They made good time on the road, and not only because they were hungry. Red glanced casually over his shoulder every once in a while, but saw no signs that anyone was following them. Not long after the sun went down, they rode into La Rivage.
From Red's perspective, La Rivage was a pretty busy town. It seemed a tad lazy, to. That gent sitting on the barrel acted like he had nothing better to do than watch people. Or certain people. Red leaned over in his saddle to check his stirrup strap, and muttered to Damien, "Keep an eye open for a reasonable-looking inn. I don't know about you, but I like to sleep clean, and not have to worry about the bed walking off in the middle of the night."

"Heh, know what you mean." said Damien. Looking around, he noticed a reasonably well looking inn. Turning to Red, and said pointing at the inn, "Hows about that one over there? It looks like it has a reasonable reputation."

"Great." Red grunted, as he fiddled with a strap on his saddle. He paused a moment, and dug a gold coin out of his pouch, handing it to Damien. "Go get a room. Make sure you include the horses. Don't tell anyone what we do for a living. Be careful." Red went back to fiddling distractedly with the saddle strap.

"Right, be back in a flash." answered Damien as he tied Equis to the front and walked in to the inn. He walked up to the check in desk, and the innkeeper, an old man, took the coin in exchange for a room. After getting the key, Damien asked, "May we use your stable?" The old man gruffly nodded. It seemed that the old man understood what Damien was saying but could only speak in his native tongue. Nodding his thanks, Damien pocketed the room key and went outside. After he untied Equis, Damien told Red as he pointed to the back of the building, "We got a room, and we can use the stable in the back."

While Damien went inside to make arrangements, Red kept up his pretense of studying the saddle straps, while he studied the man who sat on the barrel studying the other people. Some thing about the man bothered Red, but he couldn't quite place his finger on what it was.
Damien returned, saying, "We got a room, and we can use the stable in the back."
"Great." Red muttered distractedly. "Lead the way, will you?" To himself, he thought, 'Now where have I seen that man before?"

Damien nodded and led Red and the horses to the stable in the back. Finding to empty stalls, towards the back, Damien untacked Equis and put his tack outside the stall. Giving the horse some hey and water, Damien closed the stall. Turning around, he asked, "So what should we do now?"

Red followed Damien, with Hap walking alongside to guide him. They entered the barn and Red approached a stall only to come face to face with a horse. It took a few seconds to soak in, and then it occurred to him that it was Hap-- looking at him quizzically. When Hap was satisfied that he had his master's attention, he turned and literally dragged Red down the barn aisle to an empty stall.
One unsaddling and a hap-hazarded brushing later, they left the barn, and were headed for the inn, when Red gave up trying to remember where he'd seen the man before, realized that they had passed the inn, and something else finally registered in his memory. Damien had said something just before they'd left the barn.He turned and looked blankly at Damien. "Where's the inn?" Then he tilted his head to one side. "Did you ask me a question?"1.9.0.6

"Yup. To answer your question the inn is back right back there. My question was what do we do now?" said Damien as he pointed to the inn behind them.

Red soaked in Damien's answer and question, then gave some serious thought to his own answer. "You head back to the inn and get something to eat, and some rest. I haven't been giving you much of either since dis-boarding from the ship, after all. I'm going to get some traveling rations, and see what's been going on around here." he decided. "See you later." he added, turning away.

"Okay thanks. Happy shopping." said Damien as he entered the inn. As he entered the inn, he gave a short wave to the innkeeper, who in turn nodded back. After getting some food to eat, Damien went to the room. The room had two beds, a chair and a desk. "Reminds me of the good old days back in the ward. Time for sleep." said Damien to no one in particular as he took the appearance of the room in. Going over to one of the beds, Damien went onto the bed, and promptly fell asleep.

Red wandered aimlessly about the town for a while, taking stock of the situation. Nothing seemed out of place, but from experience, Red knew that could very easily NOT be the case.
Drifting on down to the quayside, he examined the ships that sat moored there, noting what ship was flying what flag, and also, what conditions they were in. He noted that a small hand-full were from Araluan. Interesting enough in its own right, he supposed, but he wanted information of a different sort.
He engaged several of the ships' captains in conversation, and learned even more was going on in his home country than he'd suspected. The king's army had gathered quicker than Red had bargained they would. In fact, there were already a few Scouts and Rangers in Gallica, searching out the best strategic position for King Duncan's army that could be had.
Red digested the news, and sorted through it as he headed back through the town. His inattention was his undoing, as he was suddenly tackled to the ground and a large, heavy object collided with the back of his head.

Damien woke up a few hours later and noticed that Red still wasn't back yet. 'Something isn't right here. Time to do some recon,' thought Damien as he left the room. Damien walked outside and decided that the first place to go was the docks.
As he arrived at the docks, he noticed that there were a few ships that bore the flag of his country. 'Well, that's odd. These ships don't look like normal merchant ships. If anything they seem to be warships. Is Araluen going to war with Gallica?' thought Damien with a perplexed look on his face. 'I guess that I'll head back to the inn and see if Red is there yet,' and on that thought, he walked back to the inn.

Red awoke to a vicious headache, along with the feeling that he was at sea. As his vision cleared, Red found that, while he wasn't at sea, he was draped across a horses' back. It was an uncomfortable position, but when Red tried to move, he discovered that his hands and feet were tied.
He sighed inwardly, and dismally wondered what Damien would be doing at the end of the week. Red held no doubts about himself-- he probably wouldn't be doing anything. Nobody does anything when they're six feet under.
A small sigh escaped him-- he was beginning to feel like a fish out of water. Somewhere in the back of his mind, he realized that his hands and feet had gone numb. These guys really knew how to tie knots. Just before his world went dark again, he remembered that he knew knots too.

As Damien entered the room and noticed that Red had still not arrived, he remembered something, 'Wait, if Red has been captured, then I have to wait a week and then find a Ranger and give them Red's letter. A man, this is such a drag.' Damien decided to create a one-man search party. 'Good thing I know how to get information out of people. Bad thing is that I don't speak Gallican. I knew that I should have studied more back in my time as a Ward. Well time to get to work.' on that thought, Damien left to get some information about Red's disappearance.

When Red came to, he was still slung across the back of a horse, but it was going a tad slower than before. His headache had receded to a dull pounding, punctuated by a sharp stab of pain every time the horse shifted its gait.
Red tried to ignore the pain while he did his best to figure out where they were. Thirty seconds later, he gave up, having learned nothing more then, one, trying to move his head made it hurt worse, and two, they were riding through a forest. He turned his thoughts to Damien, and wondered if they'd captured him too.
He started to test the ropes on his hands, but a kick to the side of his head told him that even twitching a finger would not be a good idea. When his senses had stopped reeling enough for him to see straight again, he heard voices coming from up ahead, and another from directly over his head. From the friendly tone of the voices, he deduced that they had reached their destination.
