I think J. Flannigan is probably just steering away from religeon in the books, but the real middle ages were ruled by the church in Europe. You could not get married or be buried without the church's blessing. Had to get your fields blessed to plant them and to harvest them, registered births with the church.. etc. Even commerce was often done with the blessing of the church.
But as to this game, it used to be in the rules to stay away from religeous debates because they generally degenerate into major arguments.
If your character wants to practice a religeon, in the interest of reality, I would think it would be ok if you keep it low-key and don't go around "preaching" or starting any debates on religeon. (Hopefully Tandar agrees)

Wouldn't do that even if I followed that religion. Belief in Freedom above anything else.
But is it okay to make up our own religion as long as we don't preach it? Or do we just have to grab at what there already is? And can we place a major religion with each country? If so, can the Skandavians be Norse?

If we're acting under the assumption that Araulen operates under some interpretation of the European Church of the Middle Ages, we should have a name for it if JF didn't classify.

I would think it would be ok to do what you want as far as religeon as long as you keep it to a minimum in the posts. If anyone objects to the staff, we will let you know.
Don't be too graphic on any "sacrifices" to gods or anything like that! Grin!
Yes, I would say he modeled Skandians after the Norse or the Vikings. Take your pick.

What about the Teutlandts?
And Gallica would just be a mix since everyone seems to be doing their own thing there anyways, ja?

I don't think that Araluen really has a religion. It's hinted at in "The Burning Bridge" when (someone) says that "The Celts have (or is had?) their own gods of fire and iron", and they do use "God", "Godspeed", etc in their vocabulary, but that doesn't mean that they have a god. I know a lot of atheists who use the word "God", and I'm thinking that Araluen may have had a god in the past but they have since gone away from worshipping him/her. Temples and/or churches haven't been mentioned to the best of my knowledge, and this would probably have come up in the eight books we have so far at least once if there was any relatively widespread worship of a god/s.
I also get the impression that the main characters are somewhat doubtful/scornful towards the various other religions we are introduced to in the book, although this might just be from cynicism and not because Araluen is a nation of atheists.
Just my two cents.

It just feels weird having a whole country of 'atheists'. Not that I have anything against atheists since my 'religion' is a little eh...idk, but to have no one believe in something kind throws me off. I mean, if they're not advanced in science and thus have no answers, wouldn't they be making them up as they age? Like why the sun rises, the stars shine, it rains, ect. ect.?

I don't think we should go with a "lack of evidence is evidence" approach on this. There could easily be Araluenian scientists.

I think that Araluen has its own religions, just that they were different from ours. They would believe in different stuff, or even a mixed-up religion from ours. Something like mixing Christianity and I dunno, Buddhism?

About the religions? Or what type they should be 'based' after?

The series is based off of Europe, scientifically, historically and geographically. If we were to assume a religion, it should be pretty Catholic heavy.
