"Your not my mother, Mouse." Emily said, smiling. She whistled and Spirit came running down the hill he was on, and to Emily. "In my saddle bag there should be a first aid kit." I was wrong, she thought, A sword thrust to the leg really does hurt a lot.

Karel made for the last bandit standing. His left axe rested on his right shoulder and his right axe hung loosely in his dangling right arm. It was a defensive stance meant for blocking and quick unexpected counter attacks. As the two danced the bandit lunged for Karel but after seeing what happened to the previous bandit, this one was wary and didn't overextend themselves. This played out for several blows, the bandit unable to get passed Karel's defense and Karel not able to finish the fight in one lightning fast stroke.
She whistled and Spirit came running down the hill he was on, and to Emily.
When Emily whistled the bandit turned to face the new threat, which was a phantom. Their face sunk when they realized that they had made a grave error. Taking the distraction as a boon, Karel swept the bandits legs out from under them with a low tripping maneuver, nearly taking the leg off at the knee. As the bandit fell Karel continued his spin from the trip and lifted himself, using the momentum he planted his axe right into the bandit's chest crushing it and destroying their heart. The bandit was dead before they hit the ground.
Karel quickly took in his surroundings and not seeing any more threats, he asked, "Are you two alright?" He noticed that Emily had a gash on her leg and the Mouse was taking care of her as Emily's horse wandered over. He then sheathed his axes and went over to retrieve his hand crossbow. He stowed the weapon and walked back over to the ladies.
"Either of you know why they were following you?" Karel asked and started looking over the bandits corpses. He spotted a couple coin pouches and gathered them up. The gear they were carrying didn't seem worth lugging so he left them alone. Then stood waiting for a response from the girls.

I'm not pretending to be I owed you a favor for saving my life once i'm merely repaying that favor now we are even and I owe you nothing." Mouse said matter of factly then reached for the kit. She found with she needed and threaded a needle. "This will hurt." she said and with that warning she started stitching up the wound. "They were following me because I have a large bounty on my head. They merely caught Emily because she was skulking after me." Nissa wasn't quite sure how she felt about the whole situation, if you wanted to be technical now she owed this man Karel a favor cause he saved her sorry hide. of course she wouldn't bring it up if he didn't she didn't like owing people favors. She was a bandit she shouldn't have that much decency but for some reason she did. What she didn't appreciate was Emily constantly coming after her it was getting bothersome, she had left Meric fief to get away from her as well as the ranger of the feif. Well here she was bleeding no less, she jut didn't understand it.

''Crowley was right,'' Emily said after great length. ''Getting a sword thrust into your leg really does hurt.'' She smiled. ''Hi, stranger.'' She said looking at Karel. ''I'm Emily, the grim-faced person over there is Mouse, and I thank you for shooting those bandits.'' She was playing a game she was taught by Crowley. Just keep em talking. They may say too much and give you information.

"They were following me because I have a large bounty on my head. They merely caught Emily because she was skulking after me."
"I see," Karel said plainly. He then felt the weight of each of the three coin pouches he had just acquired and tossed one to each of them. "Call this hazard pay," he said with a blank, bored look on his face.
''Crowley was right,'' Emily said after great length. ''Getting a sword thrust into your leg really does hurt.''
She smiled. ''Hi, stranger.'' She said looking at Karel. ''I'm Emily, the grim-faced person over there is Mouse, and I thank you for shooting those bandits.''
Karel perked up at the mention of Crowley. 'Was she trained by him?' he thought. 'That old fox was sly if she is his pupal then she must be trying to stall for something, better keep my distance and see how this plays out,' making sure he kept a detached look about him. "... Jack, Cyclone Jack. Don't thank me. I just can't abide useless slavers and bounty hunters. Besides I assumed they had coin, I wanted it..." He said no more and was ready to sprint off into the underbrush at a moments notice.

Emily smiled calmly. ''If there were anymore Rangers here, they wouldhave come out of hiding by now.'' Her smile turned into a wince as she tried to sit up. ''Then again, I'd be a Royal if you two trusted me.''

Nissa looked at the bag picked it up and tossed it back to him. "Thanks but no thanks." she stood up after seh finished tying the edges of the bandage on Emily's leg. Completely ignoring the other two she looked around and found her weapons she put her bow on her shoulder and started inspecting her arrows with an expert eye, some of them had been snapped in half in the attack. But some of them were good. She smoothed out the fletching and hooked the quiver to her belt. Then she searched the bandits for her knife she had of course the one in her boot but she had recently acquired another good dagger that she had taken to wearing around in a sheath on her belt. She found it and slid it into place satisfied. Next she went over to the girl bandit and ripped a necklace from around her throat, it was a simple enough cord with a simple but beautifully designed pendant at the end. She retied it around her neck and gave a little nod satisfied that everything was in its proper place.

Karel snatched the coin purse out of the air and eyed it, 'She's an outlaw, yet she doesn't want what is her's?' he questioned.
Emily smiled calmly. ''If there were anymore Rangers here, they would have come out of hiding by now.'' Her smile turned into a wince as she tried to sit up. ''Then again, I'd be a Royal if you two trusted me.''
She was right he didn't trust her, rangers were not to be trusted in the game of wits.
After Mouse was done collecting her things and inspected them Karel once again tossed her the coin pouch saying, "That's yours now, take it or leave it. I don't care which but I'm not taking back your share."
They both were odd to him. An outlaw with standards, similar to himself in a sense, and a ranger that knew about outlaws like she had been one once or was a really good study in their ways. Either way the ranger must have been sent out here after Mouse for one reason or another and Karel was a little curious to find out why. It appeared that they knew each other to some degree. An outlaw and a ranger being acquainted? That was new and unheard of to him. He wanted to know more about this relationship, maybe he could apply it to a couple other rangers so the pressure would ease off when he robbed places. It might be a good opportunity for the rangers since he never killed during a burglary. The only ones he killed were bounty hunters and only when they tried to kill him. A very slight smirk appeared on his face for an instant, the gears turning in his head.

Mouse caught the bag and was tempted to just drop it on the ground and walk away. What did he mean her share? She hadn't really done anything had she? Not in-particular. She hefted it and listened to the sound of the coins clinking around as she thought. Well they were dead it's not like they were going to come back from beyond the grave and hound her to give the money back. They HAD captured her after all it was her right to take it from them So why was she hesitating so much? She supposed it was the odd circumstances, she hadn't robbed them, nor had she killed all of them then she made up her mind. Not taking the money would be foolishness she needed the coin for food and some more supplies for her arrows. With a shrug she tied the pouch to her belt rather liking the feel of the weight there. Then she decided she knew why she had hesitated, it was Karel. She hesitated because she didn't know his motives, why was he giving her a share when he could have kept it all himself? And there was always the possibility that he would come after her later and kill her in her sleep. Some bandits she knew did that to their comrades pretended to be fair so that they could have all the advantage and not have to duel out a fair fight. She eyed him a little suspiciously, perhaps he was planning to do just that. But he had ore weapons than she did, physically he could over power her easily so she supposed perhaps coming after her to kill her didn't make sense after all. he could kill her now he also could have left her to fend for herself with the bandits. But fact of the matter was he had saved her skinny butt and let her have some of the loot. She had a bandits heart and mind and didn't think for a moment that he had actually done any of that out of the goodness of his heart. She jumped to the next logical conclusion, he wanted her to owe him a favor. And as she had speculated earlier she hated owing people favors especially other bandits or complete strangers because you never knew what they were gong to ask. She shifted her stance crossing her arms over her chest but kept her stance non aggressive, her expression gave nothing away and her gaze was cool and calculating as she looked at Karel. Mouse was not a very talkative person so she said in as few words as possible. "If you are trying to get me to owe you a favor hear this now, i'd rather you have all the money. I don't hold favors to no strangers. Nor will I keep y word should you force me into a deal unless you have some other means of convincing me. I have no qualms in killing you as I'm sure you have no qualms in killing me."

Emily, with the help of Spirit, had climbed to her feet, holdinf onto her saddle. '' Maybe we should calm down a little.'' She said, sensing the rising tension in the air. ''I'll make coffee, if your willing to stay and chat.''

He stood there for a second and with his bored detached look replied, "I told you already, the coin is yours to do with what you will. The only favor I ask is that next time we meet, if it's during business, we stay out of each others way, savvy? This way neither of us owes the other anything. You are, however, wrong I would have qualms about killing you just like I had qualms about killing them," he gestured to the corpses on the ground, "It might not look it but I care not for killing, but if it is necessary I will do it even if I don't like it. That is how I have survived." He rested his hands on his hips just an inch or so from the throwing knives in his belt. He might not like to kill her but if it came to it, he was no fool, and would be ready for her with an underhanded toss of a blade.

He spoke to Emily without taking his eyes off of Mouse, he felt she was the larger threat at that moment, and said, "I do not drink coffee, gives me the jitters." He stayed there however, he wasn't going to turn his back to Mouse. He had qualms about killing her, though he seriously doubted the feeling was mutual.

Mouse stood there and simply stared at him. Her expression didn't change neither did her posture or her stance. The only thing she did do was blink. She considered his words carefully analyzing them in her head. She noticed his hands moved to his hips, her eyes flicked to the knives then back to his face. Most people would have been impressed she remained as cool as a cucumber throughout the whole exchange. A lot of hot headed bandits would have taken his words for a challenge and attacked but Mouse was not a hot head she was a thinker and a doer but didn't let her anger or her emotions fuel her actions unless she absolutely had no choice. Her shoulders gave a slight lift before falling back down in a shrug that annoyed a whole lot of people. "Understood." she said in reply to him. Weather she was acknowledging his qualm about killing people or his request that they stay out of each others way she left that for him to decide. Then without taking her eyes off him she said to Emily. "I hate coffee. And rangers. I'll die before I dink coffee with one." She didn't care for Emily but she respected her as she respected this man Karel. He was an impressive fighter and supposed he wasn't all that bad as far as bandits went anyway. But of course she would never tell them that, if they were to stupid to see it for themselves in her actions well then that was their problem not hers.

Stop......stop......stop fighting! Emily wanted to yell. But, she realized, resignedly, that it would shatter tue fragile trunce they had. So instead, she had Spirit walk to the center of the area, and sat down. '' Come on, guys.'' She said, smiling with easy warmness. ''Unless you want to fight it out, then I won't stop you.''

Karel watched through the corner of his eye as Emily walked up with her horse and sat down right between himself and Mouse. "I am growing tired of this, what about you Mouse?" He studied her mannerisms trying to get a read of her. She certainly didn't seem as keyed up as she was. Perhaps she didn't want a fight, which was good neither did he. "How's about this we all place our weapons down and catch our breath for a moment. Maybe even figure out who these people were and make sure there aren't anymore, so we don't run into this group again. If you agree then we move at the same time nice and slow."

Mouse's eyes flicked from Emily to Karel and ever so slowly her mask of indifference faded away and a very amused smile broke over her hardened features. It put a twinkle in her eye then her shoulders began to shake and finally a strangled sound escaped her lips her arms fell to hold her stomach as she laughed. She laughed so hard that she fell to her knees, for the first time in a long time Mouse was truly amused and if they knew her they would have been amazed at the fact that she would respected them to let her guard down and laugh. Once she got herself under control she pointed a finger at Karel. "You should have seen the look on your face! You were so serious! If I had wanted to kill you, you'd already be dead!"
