(That is what I do in the SCA - Society for Creative Anachronism. In fact I am doing scriptorium this afternoon after archery practice. Need to go great ready for that too...)

I'm not exactly sure what a scribe does or how to be one... That's why I'm only an apprentice... I only know that they do debates? and a lot of paper work. Sorry...

think of them like being legal secretaries. They write up documents for the King and Barons and then usually the couriers deliver the documents, but not always. Scribes in the RA books are more like lawyers, as far as I could figure from what I read of John Flannigan's work.
If you want me to go into more detail on what they really were like in the middle ages, let me know. But basically they wrote the books. most of them were monks of some type or another. They were also artists (the illuminators) who may only do manuscripts, but some also did portraits and fresco painting. I can get more detailed if you want, but not at the moment. Need to get to bed so i will get up for work.
