Cutebabys walked silently behind the two people. He had known rangers were dangerous, but assassins were dangerous too. He held his bow in his hand. Rangers knew how to shoot well, but so did he. He could even shoot with his left hand, just not that accurate. He was outnumbered but he felt pretty confident. One was only a kid, he thought. But he was a ranger's apprentice! He didn't know what to think. He had a backpack slung over his shoulder. There was nothing much he could do... except follow behind until Ben left Dalin. Cutebabys followed behind, stopping as they had stopped. He wondered what the reason was. Then he saw. He felt like laughing but could control his emotions. The boy had fallen asleep!
[Hey can you do something? Dalin just fell asleep!]

Ben followed behind his apprentice, and allowed his mind to wander. He was going to be the laughing stock of the Gathering. The bright thought was, he'd be able to pay Crowley back for it all. Definitely--. NOW where was he? You couldn't take your eyes off that kid for a second, not even to get some shut-eye! He sighed, hiding the growl underneath it. "Dalin..." He paused in mid-step. What had he just heard? Footsteps? He gave a mental sigh. If Dalin were trying to stalk him now....., he slowly brought his right hand up across his chest,... he was going to pay.

Dalin woke up. He knew he had fallen asleep and lagged behind, but he had no idea how. Well, that doesn't matter. He realized that Ben was getting further and further away from him. He shouted loudly,"Wait for me!" And he ran to Ben, making a lot noise on the way. He gasped breathlessly at Ben, saying, "Can we stop? I'm tired and sleepy and hungry."

Ben was about to lash out, when he heard Dalin's distant shout, "Wait for me!" He scowled as he dropped his hand to his side, and turned as Dalin came crashing noisily up. "Can we stop? I'm tired, and sleepy, and hungry." Ben frowned at Dalin. "So....Your tired AND sleepy.....And hungry. You want to stop......You just made enough noise to wake the dead." He stared at his apprentice, not letting his exasperation with him show. "Half an hour. Be quiet. THEN we stop."

Dalin nodded. "All right." They walked on and on. Dalin couldn't stand it any longer. He asked, "Has thirty minutes passed?"
Cutebabys followed behind. He heard the exchange between them. Good, if they stop I'll have a chance to slip this Shadeplant into his food. He was going to kill them. After all, he had been ordered to do so. Not feeling any sympathy for them, he followed. Then, he realised he would only be killing the apprentice. The mentor wouldn't be so stupid. Sighing, he resolved to think of something else.

Whoever it was, they were still there, following them. On the bright side of things, Dalin was being quiet-- "Has thirty minutes passed?" Ben rolled his eyes. 'Til now'. He took a deep breath, waited a few seconds, and then said slowly, "No." which wasn't true, but if Dalin didn't know how much time had passed, Ben was going to make the most of it. Besides, he wanted to see how long this person would follow them.

Then Dalin remembered something. He looked at the sun. It had set sometime earlier. Pity he didn't bother to check what time it was just now. Anyway, he stomped on, acting childishly. [OOC: Making it difficult for Ben to hear Cutebabys. Can't have him finding out too soon, right?]
Cutebabys wasn't stupid. He knew thirty minutes had passed. There was a reason why Ben hadn't stopped. He knew Ben was almost as tired as Dalin. [OOC: Not controlling you character, am I?] He had walked as long as Dalin had. Ben knew he was here. It struck him as obvious. Then he realised that something was making a huge noise. Realization struck him. After everything Ben had done, Dalin was throwing a tantrum! Emotionless as he was, or appeared to be, he knew that was NOT a smart thing to do. If it were him, he would have left the boy there in the forest.

Dalin looked up but then stomped away. Ben ground his teeth together, and tried to hold his own temper in check. If he said anything to Dalin about the noise he was making, Dalin was sure to reply, and Ben was pretty certain that he would lose his temper and do something rash. It was already a struggle not to strangle the kid. Why couldn't he have just left the brat with those two men---. And speaking of which, he could no longer hear the footsteps behind them--mainly because Dalin was making more noise than a whole herd of cows.
He sighed and continued grinding his teeth together, while listening for any sound of the stalker behind them. And comforting himself with the thought that, if they got out of this alive, he was going to kill a certain pair of people he knew.

Dalin decided to stop. He was a good kid, really, only he was cranky. He felt sorry for his mentor. "Sorry." He muttered. "Thanks for saving me. I thought I was dead. But... can we stop now?" He couldn't help it. He just had to annoy his mentor one last time. He crept quietly behind his mentor, no longer making any more noise.
Cutebabys stalked them silently. Very. He couldn't risk being heard again. Anyway, he was great at unseen movement, one of the best in the Guild, his skill was that of an average Ranger, or even better.

When the noise stopped, Ben thought for a moment that he'd gone deaf, then realized that Dalin had stopped. Wonderful. Now maybe-- "Sorry." Dalin muttered from somewhere beside him. "Thanks for saving me. I thought I was dead. But... can we stop now?" The kid was apologizing? He must have hit his head or something, he'd never apologized to him before.
Ben didn't stop to ponder why this miracle had happened, though. He kept walking, listening for those footsteps he'd been hearing before, but now the kid was behind him and, while he was being much quieter and more carefully, his footsteps drowned out the others. "In about an hour we'll be coming to an inn-- we'll be stopping there for the night. Think you can hold out that long?" Ben did his best to remove the sarcasm from his voice when he asked, but was only mostly successful.

"Finally." Dalin, like his mentor, had tried to remove all sarcasm from his voice. It wasn't Ben's fault and Dalin could see Ben was trying to get along with him. So he said,"Yeah well, all right." He said, in a low voice, having learnt his lesson. He continued to trudge after his mentor.

One hour and five minutes later, Ben glanced up and saw the lights of the inn through the trees. Dalin had stayed behind him the entire time, and had apparently decided to remain quiet as well, for Ben hadn't heard a word from him since Dalin's reply concerning the inn. Despite that, Ben had only been able to detect their hidden disciple a few times-- the person was about as good as some Rangers, Ben decided.
"Well, here we are. the inn." Silently, he added,'The one we were supposed to reached in time for lunch.'
