Karel watched out of the corner of his eye the transpiring affairs of Mouse and her patron. The mans back was to him but Karel could tell roughly the mans physique. Lanky, that usually meant agile, his weight was favored to one side, probably meant he had sword or other heavier weapon, who knows what else he had. Karel noticed that Mouse almost imperceptibly shook a couple times and thought to himself, "That can't be good." Still he waited for her host to leave before turning around to place his back to the bar and face in her general direction. He didn't like this one bit, far to many unknowns. He thought about giving up completely and just leaving, but something was telling him to stay, a sixth sense if you will. His master had always told him to follow his gut when things seemed dicey and how much more dicey can you get in a situation like that and a slum bar like this...

After a minute or so Mouse pocketed the money and picked up the folded piece of paper. She sighed heavily and walked over to the bar where Karel was. She stood next to him but faced the bar leaning her elbow on it, the tender saw her. "Normal?" "Yes." she slapped a coin on the bar and he took it then got her, her drink. "You saw what transpired between us." she said, it wasn't a question so much as a statement. She nodded her thanks to the tender and took a sip. She felt extremely small standing next to him. "I suppose if you so desire we could come to some sort of arrangement." she took another drink.

"You saw what transpired between us."
"I saw, but didn't hear, too loud in hear. He unnerves you, tough client, makes one wonder why he would go to an outside source."
"I suppose if you so desire we could come to some sort of arrangement."
Karel thought about it for a few seconds and figured that this was one of two things. First it was a trap being setup to catch him with Mouse being one of the few that could possibly take him down, or second it was a way of asking for help with a job. He couldn't be sure which just yet, hopefully it was the later.
"If I'm to agree to anything I need to know what I'm getting into," he said in a hushed tone so only Mouse could hear. "Give me some details and I'll give you my answer."

She sighed and took a big drink. "Don't really care who he his as long as I get paid in the end."

She nodded. "Fair enough." now was the part she didn't really like. Admitting she didn't know something. "He wants me to steal something. Something important. but I uh..." she looked down at her drink pulled out the paper and laid it on the counter covering half of it with her hand. "Don't really know what. I can't read. And he never told me."

"He wants me to steal something. Something important. but I uh..." she looked down at her drink pulled out the paper and laid it on the counter covering half of it with her hand. "Don't really know what. I can't read. And he never told me."
A slightly bewildered look crossed Karel's face as Mouse mentioned she couldn't read. He was very surprised to learn of this fact.
Glancing under her hand covering the paper were instructions, very short and to the point. "Seacliff. Baron's signet," the paper read. Karel looked at Mouse with an almost childish grin. This was a fine mission for him, it was what he was trained to do, one could even go so far as to say he was born to do this kind of work.
Karel didn't look at Mouse but said to her in a hushed voice, "Your client wants us to procure a signet from the Baron of Seacliff." He made an almost imperceptible shudder of excitement. "I'll join you in this business endeavor. Half of what you are owed should do nicely." He turned around got the barkeepers attention and tapped his mug, mentioning for a second round. "This is a high profile theft I'll need something to live off of while I lay low after we pull this off... I am curious though why he would want a Baron's signet, but musing over such things is not a worth while pursuit unless it can lead to more money." He winked at Mouse at the mention of more money and preceded to start drinking his freshly filled mug of ale.

Mouse waited while he read the paper, wondering what it said. All she really hoped for was something quick and easy. She was feeling slightly nervous and took another gulp of her drink.
"Your client wants us to procure a signet from the Baron of Seacliff." Mouse sighed of course it had to be that. Of course.

She didn't argue. "All right half it is. You can have your half after the job is done." he'd have to fight her if he wanted his share now. He no doubt knew already that she had been paid half of her due already, but there was no way he was going to see any of that money. He could have the rest she hadn't been paid for, she as well needed something to live off of and she didn't exactly trust him not to kill her in her sleep and steal the money anyway. Although he probably thought that same of her, she shrugged mentally either way she slept with one eye open. There was just something about the her client that bothered her she HAD to know him but for the life of her she just couldn't remember. She felt unsettled and unbalanced, she hadn't felt this way in a very long time and she didn't like it.She drank the rest of the ale in her mug and finally turned to him, she of course had to look up at him seeing as he was next to her and her height was less than desirable for looking people in the eye. "We have one week to do this. I suggest we leave now." her face was emotionless betraying nothing. In her mind either he was in or he was out. She didn't care she could do this job herself it would just be easier to do it with help. Two people entering the castle was less conspicuous than one.

"All right half it is. You can have your half after the job is done."
He was okay with that arrangement. Castles are filled with all sorts of treasures, he should make sure to snag something just in case he were to be betrayed or shorted. Besides the theft alone was worth the effort, not many people could boast of stealing a high value item like a signet of a baron. If the job went off without a hitch all the better, more high profile jobs would come his way.
"We have one week to do this. I suggest we leave now." her face was emotionless betraying nothing.
"Excellent suggestion, now how are we going to get there? I didn't see your horse and I hope that there is a ferry that can take us across the water, I can swim but..." He looked her up and down trying to figure out if she could swim or not. "Either way a few details need to be hammered out before we can proceed." He pondered to himself how much a horse cost these days or if there were any decent ones to requisition, he was so used to going everywhere by foot.

Nissa shrugged. "We walk, I have a map in my pack of the kingdom we can pick the bet route as we go." she glared at him. "I can swim." she stated a little flatly. she decided that they had wasted enough time already. Without waiting for him she walked out the door and headed toward the woods where her little camp was. She needed her pack and her bow and quiver. She was already planning ahead, knowing that she needed to switch her red feathers for her more mundane brown ones. Anybody with half a brain and some authority could easily pin point her as the much wanted thief Mouse if they spotted her with the red feathers. After all they were her trade mark. She glanced back hoping to spot Karel she really didn't want to have to wait for him or go back for him. Once she reached the trees she was taking off this stupid dress, she had of course her normal pants, boots, loose shirt and leather vest on underneath the stupid thing. She never could understand why girls liked dresses so much they were a pain in the behind if you asked her.

Nissa shrugged. "We walk, I have a map in my pack, of the kingdom, we can pick the best route as we go."
He half snorted when she said they were going to walk all the way to Seacliff, mainly because the trek there would take up a lot of time which left less to break in, and even less to make it back in time for drop off.
Without waiting for him she walked out the door and headed toward the woods where her little camp was.
Karel let her go a head a few paces to give the appearance that they weren't together and then followed after her. "Walking that far would take too much time," he thought to himself. "There has to be a horse around here that I could 'borrow' for now." With this thought in mind he looked around in hopes of finding a horse, good thing they were outside a bar. Many times bar attendees would either leave their horse in front tied to a post but a few would have a half stable in the back, this establishment happened to be the latter, a good sign. "Now if there only were horses in the back," he thought hopefully. As he walked around to the back he was met by what must have been some sort of a guard placed to fend off people looking to "borrow" a horse.
"G'day," he said and tried to walk passed the guard as if one of the horses were his own.
"G'day," the guard replied and eyed Karel with suspicion.
Karel paid him no mind and went to one of the three horses. Luckily they all looked to be in good condition and fairly well kept. He walked right up to the horse like he owned it, petting it, and started placing the saddle on it. When he was all set up Karel jumped on the horses back and tried to leave.
"Whoa there! Where do ya think yer going?" the guard said a bit gruff like he had been offended.
"I was just leaving if that's alright with you," Karel snapped back.
"Ya ain't leavin' without payin' specially with that mouth," the guard retorted.
"Alright, alright. Don't get your britches in a bunch." He reached into his hidden coin pouch and tossed the guard a gold coin. "I wasn't here. Got it?"
"Yessir, now git." the not so ungrateful guard said.
She glanced back hoping to spot Karel she really didn't want to have to wait for him or go back for him.
She had just made the edge of the woods when he rounded the corner of the bar. He went towards the spot where she had entered the woods. As she turned around there he was just sitting on his new, "borrowed" horse.

Nissa sighed, a horse wonderful just what she needed. A noisy messy animal. With a slight shake of her head she grabbed the sleeve of her dress and slipped her arm through she did the same with the arm then wiggled a little bit until she was able to pull the dress up over her head revealing her shirt and pants that had been hidden underneath, that was much better. Now she could really move she folded the dress and placed it over her arm waiting for Karel to reach her. Perhaps including him hadn't of been a good idea, but what was done was done she couldn't back out now. She had to many enemies as it was she wasn't about to intentionally add to the list. She waited for him to get closer before motioning him off the road and into the forest. "This way, I live a little ways back from town." And with that she went off into the woods.

This way, I live a little ways back from town.
Karel followed after her while staying atop his requisitioned mount. When he caught up to her he said, "I figured we would need this," he patted the horse, "since we still need to case the residence, find out patrol patterns, habits of the target, location of the goods, so on and so on. I didn't think we would have enough time if we left on foot to accomplish everything. I mean since we only have a week to get this done, we are going to need all the time we can get to make this as flawless as possible." He looked to her to see her response, maybe she wasn't cut out for this kind of job. She already seemed agitated, he wondered if she didn't like horses.

She sighed heavily, of course he was right they did need a horse. She just really wished they didn't. She nodded. "True." was all she said, she edged away from the horse a little and shuddered slightly. She picked up her pace, she really didn't like horses. She supposed she was going to have to get used to it though she was stuck with it for a week, although she wasn't sure if she could psych herself out enough to actually ride it. Her shoulders slumped a little as she realized that she had absolutely no choice in the matter. It was either ride the horse or don't complete the job. Once again she shuddered as she thought about what would happen to her if she didn't do the job. She couldn't let that happen she was going to finish this job end of story. They came to her small camp, there was a fire pit and a small one man tent. Without looking at him she went into her tent. A few minutes later she came back out shouldering a pack stuffed with her things. Hanging from her hip was a quiver bristling with red feathered arrows and her bow was strapped to her back. a dagger hung from her belt, her long blond hair was braided back. Shew had a folded piece of paper in her hand. "I have a map I thought maybe we could look at it and see the fastest route."

"Sounds like a great idea, we should avoid main roads as much as we can. I do know of a few back roads we should avoid as well, a few trails as well. There are also a couple hideouts that we could rest at that I know of on the way." He paused for a second, "feel free to let known what you do so we can shore up anything missed and any other problems that could come up. You wouldn't happen to have a way to disguise yourself at all would you?" He questioned in all seriousness. If she did then that could free up the usage of a straighter path to their destination.

There are also a couple hideouts that we could rest at that I know of on the way." She nodded as he spoke her only acknowledgement that she was listening to him as she spread out the map. It was a well made and well marked map. "feel free to let known what you do so we can shore up anything missed and any other problems that could come up. You wouldn't happen to have a way to disguise yourself at all would you?" He questioned in all seriousness. If she did then that could free up the usage of a straighter path to their destination. She shrugged. "I have a few places of safety but i couldn't tell you where they were unless we were close to them." she didn't say that she couldn't read the map, nor did she want to have to admit that if she didn't have to. She had various skills and used them in her line of work to a very accomplished degree. Reading a map was not one of them and she was just fine without it. But perhaps if he could read a map he could find a new way or whatever she didn't care. If he found it useful good if not oh well. The map had obviously been a steal so either way it made no difference to her weather it was used or not. In fact she had a mind to either let him have it or try to sell it surely maps weren't easy to come by, right? She had no idea seeing as she wasn't in civilization all that much. She paused and gave him a look, it conveyed equal parts insult and annoyance. "Of course I can disguise my identity, I fooled the tavern folk just by wearing a pretty dress and having my hair down didn't I? Besides if you are going to be this insulting and questioning by abilities you can just clear out all right? I didn't get to the top 20 most wanted because they think I'm pretty."

He looked at her with the faintest glimmer of shock and surprise. "I'm glad to hear it, but I meant no insult. Fooling the tavern folk is one thing, they aren't looking for you, I mean your a bandit, not a mountebank. What I meant was can you disguise yourself from the people that ARE looking for you? And yes I am going to question your abilities, just as you should be questioning mine. If I don't know what to expect from you how can I work with you? That would be like using a fork in order to clean a deer. As for you making the top 20 I personally wouldn't be so proud, now still doing what you do and not making any wanted list. That would be something to be proud of, like me. Only the rangers and a few others in my profession know what a danger I can be, local law couldn't care less about me. Now can we get back to the matter at hand. Do you know of any other back roads or trails that I haven't pointed out?"
