"I know!" Emily took the sword carefully. "I used to always watch the knights of Gorlan Fief, although..." She stopped and seemed to blush slightly. "They weren't really good." She shrugged. "It seems really light to me. Wanna go a bout before we leave?" She asked, handing the sword back. "To see what we can do?"

Marcus stood protectively in front of Olivia's door and said softly, "If you do have a round of freindly fighting, do you mind taking it to the practice yard?" he said with a grin, "Olivia might think the castle is under attack and decide she has to run off to the Baron to warn him." Then he realized Skylar wouldn't have any idea what he was talking about and he added, "she is sick and is supposed to be resting, but she has a habit of ignoring things like sleep and food in favor of work."
He didn't want to be harsh or make Emily feel any worse than she did, but he wasn't about to let them go crossing swords in the hallway outside Olivia's room either.
"You know Emily, I bet you could get the Master-at-Arms in Araluen Castle to give you some sword fighting lessons when you get back there, if you really are interested in it," he said thoughtfully. "Gilan and Tandar both are swordsmen. Coming from nobility, they were trained by their families. So it is not impossible for a ranger to know how to use a sword." Then he remembered that King Duncan wasn't really too keen on Emily. "That is he might if you...are 'allowed' to try it." Duncan may have forbidden her to learn sword fighting.

"It seems really light to me. Wanna go a bout before we leave?" She asked, handing the sword back. "To see what we can do?"
Skylar raised an eyebrow at the other girl, she seemed to be a few years older than she was. She reached out and carefully but firmly took her sword back sheathing it in one fluid motion. She wasn't quite sure as to how to respond to that she had fought many people but she had to say she had never fought a ranger before.
Skylar looked back at him and nodded and smiled a little. "I have met Lady Olivia before, when I was fresh out of battle school I was assigned to escort her on a couple of diplomatic missions. I am sorry to hear that she is sick. I enjoyed traveling with her very much." she relaxed her arms. "Don't worry I wouldn't cross blades in a castle let alone at so late an hour." She turned back to Emily. " I apologize Ranger Emily but I don't think now would be best for a practice session. I traveled a long ways and am very tired. Perhaps another time would be better for everyone." she hoped she didn't offend Emily, Skylar didn't really like training with the more unskilled people she didn't want to accidentally chop Emily's arm or head off. She had sliced a couple of trainees back at her feifs battle school on accident none of them had died but ever since then Skylar had swore she wouldn't fight an untrained person again, unless they were harming others. Then she would and without hesitation. Skylar had been told many times that she stuck an imposing figure to some people, her height had been a problem for her growing up, she had been much taller than most of the people in her age group. Skylar was more the silent type but not because she was timid and shy she just liked listening to everyone else and contributed to the conversation when necessary. Skylar was a very go with the flow kind of person once you got past the stern facial expression large muscles and height, if that was in fact your issues on first impressions. Now that she had voiced her tiredness she realized she was exhausted, it had been a long day and tomorrow was going to be another start early end late kind of day as well. She wanted as much sleep as she could manage.

Emily glared at Marcus for a moment and shook her head. She turned back to Skylar and nodded. "Right. I'm sorry. Well, I'll let you get off to bed, unless you want to see what we're protecting exactly." She didn't want this girl to hate her too much for lying about the transport. Although she didn't really care about the other knights not knowing. They would soon enough.

Emily glared at Marcus for a moment and shook her head.
'What?' he thought and gave her a questioning look. Was she mad because he suggested going outside or was she mad because he'd mentioned her being allowed to learn sword fighting. He wasn't sure, but obviously she didn't like something he'd said. 'Oh well,' he thought, 'chalk up another woman who finds me offensive.' He crossed his arms and glared back at her, still determined that she wasn't going to disturb Olivia's rest.
He liked Emily, but it was hard to get to know her. The only thing he did know about her was she switched moods like a willow waving in the breeze. He supposed she had a right to be defensive, given her past, but he was hoping she could get beyond that someday and just be herself.
Skylar seemed to be a sensible woman and Marcus found he liked her. He wondered why she was so keen on this mission though. Did she have some hidden agenda? Well, if she did it was Emily's problem, not his. His problem was how to keep Olivia lying in that bed for the next week. If he could manage three days he was probably doing pretty well. He wished the maids would hurry up so he could go back in the room.

Emily glared at Marcus for a moment and shook her head.
'What?' he thought and gave her a questioning look.
Skylar glanced from one to the other, obviously there was something between the two of them however agreeable the both of them were she didn't really want to get involved. She had to wonder just a little bit about Marcus though he seemed awfully protective of Olivia. He practically barred the door from anyone passing though. Now that she thought about it Olivia HAD mentioned someone from the ranger corps who as she had put it was 'very found of the man however annoying he could be' she had never told her his name and Skylar had never asked. She wasn't keen on prying into peoples personnel lives though she wondered if this was the ranger Olivia had been talking about. It very well could be, there wasn't another logical explanation unless of course Marcus was her older brother. But then again Olivia had said that she was the oldest it didn't really matter in the end as long as she didn't bother Olivia she had a feeling Marcus would be just fine and not want to kill her.
"Right. I'm sorry. Well, I'll let you get off to bed, unless you want to see what we're protecting exactly." She didn't want this girl to hate her too much for lying about the transport. Although she didn't really care about the other knights not knowing. They would soon enough.
"Its all right," she gave Emily a lopsided grin. "Some people are night owls and some people are the early birds. You mean we aren't protecting gold coins?" she had just assumed that it was just some kind of delegation traveling to the capitol to deliver taxes or something. But apparently not she was intrigued now and very glad that she was going. "No I can wait I'm to tired right now and Lucky doesn't like it when I'm out of his sight for very long. I will see you at dawn." she gave Emily a friendly salute waved to Marcus and headed down to the stables to sleep.

Emily nodded at the retreating figure and leaned against the wall. She was crashing from the quick spout of energy that she had had, and she yawned, cursing having to wake up early the following morning. She blinked her eyes and laughed. I must look like a bored sentry, she thought, and laughed again. "So, Marcus," She said, rubbing her eyes. "Are you staying with Liv, or coming with me and Skylar?"

Skylar rolled out of bed or rather rolled out of the hay stack she had used for a bed. She was up before the rest of the soldiers and plucked the hay out of her hair and clothes. She changed her shirt and buckled on her sword. She fed and brushed her horse Lucky then saddled him and led him out to the meeting place. There were a couple of soldiers already there they ignored her and she ignored them. She munched on one of her apples sharing half with Lucky then ate some bread and cheese. She wondered what kind of things she was going to have to do on the mission. Araluen was a long way away from here. They would probably have to fend off bandits, they were still very much prevalent although she herself had done her best to rid the country of them. She scowled at her bread as she remembered her dealings with Mouse that pesky little bandit had cause her more grief and injury than she cared to remember. After this was over she was going to go back and hunt Mouse down and bring her to justice she forced all those thoughts aside and cleared her mind for the task ahead. 'Just one thing at a time Sky just one thing at a time.' she thought to herself. She smiled a little her mother had often said that to her when she wanted to do to many things at once or got really frustrated because she took on to much at once. 'Just one thing at a time Skylar brave bold and talented warrior though you may be you still only have one body just take it one thing at a time.' she had heard that speech so often she could quote it and memorized it maybe she should go visit her parents. It had been awhile since she had paid them a visit and she missed them. She was sure they could still use her help with chores on the farm. Her fathers back isn't what it used to be she could probably chop and stack wood for them and that would be a big help. Hard work was the one thing her mother never had to ask her to do twice, but doing dishes or sewing was a different matter. Her mother had worked hard to get her to be a well bred lady even if she was just a country farm girl. But in vain, her stitches were sloppy when she did dishes she got soap everywhere. She burnt the simplest of dishes but if she asked her to tend the fields to rest her fathers back Skylar would be out in the fields til night fall with no breaks if they didn't tell her to rest. As her mother had surmised long ago she had the makings of a fine knight, she was everything that a knight should be, even be4fore she started training she was defending the helpless and helping those in need she was very proud of her daughter despite what some of the town folk said, they were pretty astonished at how supportive Skylars family was they were still gossiped about in town. Skylar stroked Lucky's neck and spoke softly to her wondering how long they were going to have to wait for everyone else to show up.

"So, Marcus," She said, rubbing her eyes. "Are you staying with Liv, or coming with me and Skylar?"
Marcus answered promptly, "Staying here." His mission to Seacliff was already finished. Since he wasn't assigned specifically to any one fief at the moment, he was perfectly within his rights to send a letter to Crowley and stay in Seacliff and await a reply. While he did that, he would make sure Olivia stayed put and got some rest.
"Someone's got to make sure Olivia sticks around and rests so she can get well." Marcus explained. "You know how she is, always running and never taking care of herself." He sighed. "I aim to keep her in that room for a few days despite her work ethic." He knew that was going to be a full-time job, but he didn't mind. There wasn't any pressing ranger business and his personal code forbid him from putting the job before family, or in this case, very close friends. 'Perhaps even future family,' he mused, forgetting Emily was there. He looked like he was staring at Olivia's door.
Regrettfully he pulled his mind back to the present and looked at Emily, "Besides, you got this assignment, right? You don't need a chaperone. I have every confidence you can handle it all by yourself!" Then he glanced down the hallway where Skylar had retreated. "Especially if that young lady goes with you." He winked at Emily.
He turned back to the door, hearing noises from inside. The maids came out with Olivia's soiled clothing and said she was sleeping and told Marcus to go get some rest. He realized he probably looked a mess, having come straight from the Baron's office hot off the trail. He agreed with the maid and watched her go down the hallway, then he slipped into Olivia's room.
{OOC: Marcus's part in this tale is done. His story and Olivia's pick up in 'Get Better Olivia' on the Araluen board. I won't be posting with Marcus on this thread anymore, so Kallie and Jordyn can carry on from here.}

Skylar sighed heavily. She hated waiting. They'd been waiting for more than an hour weren't they have supposed to have left by now? She was getting antsy she wanted to be on their way. What was taking the ranger so freaking long? Did she over sleep or something? By nature Skylar as a warrior liked doing things like everyone else who was a warrior she hated absolutely hated for something to just happen. She drummed her fingers on her sword hilt if the ranger didn't so up soon she was going to just ride off into the forest to make sure it was clear and actually DO something until the ranger finally decided to grace them with her presence and their supposed cargo. Skylar was more patient than most warriors her age but even this was testing it mightily.

Emily came running out a moment later, her hair in a messy rats nest and pulling on her boots. "Sorry I'm late." She said, running towards the stable. "Late night last night." Pulling her boot on tight and tying it as she bounced on one foot. "They should have the cargo ready by now. I left one of the knights in charge." She got her horse ready and lead her out to the yard. "We leave shortly."

Skylar jumped a little when the door burst open. Instinctively her hand went to draw her sword thinking that it was the prisoner escaping. She relaxed when she saw that it was the ranger.
"Sorry I'm late." She said, running towards the stable. "Late night last night."
Skylar raised an eyebrow and some of the men snickered behind their hands. Emily was like no ranger she had ever met.
"They should have the cargo ready by now. I left one of the knights in charge." She got her horse ready and lead her out to the yard. "We leave shortly."
If that was true then shouldn't the knight have already brought up the cargo? That way they could have been on their way right away? Wouldn't that have made sense? She had assumed that the Cargo should be there with them Emily had said that they would leave at dawn did she? Skylar glanced up at the sky, it was an hour and a half after day break. She sure hoped that their late start kept the pesky bandits at bay. She got to her feet glad that they were finally leaving.

Emily smiled smally at the group. "I heard that," She said, not unkindly. "I'll bet I'm one of the only Rangers you'll ever meet who was late." A man walked up to her horse and said something quietly. Emily cursed under her breath and handed her regins to the man. "Hey, Skylar?" She said. "I could use some help."

Skylar got up from where she had been sitting and dusted off the seat of her pants. She rubbed Lucky's nose, he shuffled his feet a little, impatient to get moving just like is mistress.
"Hey, Skylar?" She said. "I could use some help."
Skylar raised an eyebrow wonder what the ranger would need her help with. With a shrug she told Lucky to stay, he snorted and shook his mane in acknowledgement. Then she strode over to the ranger. "What can I help you with Ranger Emily?"

Emily shook her head and gestured for Skylar to follow her. "The cargo we need to deliver is missing. Like it escaped, missing." She sighed. "I should have done this myself." She muttered.
