to save another person and always feels he has to help people. He is a powerful friend and ally, but has trouble maintaining any lasting close relationships, preferring to live life fully in the moment and not think about the future too much.
History: Rick grew up on the northeast edge of the Solitary Plains and in the rolling foothills of the mountains that border it. His family moved around with a small group of other families, following the pastureland for their sheep and goats from season to season. He has expert tracking skills, possibly the best in the whole Ranger Corps, that he learned from his grandfather by the time he was 8. When he was twelve the Kalkara attacked his tribe. Only he and one girl from another family survived the attack. They were later found by a ranger and taken to Araluen where he eventually became a ranger apprentice. He is currently assigned to Araluen fief on temporary assignment while the regular ranger for that fief is on another mission.
Other: Rick has a lynx that follows him around, but it is not exactly tame. He found it when it was young and it had been mangled nearly to death by some other animal, possibly a bear. He nursed it back to health and now it seems to think that Rick is its human. The cat usually will not allow anyone except Rick to touch it and it comes and goes as it pleases. It normally will not go into highly populated areas (like cities), preferring to wait until Rick heads back into the countryside to hook back up with him.
It has been a good three years since his first apprentice earned his Silver Leaf, and so Rick is considering taking on another apprentice. He likes the company.
His ranger horse is a lined-back buckskin with four black stockings, black tipped ears and a black nose. The horse is half mustang and half steppe horse, thus giving it an exotic appearance. His horse’s name is Domingo.
