(Takes place in Greenfield Fief, the year 658) Emily sighed as she stooped to study a trail more closely. She disliked this trail greatly. It seemed to obvious, to say the least. She stood up straight, and looked around. Why would you come this far, little Mouse, she thought soberly as she mounted her horse-Spirit-and rode slowly, following the trail. She had stopped helping the Mouse after the argument that they had had, leaving the other girl with a scratch, and Emily a black eye. Maybe it's a trap. Spirit seemed to say, as he shook his mane. She is good at that. "I know. Tell me if you hear any noise." Besides you? "Besides me."

The trail Emily was following Nissa had made a couple of days before and she had been on the run from another bandit gang. Now she was on the run again they were chasing her through the dense forest, she was losing the chase rapidly she didn't know the forest as well as she she did Meric or Gorlan. She was miles from where Emily was and if she had known that Emily was there she would have for once been incredibly grateful to see her. But she didn't know and she was to far away to help Mouse this time. "GOTCHA!" The bandit grabbed her around the waist and they fell to the ground. They rolled around in the dirt as Nissa squirmed and twisted trying to get free. It was no use more bandits came and helped the first. "Hey look at this!" exclaimed the bandit who had caught her once Nissa was tied up nice and tight. She glared at him. "We caught ourselves the famous Mouse!" Mouse would have given him a what for but they had gagged her as well so she settled for a nice heart felt glare.

Emily never notice the second set of tracks on the trail. She was scanning the tree lines beside and in front of her, to make sure she didn't run into any unpleasant surprises. Unfortunately for her, her luck was very bad that day.

Nissa struggled against the ropes but they held together she couldn't budge them. The men around her laughed, the leader picked up her bow and tested its draw weight she saw his eyebrows lift in surprise. He didn't expect the draw weight to be so high he glanced over at her although it did explain her bulging biceps. It was the middle of summer so Nissa was wearing a vest with nothing underneath her arms and shoulders were exposed. He picked up an arrow from her quiver and inspected it again he was surprised at the quality of the arrows, everyone knew that the famous Mouse made her own arrows and was almost as accurate with a bow as a ranger. She could stalk you like one to. "These are just so nice I think I will take them for myself." her glare was pure ice and venom, a shiver went down his spine but he didn't show it. He turned to the rest of his group of five. "We'll stop here for lunch then continue on back to camp."

Emily found the gang at midday. Merde! She thought. I've gotten myself outnumbered....again! And if they find out my identity.....I am dead. She left Spirit in the trees and slowly walked around the camp. She froze when one of the bandit's gaze passed over her. She didn't dare breathe. The bandit shifted his gaze and she moved a little. "A Ranger!" One of the bandits shouted and pointed in her direction. She had been spotted.

"A Ranger!" One of the bandits shouted and pointed in her direction. She had been spotted.
Nissa looked to where he was pointing and two thoughts rushed through her mind. 1: YES! A ranger will give them a thrashing and lock them up. 2: Crap I will be put in jail with them. Crap. She had to options: 1: Help the ranger. 2: sit and do nothing and be not really so innocent innocent bystander. Well there was only way to find out if she had a fighting chance. Help the ranger, they might not recognize her and she could pull off that she was just an innocent traveler passing through when she had gotten jumped by bandits. She could even cry she loved it when she cried she really felt it sold her lie with a nice pretty ribbon. When one of the bandits by her moved toward the ranger she stuck out her foot which was not tied and tripped him. he fell on his face in the dirt and he looked over at her, her eyes practically gleamed smugness at him. The leader picked him up and hissed in his ear. "Let it go we have a bigger problem. Go around the back we'll surround them do NOT make a sound." the bandit nodded and did as told. Only two remained by Nissa to make sure she didn't escape the rest of the band converged on the ranger. They surrounded her their bows were out and arrows pointed at her. "Do you surrender Ranger? Or do we have to take you by force?" asked one his arrow pointed directly at her heart. They were all within ranger of her but far enough away that she couldn't touch them unless she threw one of her knives. If she so much as went' for her bow they'd all shoot and she would be dead.

"Do you surrender, Ranger? Or do we have to take you by force?" Emily looked at the arrow aimed at her heart, and silently dropped her knife. She was happy that she remembered the bandana that she tie around her mouth and nose to keep the bottom of her face hidden. She had learned long ago that people didn't react as bad as they did if her face was concealed. She was nervous, though she didn't let her eyes belie that to her captors. She was worried that they'd kill her offhand for being Morgarath's daughter. Plenty of people had known what he'd looked like, so maybe they'd pick her out like that. She saw Spirit crest a ridge and she made a movement that looked like she was scratching her head. It really told Spirit to stay close, but out of sight and silent. "No need for unpleasantries," She said, and allowed her hands to be tied behind her back. She prayed that they would leave the bandana in place, but she had no such luck. "What do we have here?" One of the men said and walked up to her. As much as she squirmed, she couldn't escape the hand. The man grabbed the bandana and pulled it off of her face and smiled. The smile never reached his eyes, she noticed. "Boss, we caught Morgarath's kid." Emily's mind was racing. They can't have discovered that so quickly. Unless....No! Gilan killed him a long time ago. How do they know that I'm Morgarath's kid? She struggled against the ropes, which only confirmed the fact. She saw the gang of bandits smile at each other and knew she was in trouble.

Nissa was surprised when they dumped Emily next to her. What was she doing here? She was supposed to be all the way in Meric fief! What on earth was so doing here? And why the hell had she let herself be captured? It didn't make any sense! The leader came over and pulled the bandanna down from Emilys face. "Hey guys what do you think? Should we kill them both? Or should we kill the ranger and get the bounty for Mouse?" Some of them shrugged but a girl spoke up. "I think we should turn in Mouse we could use that money." "And the ranger?" she shrugged. "string her up and let her get free." "Thats stupid. she knows what we look like." "Not stupid Derek, how kindly do you think the rangers will treat us if we kill one of their own? They'll specifically go after us one by one." she replied. "At least we won't risk instant death if we just leave her to get free on her own." The leader was silent for a little but thinking he nudged Emily with a boot. "Hey you ranger what are you doing here? You ain't the ranger of this fief." he didn't really think she would reply but it was worth a try. They hadn't gagged her and he wanted to know why she was wearing a bandanna to like a bandit. It didn't make sense really. She was a curiosity to him.

Emily sat up slowly. She glared at the gang's leader and shrugged. "Steal from the rich, give to the poor gig." She lied. "Comandment' s orders." She looked around. Why are they asking me pointless questions? I'm a Ranger, they know that. She looked over at the Mouse. "Nice to see you again, Nissa." She said. "You know, I thought bandits where supposed to be on the same side as each other. Not fighting one another." Keep your captor talking, Halt's words rang in her head. You might talk to him long enough for back-up to get there. And play their game. You never know when they might just kill you. "He has a point." Emily said to the girl. "But, yet, so do you. I used to know a man named Robin. Called himself Robin Hood. Used to steal from the rich, give to the poor. Until he got hanged for theft." She shrugged again. "And if your wondering about the bandanna, I'm sorry, but not telling you why I wear it. It's a secret." She saw that had gotten their attention and smiled to herself.

Following bandits is usually an easy task when they are in large enough numbers since they don't bother to conceal their whereabouts. That is what 'The Cyclone' was counting on. He had heard that a group of bandits had recently scored big and Karel wanted a piece of that pie, if not the whole thing if he could get it. So after following the brigands for a day or so they lead to another set of tracks, 'Odd,' he thought, 'they seem to be following whom ever these tracks are now.' After a while he noticed that there was a third set of tracks this time horse tracks, meaning this third party was either a traveler or possibly even a ranger. A slight shiver went up his spine. Still he had a mission and some robbers needed robbed. He continued after the tracks when he heard voices, with that he dropped to the ground and belly crawled to where he could see who was talking.
"Do you surrender, Ranger? Or do we have to take you by force?" "No need for unpleasantries." "What do we have here? Boss, we caught Morgarath's kid." "Hey guys what do you think? Should we kill them both? Or should we kill the ranger and get the bounty for Mouse? I think we should turn in Mouse we could use that money. And the ranger? String her up and let her get free." "That's stupid. she knows what we look like." "Not stupid Derek, how kindly do you think the rangers will treat us if we kill one of their own? They'll specifically go after us one by one. At least we won't risk instant death if we just leave her to get free on her own." "Hey you ranger what are you doing here? You ain't the ranger of this fief." "Nice to see you again, Nissa. You know, I thought bandits where supposed to be on the same side as each other. Not fighting one another. He has a point. But, yet, so do you. I used to know a man named Robin. Called himself Robin Hood. Used to steal from the rich, give to the poor. Until he got hanged for theft."
While hearing this exchange Karel noticed the two women bound and gagged. The one was the Mouse and the other was Emily! He had encountered them in the past and it looked like they were in trouble. Now the Mouse he respected and so long as she didn't stand in his way they were like business associates but the ranger he owed, she had let him go after she captured him and found out that he stole mainly to fund an orphanage. A one time deal he was sure of but this time he had the opportunity to balance the scales and maybe even have her owe him a favor.
As they were still conversing he edged closer to the brush line and readied his hand crossbow and a throwing dagger. If he was lucky he could take down two of them quickly and level the field a bit.
"And if your wondering about the bandanna, I'm sorry, but not telling you why I wear it. It's a secret."
With that last phrase the bandits all turned intrigued to face Emily. This was it! his chance had come and he took it with a vengeance. He aimed for the two farthest away from him to make it seem the attack was coming from the opposite direction. Once loosed his bolt shot out and stuck half way out of one of the bandits necks. At the same time he flung his dagger with everything he had. It landed in another bandits eye socket. After this quick event he hid in the brush for a split second to ready another bolt and drew one of his axes. Today was going to be a 'Bloody crows!' kind of day.

The lead bandit highly doubted that she was sent here to steal from the rich and give to the poor. That was totally NOT what rangers EVER did. He sneered at her and was about to demand she tell him the truth when two of his men fell, on with a crossbow bolt the other with a knife. He glanced around as he pulled out his sword the rest of the group followed suit. "I knew we shouldn't of taken the ranger. I told you it was a bad idea!" "Hush!" "There in the bushes!" Nissa swiveled her head and took the opportunity of their distraction to break free. She gave her hands a final twist and pull finally slipping them out of the ropes bringing her hands to the front she launched herself at the nearest bandit. Wrapping the rope around their neck and bringing them down to the ground where she knocked them out with her elbow.

Emily army crawled to one of the fallen bandits, ignoring the smell of blood. She sat up turned around and tried to reach for the sword. When she got it, she turned it around and slammed it into the ground the best she could and started to cut throughout the ropes.. A few minutes later she was free and she took the sword in a two handed grip. "Anyone want to play a game?" She asked.

"I knew we shouldn't of taken the ranger. I told you it was a bad idea!" "Hush!" "There in the bushes!"
This was his que. Karel burst forth from the brush and launched his second bolt, but they were ready for him and the bandit ducked out of the way. Before he even saw if his bolt struck true Karel dropped his hand crossbow and pulled out his second axe in a single motion. Advancing menacingly with a maniacal grin Karel moved towards the three left standing. One of them thought it would be a grand idea to charge Karel since swords usually bested axes, this was a poor choice. As soon as the bandit lunged Karel side stepped the thrust and twisted adding momentum to his own swing. His axe panted nicely into the base of the bandits neck and Karel removed it with a wet crunching sound spreading gore about the bandits back. He looked at the other two left standing and said to them, "Next?"

"Karel? What a nice surprise." Emily said smiling. The bandit leader turned to her. "Who are you anyway?" Emily shrugged. "My name is unimportant." She looked around. "Looks like the odds are in our-" She broke off as an unseen sword hit her leg. The second bandit. As she looked down at it her leg gave from under her and she fell.

A second after the bandit and sliced Emilys leg he found himself facing the black oblivion of death as Nissa plunged a sword into his back. That left only one bandit left and she was sure this new person what was his name again? Oh yeah Emily had called him Karel could handle him just fine on his own. She turned her attention to Emily who's leg was bleeding pretty badly. She looked around and found Emilys bandanna and placed it over the wound putting pressure on it to try to stop the bleeding. "Always watch your back Emily, you never know when someone is going to put a knife into it. You're lucky I tripped him or you would be dead instead of hurt." She put a little more pressure on the wound knowing that it was probably killing Emily but not really caring she'd rather have Emily in pain then dead most likely everyone would blame her for Emily's death. Ranger were like that, always jumping to conclusions. She didn't look at Emily she concentrated on the wound thinking ahead to fixing it for her, she'd need needle and threat clean bandages and clean water to clean out the wound. She'd also need herbs, she wasn't great shakes as a healer but she was all Emily had unless of course she wanted to limp to the ranger of the fief and have him help her. Either way it wasn't really her call it was Emily's.
