How many miles per hour can a steam engine send a railroad train? Same question for steamboats.

Train - in the 1830s, the top speed was 18mph; fastest ever - 96 mph; horsepower goes faster, but you asked for steam, so there you are
Boat - in the 1830s, the top speed was 8 mph; fastest in CA - 11mph...srry, couldn't find the actual...
[Sheesh, what's becoming of me? I actually looked it up. *grin* which uncoded equals - trust it if you will, if not look it up yourself. lol. :-)]

Ja. That's what they're used for - to fly. *grin*. Seriously though, it's a ja. You spiral on the thermals that are heading up, kind of like catching a ride. And if the question was because a lot of people jump off cliffs, you can start from the ground and work your way up. Can't fly them for long - longest time I believe, is 11 hours and the distance was 300 kilometers. Avg. is 3 hours at 15,000'. If you don't believe me: www.all-about-hang-gliding.com/faq.htm *grin*

Did you know that Leonardo Da Vinci made the very first hang glider? He technically "flew" before the Wright brothers did - just not for very long or far - more like the glider slowed his decent, rather than it actually flying.

Okay...
One word of advice, Theramind, don't CAKE Dougal. He'll eat it up.
